@@Asidebar This was from several years ago. They loved the book, but hated the movie, bc it came out a time where the "pull yourself up from your bootstraps" theory and hope for America through Trump was enraging liberals who wanted to make excuses for ne'er do well people who refuse to work or abide by the law, and use poverty as the reason. If what JD Vance accomplished in this book is true, (which it is) it destroys their narrative. And we can't have any of that, now, can we.

Watching the first four movies I had ever seen, I found myself asking, "Who is that exciting new actress? I'll have to watch for the credits." She becomes so absorbed into each role that she "becomes" that person, and it's hard to recognize her as Amy Adams. On the fourth Amy Adams movie I saw, I answered my own question, "I wonder if that's Amy Adams." In several successive movies, I recognized her every time. Then came "Hillbilly Elegy," and I completely failed to recognize her in the reviews. She did it again. Both Amy Adams and Glenn Close deserve Oscars, but they've both been overlooked.

I have discovered that if the critics like it, I probably won’t.

Most critics nobody has ever heard of...hence they are expendable...just one unknown persons opinion at best! A difficult subject matter for sure, but it represents a true experience...wonderfully produced and directed with a tremendous cast! The two lead actresses once again put in perfect, outstanding performances. This is the kind of film that used to be more appreciated by critics who knew how to understand the value of all the production elements...they seem to have vanished!

I never go by critics anymore. Rotton Tomatoes and all the rest. If the people like, I watch it.

Great movie. The critics were blinded by personal biases.
