Coming back to this as an adult, it hits so much harder than it did for me as a kid. There was something so special in the wordless subtlety behind Fievel flipping his cowboy hat back to his original one. It was such a great way of showing, not telling, that he could be a hero by being himself, rather than emulating someone else. With the added context that this was Jimmy (James) Stewart's last ever movie, the lines he delivers hit even damn harder. I am unafraid to say that this ending makes me need to have a good contemplative cry.

Couple of years ago I was in the US Army serving out of Fort Hood about one hour north of Austin TX. As my time in service came to a close and I left for the last time I took one last look at the place I called home for two years, and I swear I could hear this music in my head. It was hilariously appropriate considering the sun was about to set as I took off for the last time. Felt like some sort of cowboy riding off into the sunset with this rocking in my brain. Sure made leaving and the drive home a memorable one.

Such a poignant lesson he gives. Fievel says he's not a hero like him, yet in a way he was Wylie's hero for believing in him when he didn't believe in himself. Fievel also believed in Tiger. As a result, both "dogs" saved "the old west". All because Fievel pushed them to be the best they could be. Even after all that, Fievel still refuses that notion that he's hero. That's what real heros do.

And if your looking for a hero, look in a mirror, because you been there all along.

0:44 This sums up the cycle of legendary actors like Jimmy himself. Those who had a wonderful life inspire and indirectly help create more. It's gotten stronger In recent years. We've lost Alan Rickman, Robin Williams, Christopher Lee, and many others. But while we still have more legends to look up to like Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, and others, others take the place of those who have gone. It's a cycle that reminds us that we're never truly alone. There's always a spark of inspiration and hope that cycles through life in many categories. Not just celebrity actors and other idols, but family, and many others.

Since he trained under a parody of Wyatt Earp, he eventually invests in a gold-tipped black cane and derby hat, and goes out hunting outlaws and promoting boxers under the alias "Rat Masterson" (rodent version of "Bat Masterson"). As for Tiger, he keeps his canine self that Wylie put in him, and since he too was trained by a parody of Wyatt Earp, he hunts outlaws alongside Fievel under the alias "Dog Howliday" (canine version of "Doc Holliday"). Together, they form posses in pursuit of the most notorious outlaws of the west. Including the likes of Butch Catsidy and The Sundance Kitty. How's THAT for a new installment to this series, people?
