An Entire Video About Adventure Mode from Smash Bros. Melee

Do you remember the Adventure Mode from Smash Bros. Melee?
Most people associate Melee with its competitive scene, but very few people talk about its single-player offerings. Between Classic Mode, Event Mode, Target Smash and of course Adventure Mode, this Smash's GameCube entry had a surprising amount to offer in that department! Adventure mode wasn't as grand as the Subspace Emissary from Smash Bros. Brawl or as massive as World of Light from Smash Ultimate, so people don't often talk about it these days, so hey - let's fix that.

Adventure was such a strange, delightful little mode in Melee. It felt like Classic, but with a few stages shuffled in for good measure, and I played the heck out of it! 😂🎉

It provided _just_ enough context to give you an idea of what was happening, but still left a lot to the imagination. They definitely struck a good balance with it!

The platforming also felt right. Brawl's physics made Subspace Emissary feel sloppy in a few places.

I remember the Zelda stage freaked me out as a kid. First couple times playing this as a kid, i was always dreading having to go through it. The Pokemon stage was my favorite, the more chaos the better. The introduction of moving stages like the Ice Climbers was also a great addition! You should make a ranking of all smash modes, worst to best. There's a few modes i think is missing in Ultimate, that'd be cool to see brought back if they ever make a new game.

I played this mode TONS and wasted soooo much time just looking around levels, toying with the CPU players and tryna figure out how exactly any of the other special events were triggered, while looking for trophies and hopefully earning coins for the trophy machine, so I probably rarely beat the game under 18 mins. Even if I did, 99% of the time I played on very easy for some reason. Because of all that, I never till now knew about the possible giga bowser fight at the end, and thought he was only seen in like 1 challenge mode thing. Tyvm, great vid!

I definitely spent the majority of my time playing on Very Easy mode as a kid as well, so when I first beat Classic Mode on Normal difficulty, my mind was blown when Crazy Hand appeared out of nowhere. Then I rushed over to Adventure Mode to try the same thing and Giga Bowser showed up!

The first character I defeated Giga Bowser in Adventure Mode with in Smash Melee was Marth, who is my main in Melee.

Honestly, what I miss most about Smash Melee and Brawl was their single-player content. It's really lacking in Ultimate.

While Subspace is the best adventure mode, I replayed Melee's adventure mode SO much. It was my favourite thing to do in the game! I'd love to see it return as an alternative to classic mode, another reasonably short and highly replayable mode with lots of unique things that can be triggered if you play right! I'd also love if they did more levels and end them with a fight rather than loading into a fight afterwards, just to make it feel more unique to classic mode

When I was little and growing up, I always felt something fishy going on after defeating Bowser. My instincts were right. Giga Bowser jumps in!

I love this mode, but I also have a list of nitpicks and missed opportunities for it: When I fight Mario and Peach, I wish there was a CPU setting that specifically stops them from doing team combos. It only seems to be a problem on this stage for some reason. What if Young Link could appear instead of Link in the Underground Maze? And where is Ganondorf? They would appear only if they were unlocked, of course. Zelda plays in a way that works in the most annoying way possible. She spams attacks, grabs the instant you put up your shield, and might run across the entire stage to grab an item that you can't even see. Also, a level 8 CPU in Normal Mode?! Why couldn't the player go to the Fountain of Dreams for the Kirby horde battle? It has a better layout for this sort of thing. A change of scenery would also make the stage more interesting. During the first battle against Fox, he wastes your time by running across the entire stage to avoid you. That's just unnecessary. Missed opportunity for Mewtwo to appear in stage 7 if you complete it quickly enough. Maybe this could also be how you unlock the character instead of playing Vs. mode for 20 hours. Why does the fight against the Wire Frames have low gravity? It's just awkward. It also doesn't make sense because the next fight is on the same stage in normal gravity. Why is there a time limit for Giga Bowser appearing? What if he always appears as long as you haven't used any continues and doesn't reappear if you lose to him? I don't want to have to replay because I wanted to fight Giga Bowser but ended up fighting all of the Links before reaching the Triforce, or one of my opponents just kept stalling, or I happen to be playing as someone with below-average KO power. It gets really annoying when you're trying to beat Giga Bowser with every character like I am now.

They could have just brought this back in Ultimate and just updated it change up a few of the fights and add Co-op to the mode and it would have been perfected also if they ever do something like Subspace again it should make sense if some enemies fought eachother and so NPC where mid-bosses in the adventure mode if Hammer Bro could be both an enemy and assisst why not all Assisst and Pokeball be upgrade to be enemies to just make some of them like multiman no special moves

Unpopular opinion, but Melee's Adventure Mode is my favourite in the series. Don't get me wrong, Subspace Emissary was a brilliant idea and the cutscenes were genuinely amazing, but it was let down by the awful level design in the platforming stages. If the level design was better, it would definitely take the cake as the best Adventure Mode. World of Light wasn't even an Adventure Mode really. It was essentially a glorified Event Mode with a map, a few RPG elements, and 4 admittedly gorgeous CGI cutscenes.
