The carriage box is something folks who drive them still use. You keep everything you need in them in case you break down. You also keep some leather straps in them in case a piece of leather tears on your harness. I used to drive horses. That box was AWESOME!

Finding out the history of old homes is absolutely fascinating! If I ever go to Columbia I'm definitely going to stay in that B&B. Such cool stories! I was in an older house in Meadville PA that had similar stairs that you encountered where they were used for the servants to travel back and forth between rooms and not be seen by the owners while doing their daily duties. And then another old home I visited when I used to live in the South, had a bell in the dining room floor right underneath where the husband sat at the head of the table. Whenever they needed to summon the servants he would press it with his foot and they would hear the bell in the kitchen! I love this kind of stuff!

Good evening, George! I'd definitely live in that B & B. Loved the secret room! That massive house I used to have had something along that line. I didn't even know it was there, until the cable guy found it when he was running the cable for the house. There'd be a lot of white that would have to go away in the house, for me, but loved the layout. Being an artist, white walls just don't do it for me. I actually liked the Delacroix art, and I'm usually not too fond of that type of art. I do, seriously, like Jackson Pollock, though! I'd have definitely paid $45.00 for the jack-o-lantern candy collection bucket. Seriously liked the old wagon box! Love these appraisal fair premiers! Thanks for the take-along!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
That's so funny! Secret rooms are a fantastic feature in any house, I always wanted to have one. I liked where they used strong colors in the rooms, I think the way you might do things in your own home gets tempered when you're renting it but they were not shy about strong design in the living and dining rooms! I do like Pollock and I thought the Delacroix was interesting enough and very thoroughly done. The wagon box, I could own that, I seem to be noticing handmade true antique primitives a lot lately. $45! What a deal on that Halloween bucket. I really do like doing appraisal fairs and look forward to showing you more this Fall!

@@TheAntiqueNomad I actually never went back to that room the cable guy found. The house had..."eccentricities"...so I wasn't about to get myself into a place where I couldn't stand and run😆 I like the jewel tones in a house, especially in one that old. I rented five bedrooms in that monster I had, and there wasn't a white wall in the house. Pollock's work is fantastic! I, too, am really noticing the handmade primitive antiques. They seem to have more of a "human feel" to them than the factory-made items. That was a freakin' steal on that jack-o-lantern bucket! Looking forward to more of the appraisal fair premiers!!!

What an interesting town & such a beautiful house. Thanks for the tour, George! You know those little "stairs to nowhere", reminds me of Jocelyn's new home. She did a home tour before they moved in & there was a few of those "stairs to nowhere", as she called them, & the "house of a dozen doors". That secret room was amazing! Yes, if only the walls could talk what a tale they'd tell! I'm about sure enslaved people were hidden & helped there.

The painting is interesting. Might be something listed in Benezit. I usually have good luck with artists there. If it is a NY artist from the Beat period in NY, there were tons of artists working just like there were tons of poets, musicians, etc. I would look into some books about that particular period in NY. A very interesting time!

Yep.. Vernon Grant was from Rock Hill SC. I lived there for a while and was able to see his work in real life when we visited a printer who printed out limited edition prints of my own artwork. Question, though... speaking of art. I have had pieces travel the world, get sold to people all over and I have had work disappear that traveled in a tour and have had other art stolen. I also have some pieces displayed in various areas. Do you think that if someone came in with one of my pieces, that it would be known as mine? I've always wondered. I have a different last name.

How neat that you got to see his stuff up close! Sorry to hear about your losses...I think if you want it to be known, you might create a bio that includes both your surname and your artist name...if you feel comfortable revealing that.

I hope you got a great rate for staying there because of the terrific tour you gave of the house. Doubt that the secret room was used by the Underground Railroad though as the house was built in 1876. Another informative and enjoyable video. Thanks so much, George!! P.S. I can't find "Curb Digger Karl/Carl " on KZbin or the web. What am I doing wrong??

I have done that before George, marked an item up and it sold with 2 weeks after sitting in my booth for 5 or 6 months. Plus another peraon has asked the owner of the flea market when I was marking it down, left a contact number, but never answered. So go figure, your rational is correct. People want to brag about what they have paid for an item. This was an antique brass fire extinguisher!!!
