Not me, but my dad. He worked at a local water park back in the 1990s. He often tells the story of a disgruntled former employee of the park who broke in after hours, poured gasoline down the tallest slide in the park, and set fire to it. The ride was subsequently replaced, but I don't remember if Dad told me if they ever caught the guy.

Someone...climbed the coaster. In the middle of a holiday weekend. Our coaster staff saw it first....that ride is their "baby." they scrambled up the sides of it in harnesses and ropes like mad monkeys, but he just went faster until he got to the top. The top that has the flags on it, that is SO HIGH UP that you can see it from miles and miles away? That one. They talked, negotiated, begged...nope. He told them to go away or he'd jump. Well, pretty soon we had every red or blue light vehicle in the district in our parking lot. Yes, we had to close down. Yes, we had to refund everyone's money. Yes, we lost a LOT of money. They took a lot of the employees to the parking lot and told them to remain until it was over. (they had to clock out, but could not go home) They kept a few of us in case he DID jump. They told me to stay, it was not my first death cleanup*. I was tempted to start filling up my bucket....pouring in bleach...but they said to wait. Five hours he drew that out. And, of course, got down and was arrested. So...the park lost money, everyone who had tickets was sad, the employees were NOT PAID for those five hours of standing in the sun in the parking lot. The coaster staff nearly lost their minds with worry. Yes, he got all the attention he wanted. Too bad they can't charge him for robbing US. No, he wasn't live-streaming on TIC TOC or we would have needed that bucket of bleach. Sorry, I'm not a therapist, I'm a janitor. (*heart attacks, overdoses.)

Idk how your employer got away with relieving you of duty by stopping your clock, but also requiring you to stay at work against your will. Even if you're not actively working, you're paid for your time if you're an hourly employee, and sitting down waiting for work to happen deserves compensation. If they don't want to pay you to do nothing, they have to let you go home and then call you back if needed. That makes me so mad to see employees get taken advantage of like that

It felt like a horror story on my end but it wasn’t so bad. My parents took me to Disney when I was like 11 and on the third day I felt awful, but I powered through bc Disney. On the shuttle bus back to the hotel I threw up. Thankfully the bus was mostly empty and I managed to not throw up on anyone. The bus stopped and another one was called, all non family people left and the bus driver had us sit upfront while she drove us to the hotel before going to get the bus cleaned. I was crying because I was embarrassed and the bus driver was so nice to me. She made me feel better knowing that she wasn’t mad at me. Years later my mom told me that she was happy to get a long break while the bus was cleaned.

The girl behind me was shouting “ooo girl you should sue!” Both of those were at Magic Mountain. One really weird thing was when me, my mom and sister were on one of those river rides where the point is to get splashed but 3 young guys on the ride with us decided to unbuckle their seat belts and run around the raft avoiding the water. They were trampling all over us and one of them SAT ON ME. Without saying a word of apology. They got yelled at over the intercom at least.

That's a very old ferris wheel if you need to do that balancing act. I'm an old carney, my uncle ran a traveling carnival and then bought the theme park on Grand Island, NY called Fantasy Island. I worked every ride, game, grounds and cleaning, operations and maintenance for everything you can possibly imagine. When we traveled, and had a smaller ferris wheel, I really did have to pay a lot of attention to how I loaded the riders. With the giant wheel at the theme park you had computer and mechanical systems to take care of all of that. It let's you know when to stop and load or unload, and if you ignore it all and somehow got way off balance, the ride just wouldn't run until you fixed it. It would stop at every single car and sound an alarm until you unloaded it and ran it again to let the next group off. Once it was completely unloaded and ran a full circuit which is seven full rotations, you can start loading passengers again.

Two kids got a heat stroke in the first 2 hours of opening. And then, a father and its very young daughter couldn’t have been more than 6 or 7, and she was very skinny and small, rode on a four people tube. The dad, who was clearly the heaviest, made the daughter flip out of the tube when he landed first in the basin at the end. She flipped out and hit face first. She came out with bloody nose. My sister and I saw her with a neck brace and the paramedics were checking for any other injury. Little girl looked terrified, but mostly DONE with all those water slides. I worked as a ticket vendor, and I did hear some stories. A ride that was a large pendulum with a rotating ring of seats (been there twice, blergh) once hit the ride operator who stupidly went to pick up a customer's flown-off shoe. I did spot a flying shoe once or twice from the extreme ride in the middle. I won't name the place, but I think the pendulum ride gives it away. My personal horror story in the park as the ticket vendor was the hot day with almost hundred-meter lines when the card machines died on us. All of them. Outside the park. Inside they worked. We had to try to holler through our little windows for people with cash to come first. Some were nice about it though, we were young (ok, I was the oldest ticket vendor, I was older than my cashier bosses!) and panicking the f out. If someone insisted on trying to use their card, our registers jammed for 10 minutes. I... have nightmares from that, an aversion to cash registers but it taught me patience with the things.

The only POSSIBLE reason we would have for turning them down were SAFETY. Safety information was posted EVERYWHERE. Still, after two beers, no rules matter..... Yes, I've cleaned up rides from...the...UH....USUAL stuff people leave on rides. Only one was THAT kind of accident, though I cleaned them off other parts of the park. Extreme heat, alcohol, spicy/greasy unfamiliar food....then amusement park rides for "agitation." Cleaning it up in that HEAT was no joke. Amusement park right off the beach. People just lose all sense of proportion when on vacation. RIP tide warnings? Fie! I PAID to come here....and there they go with their kids......the tide doesn't know or care what or who you paid. It takes swimmers DOWN. And that guy....that poops in public, in inappropriate places....yeah, we had one. It was intentional, and repeated to the point the police didn't want to be bothered. ????? So much time trying to keep angry ungrateful people from killing themselves and their families. I stayed for the people who came to have FUN, didn't want danger, just a good time. THANK YOU. It was such a rush for me to work with crowds of people from all different parts of the planet to help them find their way. LOVED It. (Nearly ALL of our "problem clients" were from the USA.)

The one about the kid with disabilites who wouldn't get off makes me both mad and sad. Sure, sometimes poor manners can be excused by a severe disability, but if the kid was able to say all of that, they were also most likely mentally capable of learning basic manners. I've seen lots of people with severe mental disabilities that were still kind and respectful. The belligerent ones like that often come from parents who coddle the kid, and think the kid shouldn't be disciplined because "oh they have *insert disability* they don't know any better! You have to be gentle with them!" If the kid is able to comprehend whats going on, infantilizing them will not only frustrate them, but can give them a massive sense of entitlement and make them think that the rules shouldn't apply to them. If I kid is capable of sending death threats, they're capable of being sat down and told thats not okay.

I worked at a “fun center” a while back, the place with arcade games, go karts, little boats that spray water at people, etc. I was outside running the go karts which pretty much is just making sure kids don’t do pit maneuvers on each other, and helping the people who spin out. This race, everything was fairly normal with like one spin out or so. Then some middle aged man who was slowly driving his kart (dangerous enough itself as kids will rear end the dude) comes around the corner with a lit cigarette in hand. He was only 10 feet or so from me so I yell at him to put it out. Yes, perfectly legal for an adult man to smoke outside. Not legal whatsoever in a fun center aimed towards kids. This man goes absolutely manic, yelling and cursing and the whole 9 yards. I’m used to it at this point so I take it and keep calmly telling him to put it out and he’s breaking the law. This man unbuckles himself and leaves his car abandoned, walking straight for me. Now I was a small 17 year old girl at the time, so I absolutely panicked and immediately radioed my manager to get out there FAST. It took a minute for my manager to come out, but this man is still screaming and getting in my face (his breath was rank) and even aggressively pushed me at one point. I was a bit in shock so I just stood there and waited for my manager, hoping to god he would be there soon. My manager at the time was a good friend and was a no-bullshit kinda guy. As soon as he saw what was going on, he sprinted towards the guy and pulls me back. He starts yelling at the guy to leave and take his family with him, and he will be banned for life, etc. This man yelled at my manager and called me names and whatnot, then finally threatened to find me and assault me if he were to get kicked out. That was the last straw for my manager (once again, good friend). He punched the guy and escorted him out of the park. I ended the race and found the rest of his family, telling them that he was outside and probably in cuffs by now (cops were called and family watched the whole ordeal). They left and I took the rest of the day off. My manager did have repercussions for punching the dude, but just got away with a write up and a secret pat on the back. I didn’t stay for much longer after that, it was probably the most scared I’ve been for my safety. As far as I know, the guy was charged with assault and some other things. I had my manager drive me home that day too.

This one boy, prolly 8-9 came around, just barely beating the height requirement. I do the usual spiel- "Please stay laying down on your way down, cross your arms over your chest..." Well, he didn't. And he smashed his head off the slide. I can't forget the noise. Kid was ok I think, I wasn't able to run down to check.

When i was about 4 my family went to Disney World. I somehow managed to get on the track of the car ride. I can still remember the look of terror on some guy's face when he saw a kid on the track. Luckily my dad grabbed me by the hood and yanked me to safety. That was a spanking i certainly earned.

my dad who is a boat captain and fisherman told me that people also get diarrhea when they get seasick because the rough water just "shakes them up like a soda can." ig rollercoasters work the same way lol

I went to a water park this summer, here in Spain, I was ready to have either my bag registered or my print taken (they were taking prints on a scanner for some reason), since it's a big park (it's Siam Park, a huge touristic attraction), but nothing, I just showed them my PDF ticket and they let me in. Same with my gf, no other kind of check.

When I was around 8 years old (back in the mid 90's), I went on a ride called "The Octopus", which was one of those that has a central pillar (the octopus' body) and each tentacle has a seat that goes up and down and spins as well. I've gone on that ride a few times before with my father, but the last time we rode it, it went faster than usual. In fact, it went so fast pretty much everyone was sick afterwards. I saw people sitting down, some puking, and my head and neck hurt quite a lot. My father went to ask and it seems the ride malfunctioned, making the whole thing go way faster than it should. I never went on that ride again after that.

45:10 Pretty sure that is incredibly illegal. I wouldn't have signed a thing, I'd have called my lawyer, and called the police to report them for illegal imprisoning / denial of basic human rights. 1:0:03 Pretty sure he's making a Jurassic Park joke. Like, his story is from th point of view of a Park employee. Not a real story.

I'm more than half way through but I remember hearing a story when a girl was scalped on the swings The ride is pretty fast and she had EXTREMELY long hair. It got caught to something and as far as I remember she lived

I worked at Storyland over the summer. I noticed that there was mold in some areas of the park especially the play ares. They dont have animals this year because there was a bear attack last summer.

Omg! Story 14! When I was 10 years old I took a trip to Kings Dominion just to ride the shockwave coaster because it was the only stand up coaster that existed at the time. Not knowing this happened, I showed up the very next day after this happened and for obvious reasons the coaster was closed. I literally cried. I don't remember if it was from a worker or another person walking around the area had told us someone died on it, and that scared the shit out of me!

From these Reddit posts, People don’t seem to understand there are ride rules for a reason. Like possible decapitations if you’re too tall or short for a particular ride. Like come on, Please respect all workers, they’re only doing their jobs.

Happened to my coworkers on a day i tended to the souvenir shop of an attraction. They rush past me, looking kind of annyoed, clearly searching for someone. I ask whats up. They're hush hush about it but tell me that an ADULT guest decided to piss in a dark corner of the attraction and then bolted out of the place.

I worked at an amusement park in Virginia when I was 17. They were awful to their workers, especially the international workers who came to work there from different countries. We all would get hurt or pass out from heat stroke and all they cared about was the fact that they would be losing their bonuses because we kept getting sick and hurt. Definitely not worth $7.25.

But then the throwing axe bounced off of the wood and landed In the guys leg right in between the two ones in the lower leg, yeah blood flying everywhere I got to call 911 but I still have nightmares about that

Was on the diablo ride at six flags basically a ride that just loops in a giant vertical circle the carts were 4 per bucket 2 on each side, our buddies started shouting at us but we couldn't make out what he was saying until we got off. The person behind us got hit in the forehead by an old man's keys falling from the top of the ride. Her whole face was bloody and it looked like a horror scene the employee gave her a rag and she wiped her face but it was immediately covered again.

My wife and i are on our honeymoon in ATL(june2007), go to six flags one day, half the rides are down, its hot as Hel, but the Batman ride was still going. We are waiting in line when we hear an alarm, and are told the ride is closed. We learned later that that week some kid lost his hat on the ride, and he jumped the fence to get it and someone foot knocked his head off. We're pretty sure it was the same day.

There is someone in this comment section that claims to have been there too that day, world is real small (I did read it was June 2008, so unless it's a yearly occurrence..)
