2023 marks the 25th anniversary of INEOS and so for the latest edition of INTV we present the programme from Lyndhurst UK. Just a few miles from our current office in Hampshire, a small group of people started a chemicals business that would become one of the biggest companies in the world.
From Acetyls to automotive, from football to fashion, from sanitisers to styrenics and more, it has been a remarkable journey. So to mark the occasion we sat down with the three people who made it happen.
In this edition of INTV, we have an exclusive interview with INEOS founders Jim, John and Andy to hear about the key moments from the last 25 years. We hear about the acquisition of INNOVENE from BP, the one deal that truly transformed the business, and the latest news from around the INEOS Group.

Well, since Ineos is into chemicals, I wonder if it should explore the following: 1- Battery manufacturing: The Lithium and Sodium ion batteries. The demand is already quite immense without even the electric cars and other forms of electrical transportation. I think solid state batteries are the safest, but some people are also exploring liquid and gaseous storage batteries for power plants. 2- Composite fibers: Some of these are even stronger than metals and, of course, lighter. 3- Semi-conductor manufacturing: Everything these days, everything is computerized, so you have multiple niches to manufacture for and serve-high-end, mid-end, or low-end. The process to manufacture semiconductors relies on chemistry and photolithography. 4- Tire Manufacturing: A tremendous global appetite for qualify tyres. I had earlier, in 2003, proposed tires with hundreds of tiny air-pockets, so if even a few of them got punctured, the entire tire wouldn’t go flat. 5- Plastics and Polymers in Generals: Plastics are so versatile that they have replaced fibers, wood, and metals in most applications. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of something that is replacing all other materials? 6- Alloys and Other metals: I doubt if the world could ever have enough aluminum and steel or even copper, zinc, and nickel. You can blend cheaper metals with rarer metals to create alloys. Finally, even if steel mills are closing in some parts of the world, that isn’t because there is no demand, but because they can’t keep up with competition, so steel mills in regions with low costs of production would still thrive 7-Industrial Chemicals, Lubricants and Paints: Their use is universal and people can’t risk poor quality, so you could command a premium in pricing. 8- Pharmaceutical-, Molecular Biology-, and Genetic Engineering-based Products, Solutions and Cures: Together, they present holistic cures, whereas with alloys, plastics and sensors and processors, they could even provide prostheses. 9- Hydrogen: It’s the greatest source of energy and can easily be extracted from oceans of water, but is very volatile and hard to tame, so if you can find a process to tame it, you can bury the energy crisis. I personally would never use it as a fuel because it is very volatile, but others might. One can make a fortune devising means of extracting it from sea water and then storing and transporting it as Ammonia by combining it with atmospheric nitrogen. 10- Methane(CH4): If you could convert CO2 from fossil-fuel waste gases or other waste and combine that with hydrogen extracted from water by electrolysis, you could create methane, which you can use to generate electricity on the site, or pipe, or package into cylinders and bottles to sell. 11- Storage of Renewable Energy in Steam, or Cooled and Warmed Liquids and Gaseous, or Pumped Water in Upstream Dams Instead of batteries: You can either convert electrical energy generated by solar, wind and wave sources into steam, and then use it directly for heating and cooling(to directly drive the compressor of the Airconditioner), or you can reconvert it into electricity by driving a turbine and then use it anyway you wish to. You could also use a Fresnel lens to convert water into steam and then leverage the steam to turn a turbine to generate electricity. You could also pump seawater into upstream dams(these might pollute somewhat with seepage, but perhaps even augment the underground water if the soil filters it well), and then release that water to turn a down-stream turbine to generate electricity when there is no Sun or wind. You’ll be storing the energy in the potential energy of water in this instance and in heat energy in all the other instances.

Just found this, fascinating interview. I forget just how large Ineos is and they just seem to get on with it. I don't follow football but I do have a Grenadier and love it.

I would broadly define materials, energy, pharmaceuticals(and allied healthcare products), fabrics, hybrid seeds, pesticides, tools(alloys and industrial diamonds) lubricants and specialty chemicals, as, perhaps, areas of opportunity. Of these, pesticides, seeds, and, perhaps, even pharmaceuticals could subject you to class-action lawsuits, so are to be trodden with care.

I like the rugged look of the truck. Air intake above the cabin. Exhaust should be too. Make it a bit wider so it can’t tumble over. The Quatar people spend money like they exchange pleasantries. Those pockets are like an abyss. Who can out bid them really?

It's funny, SJR is the same way the Glazers are managed. look at Sjr's track record at the OGC Nice club which is as bad as Man United in the Glazers era which is currently in a bad state.

@@adelard7160 by that logic look at FC Malaga who got relegated to second league. They are owned by qatari. PSG is also badly run club, its Hollywood fc run by mbappe. All qatar. Nice isnt doing so bad by their standard in france but could do better. Even SJR said it was learning experience. And money isnt even big factor, Manchester spent bilions of its own money in past decade. We just need decent people in charge who can manage our finance and keep us away fron debt. Not oil regime with its infinite money

Qatar is not best for our club. Please learn a bit more about both sides before speaking. There is slight chance you will see reason in not wanting oil regime deluting any of our future success. Manchester united has money, we are massive, it just needs good and competent owner. Look at malaga or even psg(Hollywood fc). Not great. My pick is guy is self made bilionare who gets stuff done and is true fan. It would keep us special and original. GGMU
