as someone whos struggled with suicidal thoughts and depression, if you focus on that during your listen and pick out those lyrics addressing it, it hits so much harder. quad went through some hard stuff but created beauty from it, and if yall gone to therapy, thats the only way to get out of that space. aoty

After I read the lyrics and got the whole idea of the album it became a 10/10, absolutely insane. The idea of committing suicide, All the regrets afterwards of watching others grief. And the fact he thought he’d get answers in the afterlife, but just became lonely and more lost. So many meanings in this album. Quad outdid himself

not to mention I believe House Settling describes him as a ghost trying to kill his mom (so she can be with him in the afterlife) using a gas stove and regretting that, and Danny brown comes through as the antagonist, being the gas from the stove

The fact that someone says this is an album they'll listen to "maybe twice" is insane to me, as I've listened to it countless times. I have never felt the way I feel when listening to this album, and maybe that's just the suicidal fanatic in me; realistically, this is the one album that I've ever listened to repeatedly since it came out. I do not think I could genuinely count how many times I have listened to it. In fact, there was one week where I listened to this album 10 times. It just... feels good to me. I feel serene when it plays, and the imagery resonates heavily. Overall, I would suspect that I have listened to this album upwards of 50 times now, and it will probably continue that way.

So creative and certain AOTY, hope this can continue as Quadeca seems like a great person and I'm happy he is getting the recognition he deserves.

i wouldnt say the lyrics are sacrificed, id say its more intentional that theyre behind the production most of the time. he's a ghost, it makes sense with the meaning of the album. thats why fantasy world has such clear and uncomfortably raw vocals- its a flashback from before the rest of the album.

That was beautiful. Thank you for guiding me through this. As someone with severe major depression your voice kept me from falling in that hole. I've also been very suicidal about a year ago, infact. That was one of many near misses for me. I've also had a near death experience as well, not by my own hand, freak medical thing. When I was hovering just above death, I had a life flash. Like this masterpiece, there's no hate, no sadness, only good things. I think that's what makes death so peaceful. You aren't shown all the time you tried to end it. At least I wasn't shown the internal turmoil. Kinda doesn't make sense for me to end it now. I fought for weeks to Live. I also saw this from the other side as the ghost. I lost my baby sister a few years ago. She was 24. Accidental overdose. The looking in, the cuddled up in a vase, they look up but I'm right here. Again, thank you, Ernest, for being my guide. I can't imagine having missed this masterpiece. As per my book here, I think it's easy for you to seem how I might have otherwise gotten sucked into that hole. Thanks for keeping me topside. On a real note: if you understand this album or what I'm talking about here, like on a soul level..... There is help out there. I've been in therapy for a year now. My husband held my hand for 48 entire hours while I waited to get in with said therapist. He saved my life those 2 nights. He didn't sleep, just held my hand and watched me. I say that to say this, there IS someone out there, maybe not a partner, but there is someone who will hold you hand. I promise. You don't have to feel this way. I love you, yes, You. It's going to be okay.

dude I've been waiting for this man. you're the only guy out of the big big reactors (I consider anyway) that's reacted to this album. thank you also a few things you might not have caught. In House Settling, that song was about him trying to kill his family with carbon monoxide because he wanted them in the afterlife with him. In Knots, he finally regrets it by saying he "turned the oven off". Additionally, a small theory of mine is, Quadeca said fantasyworld was a flashback, so I believe that is the song where he killed himself if you read into the lyrics. Not to mention, it's probably the least distorted of them all.

Album explanation: (Caution: its gonna be a very long comment so read at you own risk😂) Sorry4dying: this song starts right after he commits suicide, hence the lines "left my body lying on the door mat, turned away decided not to go back" and "ive been running in and out of dreams repeat-" cuz hes not been adjusted to the afterlife realm yet. Now he instantly regrets it and misses his mum already- "sorry for dying" and "i just wanna hold you without haunting you". Then when the 808 hits, it represents confusion and fear, so he runs around, panicking. Tell me a joke: now hes accepted his consequence and making the whole situation lighthearted by joking "knock knock who's there". "I tried to walk myself out of the ground" he came out of his grave kinda excited to see "who's there" in the afterlife with him, but he's, yet again, confused, scared and angry which is represented by the distortion in the 1st chorus, as hes met with the sounds of crickets cuz he realizes that hes truly alone. "all i could hear were the crickets, funny, the joke is on me", the joke is on him that h actually misses his life and his mum. As his lighthearted approach to the situation slowly fades and he truly feels the gravity of his consequence this time, hes truly scared and angry as the last chorus is fully distorted. Dont mind me: He now understands that hes "somehwere in between" the living world and the afterlife, the purgatory. Thats why hes alone. He goes to his childhood home to reminisce about the simpler times "opening boxes, looking fot closure" and "i came here to handle my business, i came here to dust off the sofa". There isnt much to explain other than that. Picking up hands: Hes still in his old home, reminiscing about his childhood, "same carpet that i crawled in, same bucket the i was washed in" rest of the song speaks for itself, really.

Born yesterday: Although, im not really sure what "i wasn't born yesterday" means, summary of the overall song is that its hard for him to see that his mum moved on rather quickly from the grief and from him - "you want her, you need her, she no longer needs you" and "ive been tryna unsee, how you moved on from me" My favorite line is "i popped a vein and i made a wish, i made a wish that ill never be" this could mean two things, he wished that he would never be, (aka never exist, he wished he had died.. and he did) or that he made a wish that he'll never be (in this current state, as a ghost, hence wishing he never died). He and his mum still haven't moved on from his death, they're still connected - "ive been ripped from the floor, the umbilical cord is still sort of around me" His perception of time is distorted eventhough its been 12 days since his death - "its been twelve nights and a million years" Memories we lost in translation: He dwells on his childhood memories, and questioning if hes still remembered. House settling: He is now in his mum's home, she hears the floor creek as quadeca walks in but she dismisses them. He describes the gut wrenching loneliness that he feels. He feels like he isnt heard, so he begins to get upset with his mother, he just wants to be with her. So he leaves the stove open to try and kill his mum with CO, just to be with her again.
@saifabidalbloushi
@saifabidalbloushi Жыл бұрын
Knots: In this song, he confirms that he hung himself - "i walk around with knots on my neck, in my chest" and "ask what the news is, i became a nuisance when we tied that knot". Now, people find it hard to talk about him after his death. Later in this verse, he admits that he switched off the stove cuz he felt guilty to try to kill his mum. "I dont cut to black, i cut to static" i dont know what static actually represents in this album, but my guess would be that, unlike the perceivable ghost purgatory stage, its the real afterlife, the one that we cant perceive, hence its static to us. Fantasy world: Now he feels the existential dread, like everyday is the same, like theres no purpose, no meaning to anything. He cries himself to sleep, alone in the dark. So he "drove, mountains away, to a place that ain't real", this most likely references the "mountains" in fmty, that he drove away from the cycle of life, the ups and downs, to a fantasy world, HIS fantasy world. He has a final moment with his mum before he moves on to "static" - "somewhere over the hill, where you cry without speaking, leave your door slightly creaking, its all leaking away" Fractions of infinity: He now thinks that there is more to afterlife than purgatory, that this stage is just a "fraction of infinity". He can now barley hear his mum's voice as he moves on from this realm - "everytime i miss you, i hear a voice without a face, and everytime im with you, the clock hands wave me out of place" when he tried to go back to his mum, time pulls, tugs and waves him back to his ascending state. My favorite line is "walls cave in when you start to pray" indicates that theres a slight opening, a lite connection to the afterlife when one prays, so from his pov, the walls started to cave in, as if shes tearing through the living world to the afterlife. Cassini's division: It is the gap between two layers of saturn's rings, a gap of nothingness in between. So this track are the last thoughts of his before moving on to static, the real afterlife, and letting go. "filtered out grain, filtered out static, filtered out him" he thinks about how she gave birth to him, and that hes so proud of her for doing so. He tells her to "let me go, and dont let go of me". He thinks of how he couldn't let go earlier, but now the void is weighing on him, engulfing him. Still, he tries to hold on to everything by pushing it away, but it follows him like a "curious moon". Now the static fills the room untill it blocks out his visual. He thinks "maybe thats the perfect void thats begging me to join it" so he finally does, moving on from his ghostly form, from the purgatory... from his mum, to an entirely different plain of reality, forever. Thanks for reading all the way through 😁

Some of these are bars once you realize he's a ghost. It's pretty obvious, but when you realize he's a ghost haunting his mother, "Opening boxes, looking for closure. Point to the sky if only you know I'm so much closer" So the mother is opening his childhood boxes with toys, trying to have closure of who their child was, pointing to the sky because their baby is in heaven, but little did she know he's right next to her, haunting her. "I didn't mean to haunt you"

That ending was TERRIFYING as he fades through static I had me a realization that no matter how much grief and pain he has for killing his mother and commiting suicide he evaporates into static and on top of that that the static isn't just his but it could be other ghosts going through the same problems no matter how much his voice hurts HIS WORDS DON'T DO HIM JUSTICE it really gave me the idea that he wasn't turning to static but thousands of others were cutting into static as well just showing the grand scale of the 🌎. For House Settling, I'm pretty sure the song is actually about Ben (or whoever the main character is) filling the house with CO by turning on the oven before he kills himself. It was revealed in Knots that he killed himself through hanging and also possibly had the CO as backup (hence the knots in my neck and my chest). So it's about him regretting his decision to fill the house with CO after he's dead and sees his mom in the house, and the guilt involved. Could be wrong, I dont think Quad has said the meaning himself, but that makes sense to me.

I put a lot of importance on the value of lyrics for any song so the first few minutes of listening to this I was just dead lost. Had it not for your video I doubt I could make it past 2nd song. But damn after that mark this album does you dirty. It's like someone picked you up and threw in the space and you're just endlessly drifting away in the blackness of space. Looking at Giants known as planests , drowning in the deafening silence. Almost mind numbing. This album (with visuals.) is an acoustic masterpiece. The lyrics are not the hero here its the mingling of the sounds that is the actual depiction. The lyrics are the outlines. The vibrant colours are the sounds themselves. At one point of time I was confused if I was listening to a 'painting' . This is definitely art. In a really weird way even though it is so modern , electronic, futuristic but has the heart of a classical music piece. Thanks ernest without you I would have never listened to it. The reason people don’t get you when you say Joji is because this isn’t RnB in any way, this is more adjacent to pop than rnb

Just so you know, the Album is him as a ghost, so after he's already passed. Also, I believe that the song "house settling" is quadeca seeing that his family moved on and replaced him. In “House Settling,” Quadeca experiences feelings of resentment since he is the only one in the afterlife. As a result, he goes to his family’s house and attempts to poison them with heat and carbon monoxide so that they can be with him.
