@howtobicycle38534 жыл бұрын
heuheuheu hyuk hyuk, more so, it just shows how awful the labels are and how nuanced the religion/athiest positions are and how fluid they can be. An atheist can be nostic or agnostic, meaning they claim to know there is not a god, or they don’t claim to know what’s out there, so their position cannot have a god because they can’t assume anything. Most prominent atheists are the agnostic variety. Theist is anyone who does believe in a god. Some people equate spirituality to theism, but many Buddhists are spiritual, but they are technically atheists because they do not believe in a god (Buddha is like a saint). If you say god exists, you are a theist. If you don’t agree with that statement, you are an atheist. In this video, extreme theists and extreme nostic atheists are super salty because neither is a “true Christian” or “true atheist” in the same way the far political parties will label more centrists as not true members of the corresponding party. In the end, these people are very soft in their beliefs, so they both get a lot of hate from opinionated people, and more love from people who aren’t more educated in the nuance of the debate. The rest of people just see the discussion as it is, as just two small voices putting their insignificant opinions into the vast and unknowable universe.

The "ex atheist" therefor is not an ex atheist as you would not just change your whole belief system after believing in facts and so on by just going to church one day nor would an agnostic but if you were christian and just didn't go to church in a really long time and practice it would be easy to get back into it if an effort was made. The ex christian believes theres something some force behind everything which means he's an agnostic as an atheist believes there is no force behind things, it just is how it is and your decisions and choices in life will determine your future and the life you make, theres no force behind you but the force you create.

As an atheist, I almost refuse to believe that you can ever turn to religion (again) if you're a true atheist. What the "ex-atheist" describes here is simply that he didn't *want* to be religious because he was terrified of it because he's gay. Doesn't mean he was an atheist the whole time. An atheist knows and has internalized the fact that religion is man-made, which is why the myths connected with religion are obviously man-made as well, including deities. You can't go from having acknowledged this to ever believing those myths are real in any way, shape, or form. Atheism does NOT mean being "disappointed" with, or "scared" of, religion.

@@afiaadams7550 please explain for others, I am basically an atheist, but I was raised Christian so I have lingering subconscious beliefs. But even if I wasn’t an atheist I now think the Christian God is actually evil in so many different areas. I turned away from religion because I refused to rationalize people suffering FOREVER for any reason. I look at those I love saying “it’s okay, those people who are different from us deserve it” “they are unrepentant sinners” and can’t even fathom what makes them okay with something so abhorrent. They found a way to be okay with that reality, I haven’t. My view is that the real evil is a supreme being who allegedly foresaw & and orchestrated all this suffering for seemingly the pettiest of reasons. Who would bring something sentient into the world knowing that it’d suffer till the end of time? I’d think some restraint would be in order. I was raised and later chastised by friends and family off what I believe to be nonsense. God is obviously a figment of human imagination, he changes as we do (look no further than the difference between old and New Testament or even New Testament and modern Christianity) And God’s existence / deeds revolve so completely and utterly around us humans it’s obviously a token to human vanity. I rant like this only to explain my position and views. I’m not sure I’ll ever find an answer that justifies this particular belief but I’m haven’t closed myself off from discussion.

A few mins in and Conner was never an Atheist he was a Dystheist, as he said he's in the LGBT community and didn't think both parts aligned, so he was possibly more upset with the 'god' he knew of. Being an Atheist means that you are not convinced a god exists and that's generally down to being a critical thinker who challenges mainstream beliefs and focuses more on evidence; so a conversation with an Uber driver wouldn't convince an Atheist to go to church. There is good and bad in all religions, so let's give ourselves some credit we can implement positive ideas in our lives without following a religion, just like we do with all other aspects of our lives that religion hasn't given us rules for. Just for the record, you can be a critical thinker and still believe in God. A lack of scientific proof that something exists does not mean it doesn't. Years ago we lacked proof that the earth was spherical. Does that mean it was actually flat until we discovered that proof? Obviously not. You may say critical thinking automatically leads one to not believe in God, because there is lack of absolute proof of His existence. I say a critical mind would also consider that there is nothing to absolutely disprove God's existence. What we're left with is faith. You can believe, or not believe. Choosing one stance over the other doesn't make someone smarter or more of a critical thinker than the opposite; one side simply has faith. Edit: To be clear, I'm not arguing that religion is right. I disagree with organized religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, etc. I do believe in God and Jesus, though. (Believing in God and Jesus does not automatically make one a member of the Christian religion.)

"I talked with the Taxi chick for a few mins, and then I went to Church and got a bible and everything. Changed my life forever!" "real atheists" aren't that flexible. I think this dude was a Christian, but was afraid to say he was because he was gay and was afraid of the gay community chastising him for it (or vice versa). Or afraid that his god wouldn't love him. @@marysutherland8236 Right, but my point is that a short conversation was all that was needed to convince this "proud atheist" to even go to church in the first place. Most* atheists have read the bible (or at least a good chunk of it.) and have a lot of knowledge of Christianity. This is the exact reason they AREN'T Christians. It's because they've done their research and asked the questions, and caused them to not believe, or not be apart of the religion. So saying that he had one conversation with an Uber driver and that's all that was enough to get this guy into a church for a sermon is pretty much saying that he wasn't REALLY an atheist. He was an "in-denial Christian". He was looking for a reason to be/stay Christian, and this Uber driver gave him some re-assurance, and that's all that was needed. "It's ok, God loves you even though you're gay, and aren't sure how you feel about his religion. God doesn't hate." "Oh my god, you're absolutely right." "Come to church with me this Sunday and you'll see just how welcoming it can be." "Ok, I'm there!" That's not how real conversations between Atheists and Christians go. Even extremely respectful and civil conversations. He was looking for a reason to step into that church, and one presented itself to him so he jumped on it. That's not the definition of Atheism.

I would go to church any time the doors were open. I didn't cuss or do anything against the "word of god" yet it continued. I finally said something and he was put in jail. The issue was my mothers side of the family. While my immediate family was atheist, my mothers side of the family is extreme Christians. The type that live in Alabama, bible belt, small town, school had maybe 1500 for all grades (all grades in 1 school), houses a decent chunk away from each other, and the church was the center of it. They told me when they found out that "everything happens for a reason" and to "pray to god and it will get better". After that i was done with Christianity. I hated and still hate most Christians. I now believe in reincarnation, karma, things like that. It makes me feel better. And when i was lead by christ and became so happy and realised his truth, obviously, i wanted to comfort people again. But this time, guarantee them something worth it. Not just faith in the air. Faith that things will just get better for no reason and you'll move past this moment. But that you actually WILL and there is SOMETHING to believe in. So that they don't give up. And on top of that, really feel like someone is still there when i can't keep commenting for the rest of their lives. Jesus is accessible from anywhere so why can't i suggest someone better than myself at comfort?

Most of what you said is white noise or just platitudes and essentially meaningless. If your think your friends were atheists because they blamed god then they were not atheists. @@MrSouthernlord I strongly disagree that what I said was white noise. I think I spoke fairly clearly? Made sure to use words that any English speaking person can understand. Yeah I've heard a lot of people say exactly that. "I'm not angry at god. I just don't believe in it." Some of those people are believers now, some of them aren't. I think the argument "well then they couldn't have been REAL atheists" is presumptuous at best. "If an atheist used to believe in God than he must not have ever TRULY believed in God." Maybe you see my point from another angle? Most of them became atheists because they thought something like "there's so much evil in the world. So much pain. If there was a god, surely he would do something about it?" And progressed in their atheism off that. Making their foundation essentially blaming God for something did(n't) do. After that you either start believing in an uncaring God or cease belief in a god whatsoever. Unless in fact you come to have a profound personal experience, a revelation. I pray that happens for you, and anyone else who sees this, as it's happened for some of my staunchest atheist friends.

As a former agnostic, the ex Christian raised a lot of questions I used to ask myself. Regarding prophecy, we see in the Bible Elijahs prophecy changed about the kings death once certain events occurred. As far as suffering and pain, even Jesus himself asked god to deliver him from the agony he was about to suffer before his crucifixion. While being on the cross he yelled to god and asked why he has forsaken him. Disease and suffering comes from sin. God does care- just because he hasn’t cured cancer doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist. And FYI, religion aside, there definitely is a cure for cancer but it’s US the humans who have the cure to famine, and disease and homelessness but chose not to solve it.... WE ARE THE PROBLEM. Therefor we have the power to fix. As for the ex atheist, blessed is the Uber driver who welcomed him in open arms. What an amazingly modern testimony lol.

Anyone else notice the SUPER CLEAR parallel between these two!? The Christian admittedly became religious in an attempt to change an old version of himself he didn’t like and try to become something else (sort of the opposite of being yourself)...almost like he’s trying on a bunch of different outfits to get away from a past he didn’t like. By STARK CONTRAST the newly developed Atheist found his Atheism by doing the exact opposite. He is getting in touch with his true self for the first time and feeling the liberation of finally accepting oneself and getting close to who he truly is on the inside. Just goes to show the different motivations that lead people to different existential conclusions: If you are trying to escape yourself by changing into something else then you’re much more likely to find religion...Whereas if you’re focus is to find and accept your true self and get closer to who you really are on the inside and trusting your own instincts instead of being something you’re not...then you’re much more likely to find Atheism.
