Jody I think you need to re-read the instructions for your diamond tester. You have to hold the head perpendicular to the watch, you have to hold the watch's case in your other hand, you have to let it warm up for two minutes, you have to use the dial to put two green bars on the display if you're using it at room temperature, and you have to make sure your first two fingers are solidly touching the metal pad at the bottom of the device. I've got 3 Parnis watches and using my tester correctly they all go red on the tester and it beeps.

I bought their Daytona homage a year ago on a whim. Now I have a GMT and Explorer from them. My experience is that they're crazy good. The DG movements are miyota based, my explorer needed a bit of regulation, which brings me to water resistance....when you put them back together grease the case back groove, the seal, and crown seal, and I've had no issues. Now that's just shower, pool with the kids, water park etc., but no issues for me. The Daytona does not go in the water, pesky pushers, but for the money my parnis's (😵) are really, really good.

Thank you for fulfilling my wish for a GMT watch review! While I was waiting for this review, I pulled the trigger and bought a Bliger GMT with white dial and Batman bezel and 42mm case. I too found the watch’s crown adjustment a dicey proposition and a huge pain to set after it wound down while I was wearing another watch. Another glitch that found was that it can’t just be shaken a few times and then worn, like my other automatics. It has to have a good hand wind first or the watch will stop, even when worn. Once it’s wound, it seems to do just fine staying wound when worn. Despite the odd personality of the watch, it keeps great time is and is a super value.

Hi Jody, love to see you got a timegrapher, but please don't let it substitute for WatchCheck, it is the true measure of consistent day-to-day accuracy of the watches you review. I learned about it watching your channel and I hope other enthusiasts do too. Also, if you put a watch on the timegrapher show it at least vertical as well as horizontal, there's a clear difference in positional accuracy between cheaper and better movements. A cheap watch can do fine dial up by luck, but move it around and you will see the difference.

I have been researching Parnis and they are a legitimate company in China, the watches from Parnis themselves are a wee bit more money, but have a Guarantee with them, and are well made and water resistant, but they sell in bulk to anyone, and fir way less, but here is the thing! On ebay sellers buy ones with a non lubricated movement, and not really water resistant to any great depth, but from Parnis itself you get a lubricated Mingzo, or Seagul movement, which are really good movements widely used. It has this on the Parnis website.

I ordered one from a Chinese seller who has a variety of different case and GMT hand options on matching (but really cheap) NATO style straps. I opted for the black PVC case and orange GMT hand. I put a black bracelet on it which I had - looking good. I put an orange rubber strap with quick release on - looking good. I now ordered a nicer black rubber with orange stitching, and a black leather strap too. One of these will be my final choice. About the watch: almost zero beat error in many orientations, average deviation after one week in various positions is +5 to +7 s/d. Pretty awesome. Winding direction (anticlockwise) can be easily detected by the faint clicky noise the rotor makes when winding the spring instead of spinning freely. Winds on slightest movement - excellent. Haven't detected the GMT hand gaining unwanted offset as some people report on theirs (probably knock-offs, yes, even that exists). Line doesn't last long, but I knew that before I ordered. At least it's not unevenly distributed as on Tevise T801A watches, and the like on the hands is as good as on the index markers. Nice thingy. Recommended.
@furzkram5 жыл бұрын
*Lume, not line. Some facts I forgot to mention: Rotor noise is hard to hear on mine, only when I put it near to my ear. Bezel action precise, no backplay. Cyclops about 2.5x with good legibility, a little too far to towards the crown in my case, but can be tolerated. Be a bit careful with the crown, that will make it last longer. Crown mechanisms are very delicate, even on 4-5 digit dollar watches. Keep that in mind. You get an affordable but NOT a cheap watch. Although I have plenty of others, I love this shiny little thingy which always keeps me update on my US friend's time.

I have two Parnis. The first one is a Panerai Radiomir 1940 homage, with a Seiko Meca-Quartz movement. The second is a WWII German flieger homage, with a mechanical Seagull movement I think. I think they are both really good. So I'm not really impressed with your test, I was kinda expecting this. Of course you have some cons, but for the price, you can really forget them... Oh, by the way, I just received my Skmei 1456, which is a Casio steel G-Shock homage. 15€ and a lot of features, truly amazing. As you like Casios and Chinese specials, you should give it a try !

Please don't call these homages. These are replicas, with a Parnis logo. A homage is a watch that takes inspiration from a certain watch, but is still distinctly its own. A Tudor BB58 can be considered a homage. The new B&R BR-05 can be considered a homage. A Parnis that is one badge swap away from looking exactly like the original from afar, is not a homage, it's a copy.

Great review. I was very curious about the water resistant too on the Parnis. I emailed them my question and they came back with this:Dear Mr. Todd, Thank you for your email. Most of our watches are water-resistant up to 100m and come indeed with a screw-down crown. Unfortunately, some clients swim/dive with our watches and forget to screw down the crown. (This causes water to infiltrate the case, as it would on any watch). When the crown is not properly tightly screwed down, the water-resistance of the watch is void. Unfortunately, there is no way to prove if the crown was or wasn’t properly screwed down. For this reason, we simply advertise all our watches as water-resistant, and we don’t cover water damages under the 2-year warranty. Although most clients report swimming with the watches, especially the GMT / Sub collections, for legal reasons we don’t advertise it, as we don’t provide a warranty on water damages. Hope this was helpful :) Best regards, David Wong Technical Support PARNIS WATCH CO. ®So I the reason they don't put the ATM is because they don't want to liable for people forgetting to lock down stem and paying out a bunch of warranties. Make since. It's a little lawyer mumbo jumbo.

Full disclosure I did have one that would stop running for no reason, I sent it back to parnis and they replaced the movement and since repair it is working perfectly. prepared did take about two months but it was during Christmas and Chinese New year so that may not be a normal turnaround. All in all very happy with the look and I find it wears bigger then the dimensions as the bezel is a bit slimmer than in the pictures.

I've owned a Rolex GMT Master II since 2005; it's simply become too expensive to wear in every situation. - So I purchased three of these (one for myself & 2 as gifts). All three were in the "Sterile" dial versions (no "Parnis" name printed anywhere) and with the Blue/Black ceramic bezel (dead ringers for a "Batman" !). As the only 'mod', I installed real nice Black with Blue stripe NATO watch straps. These are also great "Test-Drives" for the real thing (to see if you like the look & dimensions etc.). Talk about impressive looking & performing watch bargains !

I got mine from mywatchcode. I am very pleased with their service. Had my Parnis Pepsi GMT for a month now and it hasn't left my wrist. Helluva lot of bang for the buck. Also - I agree with everything you've stated on this video - I just want to add that the rotor is as loud as a jet engine. You will (and others might) be able to notice it throughout the day. However, I have gotten used to it. Also, setting the GMT hand (I've found) can be finnicky - sometimes it jumps a "minute's worth" backwards or forwards - so setting it to be exact might take a few tries. I am also quite sure (judging by the way the light plays on it) that my pepsi's bezel is aluminium, and not ceramic, but I am fine with that. It was a conscious decision on my part. Lastly, I don't know about the oyster style bracelet, but the jubilee comes with the diver's quick adjust inner clasp which allows an additional 5mm length. Regards!

I also got one on WatchCode and it keeps better time that this one. About 4 to 6 secs I love the finish, the ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal (Mirror if your strange) I don't like or trust Ali so I don't use them. Id recommend this all day, even over my favorite Invictas. Oh, my rotor is just fine. Maybe I am going deaf. The clasp seems like a try at Rolex but is VERY thick and fails but, it works and so far is dependable. I WISH I could say the same for the Alpha. It keeps time but stops there.

Just dropped the princely sum of $66 on a pilot style Parnis. I'm excited because its my first mechanical automatic! It has an exhibition back and what looks from the ebay listing to be an unbranded movement with an attractive golden hue and one purple gear(!?) I have to wait a couple of weeks for delivery - I hope I won't be disappointed. Judging from this video it should be ok for the money...(?) Think it might have a DG-2813 movement. Perhaps if I can figure out which movement it is I can swap out the dial/hands/case if I get bored. Or the movement if it goes kaput.
@darrelwillman31584 жыл бұрын
Late to the party, but I love mine. It's not strictly a Parnis, as it has the sterile (white) dial and white ceramic bezel. It also has the newer Rolex style (superbly reproduced) machined strap with on-the-fly micro-adjust. The fit and finish are of a much more expensive piece, and it is dead-on for accuracy. Can't recommend enough.

I’ve got a Parnis Daytona 5 (black face and black ceramic bezel) and it’s my favorite watch. Incidentally, Parnis.org is merely just one of many Parnis sellers and not any sort of official site or company in spite of what they say. You can get identical Parnis watches for half the Parnis.org site price on eBay or AliExpress. I buy mine from an eBay seller and just ordered the Explorer homage. The band is very comfortable and the wide clasp helps keep the watch from shifting around.

I'm glad to see you getting around to reviewing a watch from the Parnis brand. I don't own any, but my fleiger style pilot watch is from their Chinese cousin Fanmis (seriously) these two and a couple of others named Corgeut and Debert, all make very similar if not identical watches. My belief is that, they are all made in one giant Chinese factory, right next to the Soylent Green. It's sometimes confusing and it can be difficult to get reliable info on these brands. Things like; is the sapphire real? (as you brought up), can you trust the WR rating? (it's very debatable). What movement is actually in your watch (some advertise a Miyota). All in all, after a lot of looking (at Corgeut especially) I threw my hands up and decided not to jump any further into a murky pool. But you are correct. The looks are well above the price you will pay and the movements are generally reported to be reliable. And if you don't plan on diving or swimming with it, you can get a nice piece. Better than a fashion watch, but not quite a proper tool watch. Great video, I feel a little disappointed that you weren't drinking from a JOMW coffee mug. Am I the only one actually using his?

Parnis and Corgeut make some really nice watches for the money. They are not great, but they are such bargains, that even if it only holds up for a handful of years, you still get enough value out of them. Servicing them can be pretty hit or miss. They both tend to have movements that are based on miyota 82xx, but tend to add hacking, which is a nice touch.

Neither feel nor hear it wind. It keeps very good time. It looks great. It is comfortable. It has been a very reliable runner. And as subscriber "World Bodybuilding Archive" notes below, it ticks all the box and what the heck else could you possibly want at this price point???? The only niggle I have with it really is the very thick clasp that sticks out too much. But the flaws are indeed niggles. Minor really. One hell of a bargain in my book!

The problem with anything made in China is there are usually 4x factories in 4x different regions making the same product and some are better than others. For example car GPS devices, you get ones that look the exact same but you see one $20 cheaper than the other so you buy the cheap one then you realise the mobile phone commands to use it are 16 digit long numbers with the odd hash inserted that you can't remember without having the instruction book to hand where the one $20 dearer works with easy commands "start" and "stop" etc and would have been the better purchase. Apparently it's the exact same scenario with Parnis watches, the official Parnis site lists watches with price points $40 ish more expensive than Aliexpress and Aliexpress has the watches from various sellers with $10-$15 ish price differences but they are all made in different factories in different regions and some are better than others which is why some people are reporting buying lemons and others are not. Usually if you steer clear of buying the absolute cheapest on offer you are OK.

Great review ..I really like the look of the parnis & paganis especially with the sapphire glass and ceramic bezel and screw pins ,but don't trust the movement. For that reason I just bought ( arrived today) an Invicta pro diver Got the bigger 42mm model 29178 was reduced to £66 on Amazon. This watch looks pretty amazing with the stainless jubilee bracelet. The movement is Nh35A Seiko 24 jewels and there is a exhibition glass to show it off. Looks similar to yours with a black face. Also says water resistant to 200 meters. Unfortunately no saphire glass just hardlex and bezel is alloy I think. Looks great though. Very pleased so far.

As the owner of several Parnis subs, I would urge everyone to purchase through the official website. They state that they supply their watches as factory spec originals, and as kit watches to 3rd party suppliers. Having purchased from both platforms, I would implore any potential buyer to stump up the extra few dollars and buy the factory spec watch!

Hey Jodie, glad to see that you finally got around to picking up a Parnis. I would love to see you dig into their Fleiger offerings!

I wish you would do more used stuff. I never buy new and get great deals. Example: I recently bought a Citizen Nighthawk eco- drive blacked out for $40. Also bought 4 vintage Timex, all hand wind for $1 each. Bang for buck, that's hard to beat.

I have found the Citzens to be the highest quality watches I’ve owned.

Why is the 2nd hand jumping about 3 sec at 14:15 and after? It’s acting like a quartz with a low battery. Weird.

Hey Jodi, saw in the "official" website they claim Miyota 9015 movements on certain GMT and Subby homages. Thanks for the review!

These are excellent. I have a "coke" version and it looks even nicer. I don't think there is any issue with the sapphire crystal. The diamond selector gives slightly different readings for most of my watches, chinese or not. Also, from what people are reporting, the water resistance is in practice a lot better than what is stated. Parnis does this because they don't really properly test them for better water resistance. I go swimming with mine with no issues. The clasp is indeed not great and lume is terrible but it's still a fantastic value. I'd like to see you do a review of the Parnis Daytona, white dial. One of my favorite watches and I would say a level above in quality too.

About sapphire glass test, from what I know this tester measure conducting of the material being tested, so if sapphire has AR coating that is mainly based on thin layer of metals then reading would be incorrect or to high so for untreated sapphire without AR coating reading would be lower. Next thing is interface material between sapphire and steel body of the watch and it resistance.

Been waiting for your take on the Parnis gmt. Love your review style, Jody. After collecting some more expensive watches (Seikos etc., but not Rolex category), I'm now 'just' discovering the joys of affordable homages like this one. I don't think I'll ever pay for Rolex, Tag Heuer or Bremont types... And forget the coffee.. Please just talk & talk & talk about one more watch - and that's what we want 😀

Hola Amigo. Me again as a mr. Suggestion (; Today arrived my new chinese special - Parnis Daytona with a Seiko hybrid movement. What a great watch. Quality, size, really nice bracelet. I'm more than amazed with the piece. All for less than 80 $. It's not great just because it's good and not expensive aliexpress watch it's a fantastic piece in general. And the most comfortable watch in my collection. More than any Swiss or Japanese made one. That Parnis is a "no go" in my collection. Highly recommended. All the best. Em

Great review, Ive got the Batman GMT on jubilee bracelet, bloody amazing for the money, your criticism is correct...but,.. great for the money! And mine also has incredible accuracy, in fact the most accurate of my collection(-2 a day, if that). Third Parnis for me (Radiomir homage and Day Date homage ) both excellent (at the price point) . Couldn't recommend enough, if your not a watch snob that is!

Mine has just arrived. I really just bought it to prove to myself that it's too small and I shouldn't obsess about getting a Rolex. How wrong was I? It's so comfortable and I keep looking at it and smiling.

I have the Parnis “Batman” GMT and I have to say that it’s a pretty decent watch. I’m not too crazy about the clasp. In fact, mine broke on day 2 of ownership. The watch landed on concrete and I thought that was it. Not the case, there was a minor scuff on the flank and it was still running. I put it on a leather strap and all is good. I have to say that it’s more accurate than my Seikos.

Good review, as a former Parnis owner (Big Pilot, GMT, Portugese etc) you definitely point out all pros and cons. It is as you said, the first glance is amazing and thats why actually sold all my Parnis watches after a while. I think you learn a lot about watches if you use Parnis than you move on and switch to Swiss brands.

Dear Jodie. I have exactly the same watch you rewieved and I have to say its defenetely sapphire Cristal. I nearly wear it 24›7 and I work in tradings. the bracelet has got a lot of minor and bigger scratches but not even a tiny one on the glass or on the bezel. I've got few watches but this is my favorite one.

Somewhere on you tube there is a guy who tests these to destruction ,drops them in a bucket of water for a day or two then puts them in a deepfreezer overnight drops them off a bridge and they still work the final test usually kills them off he drives a lorry front wheel over it and leaves the wheel on it and then turns the steering wheel and grinds it into the ground
