Great tip !! I never see you using the red dial on the Neve plugins (the ones that causes saturation). This is not meant negative !!! But is there a reason why ? Is it true that you can do the same trick with a pultec (rolling off low end and boosting low end to generate a resonant filter) ???

I'm not sure whether you covered this in another video, but I'd like to know whether it pays to use static EQ at all when I can use dynamic instead? Should I throw away my Fab ProQ2 and just use Waves F6, Neutron or Ozone Dynamic EQ instead? That is, when would you still use static EQ? I'm thinking that there are some color EQs like the Pultec, or the Neve 1073 that can add some sweetness (esp on group busses and the 2Buss). Would you agree? Would you say that Dynamic EQ is more useful for subtractive EQing, and the vintage EQs better for additive? Thank you for your help.

Ricky Molina Hey Ricky. Never throw away an awesome plugin like the ProQ2, haha. Way too good to forego. Re dynamic EQ, it all depends. It’s kind of a different beast. I look at dynamic EQ as being very similar to multiband compression in which you can suppress certain frequencies to enhance others and then you can use upward compression to enhance too. I like using vintage analog style EQ’s for this technique because A) we don’t know what the curves look like and B) the added modeling of the transformers and circuitry adds different colors. There’s no correct answer to your question. It’s really “use whatever you like and whatever gives you the results you’re looking for”. So much of mixing is subjective. What works for me might not work for you. All I can do is share what I know works for me. Hope that helps 🤙🏻😊

The reason I raise the issue of Dynamic EQs is that I saw a few videos with Dave Darlington and Tony Maserati (both Waves guys as you know), as well as a few others such as MixTv kzbin.info/www/bejne/b52UZoaam7Jph6M&frags=pl%2Cwn who appear to be integrating Dynamic EQ into their game plan. I was esp impressed by Maserati's video on lead vocals where he's using multi band compression (Waves C4). The message I'm getting from Maserati is that he's no longer a static EQ guy. With the advent of Dynamic EQs from Waves and Izotope I think you could even say that you can get even more accurate and more transparent results with Dynamic EQs than with MB Compression. It seemed as though Maserati was sayin' that static EQ is a thing of the past. That's a pretty powerful message.

Ricky Molina Right on. All sounds fine and fun. As always, if it’s something you like in regards to the results it gives you, I say go for it! 😊 I just personally haven’t spent enough time w Dynamic EQ’s to make a bold statement like that. But Tony IS a pretty eccentric cat... he’s also trying to sell plugins 😉😉😉 Botton line, if you get better EQ results with a dynamic EQ, I say use it. Now I have an excuse to pick up the Sonnox Dynamic EQ 😛

Excellent tip! Is there a reason for boosting on the bus rather than on the kicks themselves?

Hákon Nope. You can do it wherever you want. I was just showing an example of how it affects the bottom end and quickly (under 5 min) 🤙🏻😊

This is similar to what a Pultec EQ does if you boost and cut at same frequency in the low end correct?

bob Interesting. Thank you for the details. I imagined there must be differences in the physics of how the two techniques are achieved. 'Similar' is a forgiving word though, in that it isn't as strict as 'identical'. That said the feel of it to me is definitely reminiscent of the effect of PT EQ on the Kick and Bass showdown.

Jamie Bonsall It’s similar, Jamie, but it’s not quite the same because there’s no filter on a Pultec EQP1A. Furthermore I believe both the bands on the pultec are bells and not shelves. Pultec did make a shelving unit but they are rare and not what the plugins emulate. I’d say the RESULT from the Pultec is in the same ballpark, yet still a bit different in a good way 🤙🏻

how is it in comparison with a resonating hipass? (works well with kick)
@marekvoosen

Too bad, I’d like to hear the Pro-Q in comparison. My experience shows me you can get a more punchy and less flabby sound with an parametric eq against the cool looking emulations.
@MixBetterNowTV
@MixBetterNowTV 6 жыл бұрын
Marek Voosen You can. The point of these vids is to keep em super short. I don’t think a parametric is necessarily BETTER than an analog EQ, theyre just different beasts for different tasks. 😊
