As an American I gotta say I Love The German attitude . He talks clearly (better than 90% who live here), dresses nice and appropriate, super smart, loves cars and offers real world reviews and does a great job describing everything. I watched this video about two months ago just before I purchased a red 2018 Fiat 124 Spider Lusso with a 6 speed manual transmission. Pretty much the same vehicle as on this video. I found one nearly new in 2024 with only 5000 km n the odometer . Thomas, your video really helped in deciding on the Spider rather than an MX-5. You did a great job supplying lots of information and the videography was top notch. I really like the more traditional and Italian look of the Fiat 124 Spider. It drives beautifully and I enjoy the torque from this engine. Makes driving around the towns and cities pretty easy as the torque means you don’t need to shift as often as on the MX-5. The fit and finish are great. All n all I am extremely pleased with this vehicle. I look forward to a spring, summer and fall of top down cruising. Again, thanks for your video.

I have the 2020 classica. I’ve wanted one for a long time and the styling just blows Mazda away. Once they announced it was being discontinued there was no choice if I wanted one. I absolutely love it! They may have developed the perfect little sports car convertible in their work with Mazda. I’m so sad they stopped making it. I just don’t understand why they didn’t sell? It is so wonderful to drive and so much fun. Oh well. I’ve got mine now. Hopefully I’ll have it for many many years to come.

Got mine a few weeks ago. Took it out with the top down and drove it around town at 8C and sunny. Felt great! But haven't driven it since as Its still cold and snowing as I write this today. Thank you for your review and sincere comments and yes, looking forward to "enjoying summer"!!!!

For me, the best season for cruising with a convertible car is... autumn (spring in second choice) ! But, indeed... This 124 is really nice. The worst fault is that you can not adjust the steering wheel towards you. That's it just unbelievable in 2018 for this car catégorie !

Paul Wouah I drive my convertible in summer. Just wear longer sleeve shirt and a hat that covers your ears, like those Australian hats with the big brim. And the string tie so it doesn’t go flying if a wind gust hits. Sunsets are awesome as well as night time in summer.

How right you are....what a wonderful little car! The girl at 19:50 agrees with you and loves the car too! Stepping up to the tan leather doesn't cost that much more and makes for a practically premium sports car with tons of character. The Bose stereo in the Lusso version is amazing. Simplicity, performance, and a great drive! What more could a guy want? Great review and all the best! 😎

Thomas I really appreciate your thorough, honest, systematic review on this 124, and video/audio quality is outstanding. As most other reviews on this Fiat seem to portray the opinion that the Classica and Lusso fall short in comparison to the Abarth, however your realistic opinion that the Abarth isn't worth the extra money for ride quality and everyday use, really meant a lot to helping me select the correct model. As a side note, its easy to see the difference of automotive viewpoints between Europe and Canada, as you mentioned fuel economy, and emissions being important, and how 7L/100kms is unacceptable. North America can say what they want, however their buying decisions clearly indicate that this isn't important at all, fuel is cheap here, and SUV /Truck sales dominate the market with big V8's, and small car sales have simply dried up completely.

Fiat done a good enough job differentiating it from Mazda, I actually like the base car over the Abarth version when it comes to looks.. the Abarth just seems a bit too pretentious and gaudy. Please review Hyundai G70 next time Thomas. Thanks.

Great review, thanks. I own a Fiat 124 spider since early last year. Very happy with it, I even use it in winter (top up of course). Fantastic driving experience. I love the color (mine is also red) and the overall looks of the vehicle. People give nice comments when passing by. I can think of two drawbacks. First (and as was mentioned in the video), fuel consumption is high. Since this is mostly a weekend car however, I'm not doing all that many kilometers, so this is manageable. Second, the seats feel rather narrow and "pokey". I'm only 181cm so length is not a problem, but if you have wide shoulders or if you're slightly overweight, this can be an issue even you fit in the car lengthwise. More comfortable seats would, I think, extend the market for this car. Anyway, next month I'll be taking the Fiat across the Alps and into Italy. That will be fun !

I recently was given one of these as a loaner car from the Alfa Romeo/Maserati dealer in Van Nuys, California. In Bronzo Magnetico Titanium. A magnificent color. In the video I liked the way when you first started driving the wheels seemed to move in reverse. Very eye catching. A nice video to watch :)

I am from Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I just got a 2018 Red Fiat 124 Lusso with 5000 km on the odometer. I have had the car for about a month. Due to winter weather maybe more mild than Montreal but still wet and cold so haven’t been out much yet. I love the style of the Spider plus the great handling. The 1.4 turbo has lots of power for my needs plus if you need more you can quite easily modify the engine for quite a bit more power. I am looking forward to my wife and I hitting the road, top down, this spring, summer and fall. By the way these Fiat 124 Spiders aren’t very common so they attract quite a bit of attention. Way less common than a Mazda MX-5 for sure.

It's a shame that Fiat makes very few vehicles that are chic, such as the 124 Spider reviewed here and the Fiat 500. The rest, well, they pretend to be special but they don't manage to be, whilst the Tipo, well, no comment. In my view, the brand needs to be consistent through all its products in order to be appealing; Mazda has done it, why can't Fiat do the same? Anyway, excellent review, as always, from Thomas!

Thomas in my opinion the 124 spider beats the Mx5 in design. Regarding the engine pleasure of driving the Fiat leads the way albeit in reliability and consumption the Mazda is a clear winner! Fiat is also a winner for cheaper maintenance and parts. Although the 124 spider is less frugal i will choose it because of its classic and vintage appeal and production figures exclusivity (I think they will produce 20 mx5 to 1 fiat 124 spider). Excellent review. My congratulations!

Such a fast 0-100 time is useless and can't be used 90% of the time for normal people, this is much better. You can't savour the road with a straight-only car that flies off before the first corner because it has shit handling, there's no point in taking it anywhere.

Thomas, great review as always! You have style and get to the point. I was not into convertibles but this review made me considering one. I have about the same stature as you(height,weight). I see the head is getting a bit over the top (windshield, rear security arches). Because of this I am concerned about safety in case of a crash. Even during a partial roll the head would be exposed. Not to mention a lateral impact. Since you have lots of experience with cars, are these real concerns? Should I worry?

Always thought Fiat missed a trick here. The car styling falls short of what it could/should have been. Front and rear light clusters in particular are plain ugly. Promised so much, and failed to deliver. Hopefully a future version will be done right, just needs the right tweaks to nail it. Excellent review.

I have the Abarth version - it's not as smooth as a Cadillac but smoother than a jeep. Keep in mind it's a roadster.
