I am glad you aren't going to paint the wood staircase. You can always paint the bottom portion of the stairs white and keep the top brown/wood grain look(where you actually step). I think you are doing a great job!

I am sure that during renovations it is hard to film videos. People like to criticize when you are doing renovations. Everyone has an opinion.and they can be harsh. I love how the cabinets being gone open up the space between your sitting room and dining room. I also have the same wardrobe that you have in your dining room. I’ve had it a few years now and really want to paint it. It’s a shiny black and just doesn’t go with the rest of my living room. I love the dark color of the stair railings. Have you ever thought about sanding the stairs down and doing two tone (wood and white) on the stairs themselves? Ours were dark too, and we did the steps all natural wood color with white backs. It dramatically changed he look and we are very happy we did it. Your house is coming along great. Love watching the transition.

Your home is so sweet and beautiful. Have you seen a picture of a staircase like yours where just the risers and spindles are painted white? The white spindles above a white wall and a whitw wall in behind would let so much brightness in the room. With all the mill work around your staircase it could be the best of both worlds.

Amy those stairs are regal!! So beautiful as they are (in great shape!!) and I can see how they would look beautiful in white. If you feel they go w/the rest of your home deco as they are or painted in white, they will look very nice either way. In my opinion you can’t go wrong here.

I realize its your home & decision but I just wanted you to take some time before doing something that couldn't be undone. Happy to hear you are leaving it . The first house I owned was in Harrison Twp. (Dayton, OH) it had the same dark staircase & door casings. I always thought it brought so much character to the old home. ....I now live in Waynesville. I know how much you like antique shopping. We’re the antique capital of the Midwest!

I love lilacs and I bought a dwarf bush. It’s now 7 feet tall by 8 feet wide. Pretty much covers one stockade fence panel. Yours will grow 6 to 8 ft. tall and wide. I can’t tell by the video if you have room where planted to accommodate the size. But they smell so good and are my favorite flower. Enjoy the day.

We have been doing little projects to add value to our home and make it our own. We took on a bigger project of painting the back of our home and replacing trim. Every step of the way, we ran into new problems and having to overcome and make new solutions. It was stressful - but it’s nice to hear someone else who admits these aren’t always quick projects!

Love everything! The flooring is beautiful. The elegant staircase with white risers 👍👍. Painting trim white👍👍. We did that but have walnut French doors, staircase railing is walnut, and we have some walnut bookcases surrounding the fireplace. The brick is creamy white with with walnut mantle. Love mixing the wood colors

So glad you are leaving the railing the dark stain it’s gorgeous! We have stained top steps and white risers which is so pretty but it’s harder to keep clean because of shoe marks with kids. Love the ceiling ideas as well. Beautiful plants! Can’t wait to see the new hutch!

I think your house looks absolutely beautiful. Your plans are so exciting and sound utterly wonderful. Totally agree about painting the trims- much brighter. Leaving the stairs dark and painting the treads of the stairs white would, as you said, break up the wood and even highlight the beautiful grain and deep colour more. But please don’t do a dark wood ceiling in your dining room 😱😱 it will make it seem so low and dark xx

Hi Amy: I'm sure you know this already, but be sure to have someone check to see if there is a header in the new opening to the dining room. If you don't have the right support, it could cause problems with sagging down the road. (Believe me, you don't want to have that issue later!) Your home looks beautiful. Definitely a lot of work!
