Great info!!!! I also would recommend perfecting the flop shot on grass and simply take that technique into the sand. I was taught that way at age 10 and at 65 actually look forward to a sand shot.

Another great video Chris. On most of the courses I've played on lately if the ball end up in a bunker we take the ball out and place at the face of it. Due to the amount of crap and stones sorry the boulders in there.

That’s often the case, bunkers can be very poor at certain courses, seen too many clubs damaged from poor bunkers

Chris, question: at set up you hover the club head quite close to the ball. but you hit the sand perhaps 2 inches or so behind the ball. What are your swing thoughts regarding WHERE you hit the sand? You discussed the club head speed necessary to get the sand out of the bunker, but what about the AMOUNT of sand you need to take? That's the inconsistent part of my bunker play. Thanks, mate. I appreciate the simplicity of this technique.

Looks good , sounds good . Will give it a try but as you mentioned the sand in that bunker was “good” . It would be nice to see a lesson/instruction from a “naffish” bunker like you find on municipal’s for instance , not all muni’s but you know what I mean

Seconded. Also, what to do on more buried shots. I guess you open the clubface not as much so the leading edge can dig into the ground (which you normally want to avoid)?

All fair and well when you get bunkers with soft sand. Unfortunately most of the courses i get to play don't have soft sand. Most are hard and club bounces and thins the ball and you end up playing again from bunker or 50 yards ovwr green on opposite side. How do you get out of these bunkers?

How would you play it if the trap is almost as hard as cement I was in a trap like that this morning the club just bounced off and sculled the ball I wasn't even making foot prints in the trap that's how hard the sand was

Hey Colin, yeah I’d play it the same with a poor lie, just means I would have to be a little more precise with my entry point, divot depth etc, but I wouldn’t change my technique at all 👍

been practicing Bunker a lot of late, today, the first 18 Balls were kind of bad, didn't quite get to the green (but the green was about 12m Away) and I shanked a couple too, the next set of 18 Balls (rounf 2) absolutlely perfect all up by the pin (about 15m away) ok, shanked a couple still) 3rd round, complete shyte, don't know why, and this is where you need someone by your side to tell you whats going on or what's not going on. I'll keep plugging away until I nail this shot from the sand. (11,3 handicapper ... which means nothing really)

@@ChrisRyanGolf I guess more for amateurs but a rule of thumb for club selection when chipping. Where the distance to the landing area onto the green is estimated for example at 3yds, then the remaining roll to the hole is 9yds. You would figure how many segments of the original dist to landing area divide into the rollout and subtract from 12 to get the club. So 12-3= 9 iron. Sounds complicated but ive heard it is fairly accurate. Was wondering if you've heard of this or had any faith in such a thing. Thanks for asking.

My club goes under the ball and doesn't leave the bunker. I swing extremely hard and I open the club face with a full swing.

The main problem I have with bunker shots is fear. I'm just afraid to hit it. Of course that is my problem with a lot of shots.

Probably be the case for many, has to begin in practice, if you start to see the ball coming out each time the confidence grows and the fear goes away, can take time though 👍
