There's kind of an unspoken message here, even more relevant today. When you go to college go for a degree you can SELL. Activist degrees are a dime-a-dozen and if that's what you get you'll spend the rest of your life behind a counter at Starbucks. Or forget college and go to a good trade school. The world's always going to need plumbers, electricians, mechanics, carpenters, or anyone that can work with their hands and heads. And they make good money as well.

@@fds7476 You kidding? I get more “America is garbage” talk from some of my professors and classmates than I have seen from North Korea!
@fds74764 жыл бұрын
@@dfmrcv862 I'm intrigued what exactly you deem to be "'America is garbage' talk", because from personal experience, even something as innocuous as "America's not great, but pretty average" can constitute high treason in some (so-called) patriots' minds. I think the actual problem here is that most Americans don't seem to be willing to take a _nuanced, moderate_ view on America anymore. It's either the greatest thing to happen to mankind, or it's Satan's outhouse.
@dfmrcv8624 жыл бұрын
@@fds7476 Spare me the “nuance” talk, please, I tried that and it blew up in my face. Incoming rant, if you want my answer skip to the TL;DR section at the bottom. My experience with the “America is garbage” talk goes back to the 2012 election, when we had a mock election in my school. We have a relatively small “independence” movement over here and only a couple of kids in my class supported them, but not only were they relentless, they were bordeline insane: “Better vote for independence, Danny, you voting for independence yet? Who are you voting for, Danny? We need to get rid of the chains of colonization, Danny. Vote to kick Uncle Same out, Danny” and that was just the kids! I was not raised in a political home, you need to understand that, but as 2014 rolled around, things got worse and worse. My history class basically turned into what the video is parodying, with the teacher constantly getting questions about “how bad America is” and he would just feed into it: racism, overly militaristic, too many guns, too many invasions, not enough invasions (no, really), every good American president was killed (apparantly Lincoln and Kennedy were the only good presidents), America is secretly ruled by the evil, corrupt, people in Congress, and they hate Puerto Ricans with a passion (Beause Obama didnt stop to wave at people when he visited the island that one time)! I had to sit through that garbage every day for years. YEARS!!! And I love US History, but the few US History courses we took over here were only focusing on how evil America is! I have family all over the US, how exactly am I supposed to feel about them getting called evil supremacist? Worst of all, I kind of bought it. For the longest time, I had this idea that Americans were mostly good, but the government and country itself were a bit hypocritical. Guess you could call it nuanced, but the point felt reinforced by movies like “12 Years a Slave” and shows like “Late Night Tonight with John Oliver”. I think it was about the time gay marriage was fully legalized that I *really* started to get sick of the “America sucks” talk. I mean, I had SO many people at my church FREAKING out about how “the end is near” and “America has betrayed its Christian foundation!” I was just sick of hearing it. The hilarious thing is that the same people that were angry at Obama for Legalizing Gay marriage are now equally angry at Trump because “he is anti gay” apparantly. You better believe the anti America talk got worse in 2016, and even more so after Trump got elected. We have political commentators on the radio blaming our recent earthquakes on HIM for crying out loud! Oh, but the worst, the absolute *WORST* thing I have seen come from people over here was right after the hurricane hit. So many mayors, politicians, teachers, and journalists were complaining about how “WHY HAVENT THE AMERICANS SENT MORE AID???? PEOPLE ARE DYING!!!” Not only had the US sent us the aid, but the same people complaining about it HID IT AWAY AND THEN BLAMED IT ON THE US!!!! Oh, we had footage of people finding FEMA packages in the dumpster after someone mysteriously left it there since 2017, but did anyone in the media talk about it? Nope! US based media outlets were too busy siging with our politicians to dare suggest they did anything wrong. Even after an entire warehouse full of supplies was discovered, we STILL have people saying that “I bet Trump ordered our mayors to hide the aid so that when he came by HE could give it for PR purposes, but then he forgot or something...” So yeah... maybe nobody looks at the moderate side of things, but there is NOTHING moderate about the way these people here are taling about America, and from the looks of it, this video is pretty accurate to how they think. *TL;DR-* Over here, the people who complain about the US in schools have exactly two points: 1- America has done some very bad things, and 2- America has some serious problems to this day. The problem is that its ALL they talk about, and eventually it will either make you hate the US or push you to love it just because you cant stand the people preaching this hate. There is no moderation here.

@@dfmrcv862 I don't mean to sound patronising, but try to make up your own mind then. Just because _other_ people reject nuance doesn't mean that you have to. The opinions of those who are able to see both sides pf a coin are always going to be superior to those who can't. In that vein, criticism can be grating, but look at it like this: in order to reject it, you first have to hear it.

If you tried to tell me back in 2007 that the first black present would snowball into democrat indoctrination taking complete control of college, the formation of domestic terrorist groups like BLM and ANTIFA forming, and the democrats wanting control of government from an orange president so bad they set in motion plans to release a contagious virus to shift positive public opinion back into their corner, well I may have believed it but wouldn’t have thought things could get so crazy so fast.
