I absolutely love how more focus been placed on their relationship in the past few years. I know some people ship them, but I personally see the two more as siblings, which would be a perfect parallel to Sonic and Tails sibling dynamic.

Knuckles and Amy as a duo were always interesting to me *because* they're not attracted to each other. Think about it, who is the biggest character of the opposite gender these two usually interact with? It's Sonic for Amy and Rouge for Knuckles, whom they are attracted to respectively. Teaming up Amy and Knuckles gives them the opportunity to think and talk about other things.

And both value security and stability. Whereas Sonic and Rouge are both defined by the value they put in freedom. They go their own way, going where the *wind* takes them, and don't want to be tied down in one place. And they both have a nonchalant, quippy attitude. I wonder, if Sonic and Rouge had an adventure together, would they get along because they both joke their way through situations while winging it, or would they start annoying each other because they both talk and quip too much?

I like the idea of knuckles having people help him on angle island but not the restoration. I think Mighty and Ray would be a perfect duo to help knuckles. Mighty is tough do not worried about him getting hurt and Ray could fly it glide? So he could keep an eye in the sky. A great way to keep angle island safe while knuckles is away. However I don’t think they have been in these comics. :(

It would be swell but Knuckles holds the place as a sacred shrine. He’s going to be very difficult in trusting others especially after Eggman’s treatment back in S3 and SNK. When all you know of the outside world are thieves and Eggman, you’ll be very paranoid and hard to trust too

And in the sonic mania + trailer we see knuckles and mighty fist bumping so I could see him more open to them helping out on Angel Island. Much more than say Rogue or Shadow. But I have no power over it, it’s just something I think would be nice. Adds a use to 2 characters that are were remembered a few years back with nothing special about them going on.

The framing of the scene where Knuckles is already halfway inside the trapdoor door also reminds me of when he popped out of the manhole in Sonic Adventure 2 after Aquatic Mine, which incidentally in another occasion where he meets up with Amy (and Tails). Probably overthinking it, but it's what that immediately made me think of.

The Knuckles Tribe indeed used to be peaceful before Pachacamac took over and started warring with other tribes in order to enrich his own. We're not given any information about these other tribes so one of them could indeed be human. There is also the matter of Angel Island's name. There is only one angel in all of Sonic canon that I know of and it ties Knuckles, his tribe and to a lesser extent the ancients to the most mysterious entity in all of Sonic canon IMO, the Statue Savior. First appearing on Little Planet's good future of Wacky Workbench stage 1, the angel has started to reappear again thanks to Amy's fortune cards. Considering the artwork on the other positive cards, (Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds) that holds some heavy implications.

I feel like the trapdoor can be explained as maybe Eggman built these for Knuckles. Think about it, its a quicker means of transportation to make it easier for him to distract Sonic during the Angel island incident in Sonic 3! I mean, unless Knuckles has Metal Forgery skills then it's prolly Eggman's doing.

It’ll also help establish a relationship as he gets what he wants as the two fight each other. A tunnel system with trap doors and hatches would be quick work for his robots to build and he can focus on studying the island unimpeded.

The trap doors and other contraptions on Angel Island might have also been built by previous Echidnas. It's not the only thing we've seen built by them on the island.

Think about it, the last time we saw Sky Sanctuary, it was full of Chao *and some Ancient technology, including a Cyberspace portal.* It's entirely possible that before they developed into the Chao, the surviving Ancients who had fled to Angel Island built some of the higher-tech devices we see around the place.

Actually, I think the pulley rings are a stealth US Knuckles' Chaotix boxart reference! As someone who's been critical of how Modern Amy was handled/written under Ian in earlier issues, I give my complements and appreciation for how she is written and characterized in this. She feels a lot more Amy to me and it does my heart good. Artist did amazing bringing it all to life too! Van't be stressed enough. I liked the little acrobatic jump visual with Amy for example. Does a lot to convey her personality. Definitely enjoyed this one a lot!

Wow, jeez yeah I don't think since Adventure 2, and arguably Sonic Advance 3 since you can pair them up, have we seen Knuckles and Amy going off each other. Even then, very little, scene I specifically recall also had Tails there with Amy in his mecha and Knuckles just pops out of a sewer. Knuckles makes a comment in the fight against Team Rose in Heroes, but it's directed at Sonic "are you playing with that girl's heart again Sonic?", cool to see these 2 duty bound, strong armed characters team up.

Very happy to see that the relationship Amy and Knuckles had in Archie is carrying over to IDW. I always thought it was lazy how they're usually just written to be mildly annoyed with one another with not much else to it. X, Boom, Generations, Rush, most of the 2000s games that featured both actually… Only 2000s game I recall where these two specifically respected each other was Chronicles. It seems that SEGA now wants to market Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles as a quartet and the way Knuckles and Amy were usually written towards each other would be a pretty big stain on that, so I welcome the less common but more natural approach.

15:43 That's something I truly miss from Flynn's initial Archie run, the game castes were allowed so much more freedom in their depiction. Archie Sonic 175 is still to this day one of my favorite issues. And Is something the Mandates in Sonic IDW won't allow to happen again. And that's truly a shame especially since the comic is starting to dip back in to the idea that Mobians and Humans do share the planet. A conflict over GUN the United Federations and the other human nations, leaving the mobians out to dry during the events of Sonic Forces and the Metal Virus Saga would be an interesting plot point, that unfortunately I don't think will be explored.

What I like about Knuckles is, there’s more to him than meets the eye. Behind his brutish, and stoic nature, lies a respectful loner that has a great passion and love for nature and history. Specifically, the history of his people, and I suppose the Chao and Ancients at this point. He does more than smash and destroy. In his downtime, and when Eggman or another threat isn’t jeopardizing the safety of the world, Knuckles wishes to preserve and protect nature and the history that intertwines it. Though this doesn’t mean he gets lonely and secretly likes visits from Rogue or Sonic every now and then. But, given his character, he still doesn’t like it when conflict is brought to his island. He’s essentially a park ranger and a historian. Only, he patrols a whole island, and it happens to be his home.

The only time they canonically interacted she said like one line out loud that was actually directed at Knuckles, then dumped a rockslide on him and left. Blaze even pointed out that they're not well acquainted in the Guardians issue.

Come to think of it... Have they ever established or shown the first time Amy met Knuckles? The Classic spin offs like R and Drift don't have much story to them, and Adventure doesn't really do much with it. They just know each other by that point. Same with Superstars. They just know each other there. I don't think we NEED something like this established or shown in a big way, but it's one of those trivial things that makes you think, y'know?

i hope no one minds i felt like sharing my little "head cannon" of a part of the Sonic universe that may only ever be a dream. Long ago, fish that had adapted to vocally communicate with each other (this is important) came across a giant crystal where while near it were able to manipulate the area around them telekenetically. Using the power of this crystal (as they were able to carry it around at will) they used it to create machines allowing them to explore outside the water. After some hundred years they figured out how to link a portal to another planet. They then made use of this planet to experiment with the magical properties of various crystals and rocks from their planet so if something goes wrong they're home planet is never in danger. After a massive explosion, red land creatures commandeered what seemed to be the crystals the fish people were experimenting with to the planet they deemed expendable. Soon after, this is where Eggman gets involved, attempts to steal the crystal you know where this is supposed to line up.
