The reason housing is so expensive in New York City is that there's very limited capacity, and too many people want to live there. So, from an efficiency standpoint, residential towers would make sense. Obviously, luxury towers are not going to help, especially when people are not actually living in them. There are more people than anytime in history, and the dollar has been devalued many times over its value. The billionaires of today are the millionaires of the 20th and 19th century. And that is only going by public-facing data like Forbes. There are people and entities far more powerful and wealthy than the mere billionaires like Musk and Bezos, they just don't appear on any of the magazines and social media. If you're going to commit to this ideology, focus on them first and for most. I have no problem with billionaires owning some floors of some building when there are trillionaires that own entire countries and their populations. I have no problem with a billionaire spending millions on the businesses of a city when the city itself takes tens of billions from the businesses each year and completely wastes most of the funds on absurdities. The vast majority of people are still wealthier and have access to a much higher standard of living than ever before. Yes, improvements can always be made, and there will always be richer and poorer groups. But it is not going to change if you stop some person from buying a house in one city. This is so disgusting. Shouldn’t we focus more on finding housing for those who aren’t rich?

Exactly. There's the old school "Millionaire's Row" on Fifth Avenue (Upper East Side along Central Park) which looks decent and then there's this hideous stretch on the south side of Central Park called "Billionaire's Row". These towers are hideous and hard to comprehend (homeless people downwind) when you unfortunately have to walk by them every day.

Land in Manhattan is way too expensive, especially in this part

they seriously built this building and literally no one is moving in. also, i'm now a fan of my girl saying how about building affordable housing. good on her.

The absurdity of this, and many other buildings of the same type, is simply obscene.

I'm rich and I wouldn't want to live here. No matter what they say, there have been issues about swaying in the super-tall buildings. Long elevator rides. Many cloudy days with no view at all. And not a place to be if there is ever a blackout or disaster. I'd prefer a nice duplex overlooking Central Park or a charming townhouse downtown.

Nice. If I were rich and lived in NYC, I would prefer a renovated Brownstone. Keep the old NYC feel with updated interiors.

@@pyropulseIXXI True. I'm only "I'll spend $20 million on an apartment" rich.

Did he say 250 million for basically three apartments built into one, complete with anti suicide fence? Park the money that is what this is about.

Those who can actually afford this should be taxed within inches of their existence.

I doubt most of these billionaire buyers pay taxes. They just donate the property to a fake non-profit and lease it back for $1 a year. That is what the wealthiest family in my city did with their mega-mansion.
@chasenip22 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the Burj Khalifa has no sewage system. Everyday the desert slaves (who have built the failure that is the fake, Instagram city) drive a railroad line of tanker trucks into and out of the city to clean out the waste of the building. The apartments built well over 100 years ago along 5th Ave & the UWS are still going strong. These buildings are future rubble.

I hope no one is offended given history. But haven't the designers taken into account the ease of access for another madman to fly into one of these?

New zoning laws are desperately needed. No more buildings over 1000 feet in NYC except office and commercial space. 500 feet maximum height for any building half a mile around Central Park. Should have been done a long time ago.

Same reason they built the entire building - it’s not meant to really be a place to live, just a place to own. And the more expensive the better.
