Linkin Park were honestly so far ahead of the curve for their entire career, always releasing projects that would have been so popular if they'd released a few years later. They got so much flack and hate for being so unique and forward thinking, but their artistic merit really should have never been in question even if the music itself didn't always appeal to some fans.

The message behind this song and this album as a whole is hinted at in the name 'A Thousand Suns'. It comes from the quote “If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendour of the mighty one," by J. Robert Oppenheimer who in turn, quoted it from the Bhagavad Gita (a Hindu religious book). Oppenheimer was part of the Manhattan Project and is known as the Father of the Atomic Bomb. He quoted this after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, mostly in awe and regret for what he had created. If I'm not wrong, the entire album is meant to reflect this - a sense of regret and despair that humanity is tearing ourselves apart, creating the tools of our own undoing.
@Rusli1659LPSoldier4 жыл бұрын
how did you know the meaning behind this?
@ElectriTiger4 жыл бұрын
Also worth mentioning that A Thousand Suns has a track called Jornada del Muerto ( Journey of the dead) which is also the name of the road that lead to the testing site for the atomic bombs during the Manhattan Project. The Catalyst has the lines "lift me up, let me go" which are also referenced in Jornada del Muerto, which lyrics are simply "mochiagete tokihanashite", which is Japanese for "lift me up, let me go". So the song named after the road leading to the atomic testing site has Japanese lyrics referencing The Catalyst. This confused the hell out of me until I realized that atomic bombs were only used in war in one place....

Knock knock. Okay Behind this track:- The song's theme is war. It was featured in the trailer for the video game "Medal of Honour" made by Electronic Arts. Bassist David "Phoenix" Farrell told USA Today, "When we were talking with EA and being familiar with the 'Medal of Honor' title I think the song made a lot of sense. The song itself has got some dark undertones and it's got a lot of energy in it. It kind of just fits with the subject matter." The line "Living under loaded gun" refers to the nuclear arsenal. The title of the album is a reference to J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, who said, "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one." Mike Shinoda explained the concept of the song's music video to MTV News, "If you could imagine when nuclear fission was invented, or a moment in time when something can be used for positive or negative. Something can be beautiful or it can be destructive."

Dude it's been my biggest bummer to never being able to see LP play live, I've been a fan of LP forever and seing somebody dicovering their universe and having the exact same thoughts on them that I've been having, it's an amazing feeling, knowing that their music touches people even now, even when they didn't know them when they were around... It makes me proud to be a fan ! So thank you for that man! Thank you for all the positivity you bring in your videos, you're actually doing Chesters job, giving hope to the ones who need it!

I highly recommend listening to the full version of this song, it carries so much more power in it. 1000 suns was a story about a future not to far off. The whole album is a journey and if you want to go on a journey, Alex. Pop that album and just let it roll.

before you react to any more ATS songs, know that ATS is a concept album that tells a story, so it's best if you react to the entire album IN ORDER, to get the full experience :) Also, please PLEASE react to Lost In The Echo, the music video is wonderful and VERY emotional

The song's off of a concept album, "A Thousand Suns", which was all about various apocalyptic fears and scenarios we face in the modern world, most especially nuclear war. It's not one of their most successful albums, but one of my absolute favourites. You have to listen to the whole album to get the throughline of the concept. Probably my favourite tracks are "When They Come for Me" and "Robot Boy", but the whole album is awesome.

Maybe you have noticed, that Amaranthe dropped their new album 3 days ago. Cause you haven't been reacting to them since their cover of Sabaton's "82nd all the way way" which you were enjoying (as far as I could see) I highly recommend them. They have great songs on the new album such as "Archangel" or "fearless" but their older stuff with songs like "The Nexus", "Helix", "GG6", "Drop dead Cynical" or "Hunger" is also definitely worth reacting to.
