This is actually based on a film made in the 1950's in Japan called the "Seven Samurai". Completely different setting from this anime but both have the same plot. I was so in awe when I found this was created. So great!

This anime hit hard with that ending was so good I don't have a complaint about those who died as much as I didn't want them to die...it just had to happen with the scenarios they got put into and is why it hurt when it happened cuz you just knew "there's no way to escape it" love it ! It's very good. I always scoff at these "modern" representations of the samurai doing, literally, impossible things. The original black & white movie did a lot to show where the power of the samurai really came from. How ironic that one of the things I hate so much could tell my favorite story so well.

I guess I should have been more clear with my comment. I've gotten a few comments now about why anime shouldn't be realistic. I was complimenting the series. Usually I scoff at anime that depicts samurai doing things like slicing through trees in a single strike and such. But this series told the story of the seven samurai perfectly. I loved it.
