Cool to see! Thanks for sharing the specifics of how you did this and the detailed demo.

Thanks for the video mate I lost my right leg last year and have always loved driving, I have a c leg and really want to get back into a manual car. At least now I'm confident that it won't be an issue. Cheers

Awesome video bro. Definitely helped me. I have a c-leg so I should be able to do this too. So I'm pretty excited to see this video. Now I know for sure I should be able to drive too. Thank you!

Anytime, gladness I could help. I started with a c leg. Have them program the leg while you're in your car and adjust the angle so you're comfortable.

@Evan Ruggiero it's so awesome cool that you have only one leg! I sure wish I could have my leg and/or arm amputated! would you have any suggestions for someone who wants to become an amputee?

I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2010, went through numerous chemotherapy treatments. Finished chemo in 2011. Been in remission ever since with no reoccurrences. Was fortunate to keep my leg and just have part of my knee and femur removed. Very inspiring video seeing you push through your difficulties. Hope all is well with you and you remain cancer free!

In my country, right leg amputees were supposed to use a throttle pedal inversion, usually complemented by a vacuum-actuated automatic clutch. However, due to cost, many just resort to a push-pull brake and throttle hand control while leaving the stock clutch pedal.

Just wanted you to know your video inspired me to get a manual semi truck instead of an automatic. I’m still waiting to get my first leg which will be a microprocessor leg like yours but soon as that happens I’ll get to go back to truck driving and I was so bummed out that I couldn’t drive a straight shift truck man cause the automatic semis are freaking terrible to drive. Thank you for inspiring me to get what I want cause I was gonna be miserable otherwise!

Thanks for posting this, great to see, and opens up a lot of possibilities for my next car. (Same exact situation, right AK from osteosarcoma.) One question: if for some reason you can't wear your prothesis (skin problems, whatever), is there still some way you can drive the car?

This is an awesome video bro I got one question what do you do about hills do you use the e break at all?
@JJCSM857 жыл бұрын
Hey! For hills the Subaru luckily has a hill assist where it holds itself up. But I rarely use it. I'll chill in neautral on a hill with my foot on the break then quickly clutch and get it in first and take off. I've gotten it down to a science now and have practiced a bunch. If the hill is really intense I'll use the assist in my car, that will always be the plan b. No need for the ebrake.

hey Evan my name is john i notice that you are like me missing your right leg and was hoping you can explain how you use the leg on the gas a reply would be nice thank you much!
@Lord_Pegleg6 жыл бұрын
CrippledMenace hey! Are you looking to drive stick or automatic? For stick shift I place it on the gas pedal and use it the same as I would if I still had my right leg. I’m able to feel my foot hit the pedal and from watching the tachometer (rpms) I’m able to gauge how much pressure I’m putting on the pedal. Now it’s second nature to me, so I don’t even have to think about it. For automatic, I’ll just use my leg foot for both pedals.
@CrippledMenace6 жыл бұрын
I drive an automatic but have wanted to try stick what kind of leg do you have does it free swing or lock into a specific position?
@JJCSM856 жыл бұрын
It’s locks in a specific position. I have a genium X3

How long did it take to get used to not actually being able to feel the throttle. I am a right right aka and i ride my motorcycle just fine but i relocated the rear brake to be a unified system with the front .How did you start and again what about being to feel the throttle that is what would scare me
@JJCSM857 жыл бұрын
It's interesting, I can still always "feel" the throttle. I can feel where my foot touches the pedal, when it's up against something.
@DontCallMeBoB8 жыл бұрын
Evan, Very cool brother! I went with the SMG transmission myself (m3). Did you buy this car after you got this particular knee or are you able to use any knee at this point?
@JJCSM858 жыл бұрын
Hey! I got this car before I had this particular microprocessor knee, but the leg I had prior, also had a driving mode in it. I always drove MT with one leg. It was most comfortable and in my opinion safer. Others may disagree.
@bilsob18 жыл бұрын
Hello Evan I would like to ask you a few questions, I have a C Leg on my right side and a BK left side. I would like to try to drive with my C Leg but the place I got my legs from tell me that I can't drive with it. The C Leg can also be set to lock the knee but I don't know what the best angle to have it set for. It looks like your knee is almost set to lock at 90 degrees . Thanks, Bill
@JJCSM858 жыл бұрын
Hey there! What's your question?
@bilsob18 жыл бұрын
My question is about the angle your knee locks at. It looks like in your video that your knee is close to 90 degrees, is that correct. Or is it less than that and how did you determine where to have it set? Thanks Bill
@JJCSM858 жыл бұрын
+bilsob1 hey bill! It's a little larger than 90°. Could be about 100°. The best way to do it is to sit in the car with your prosthetist and have them adjust it with you. Start out with the leg locked in a straight knee position, then have him drop it to where it's comfortable for you and your car in your seating position. A lot of cars sit differently with the pedals and the seating position, so you may have to adjust it accordingly. I did the same with my cleg as well. Check out some other amputee drivers and see what they're doing. I know Heath Calhoun is a bilateral AK who drives stick.

Thank you very much Evan for the information, I have asked other amputee people questions on You Tube and most of the time I don't get them to answer .
