HD wasn't planning on being exposed. I got disgusted with HD years ago, the attitude in a dealership, the warranty requires a lawyer, getting a bike serviced was a expensive nightmare. I'm not saying this to try and start crap but I went back to metric bikes a few years ago and not one single problem since. Everyone has their choice of what they want and I respect that. Everyone ride safe.

I’ve been riding motorcycles for over four decades. I’ve owned every metric bike out there, but I’ve never owned a Harley. That being said, I still love riding Harley Davidson motorcycles I just simply don’t own one for several reasons mostly price. At the end of the day I got into riding motorcycles in the early 80s because I love riding motorcycles. Quite frankly I don’t give a shit what name is on the side of the bike. It’s about how the bike makes me feel when I’m riding it. And that includes Harley Davidson, metric, European and everything else out there.

I really appreciate your comment. It's rational and not insulting. I only ride Japanese bikes. I am back on crotch rockets after being on big cruisers for 15 years. My riding has changed and I am not interested in big rides or anything like that anymore. It's daily transport and weekend fun. I can still pack for a week trip if I want, but none on the horizon right now. I am all about the curves. I am a 50 year old gay dude, riding for over 35 years. I know that corporations who sponsor pride are doing it for the same reasons as do for any advertising. Make money. The LGBT community has and always will be a target, we are mostly dinks, duel income, no kids. Bottom line, we have disposable income. We are usually educated and have good paying jobs. I don't buy into the pandering. I don't buy products because they slapped on a rainbow flag. However, it obviously works and helps the bottom of these companies.

As a marketing major in college, we learned a marketing concept " You need to fit the asses of the masses." This means that running a successful business embraces the largest segment of your customer base and catering your marketing programs towards them. All this DEI and woke stuff does just the opposite. It seeks to highlight minority groups and push their issues to the forefront. When this is done, the vast majority of individuals get tired of being constantly bombarded with messages and images that do not pertain to us. Furthermore, these messages really have nothing to do with the company or the products they make. Not liking this messaging doesn't mean we are prejudiced against any of these groups. It just shows that it doesn't apply to the vast majority of us, and it certainly doesn't apply to our motorcycling experience. When we ride, we want to enjoy the freedom of being on the road and enjoying our time with like-minded people. Do I hate LGBT people or minorities? No, I do not!!! But this whole DEI and woke mentality assumes I do and targets me daily for a corrective massage program. That's why people push back and sometimes boycott a company for forcing this down our throat!!! So manufacturers listen up. Make an excellent product, run your business ethically, and stop assuming your customers need a daily reminder on how to treat others around us!!!

My question is who has been pushing DEI and other divisive wedge issues. Politicians that’s who, they push these talking points to gain personal power while we fight amongst ourselves about who is right and who is wrong. These companies have been embracing these practices for the last ten years or more, and it wasn’t until it became a wedge issue in the political landscape did people really take notice and rebel against it. The real problem is the exorbitant fees that come with Harley and they way the treat their customers with all these fee’s and hefty prices for a bike with low tech that fails in comparison to what Honda, BMW, Indian and other manufacturers are doing.
@pontiacdriver9993 ай бұрын
I agree, however my issue is the only ones who are really vocal about it are the people who hate the different minority communities. I agree with you and Hegs in that companies need to stay neutral or more apt to their main customers in their marketing campaigns, but at the same time the hate in this country is absolutely disgusting and it’s really only the haters that are super vocal and critical about it.

I find both woke and anti-woke people to be equivalently hysterical; they both get triggered by minor things that have no effect on them. For instance, none of this LGBT and Diversity and Inclusion affects us personally, so being reactive to it is highly hysterical. I'd be much more concerned with, say, illegal wage theft. Nothing else takes more money out of your pocket than that. That's, what, several thousand dollars each year per worker?

@felipe.gtz.b3 ай бұрын
But that's the thing, the hiring is done by human beings.. for any open position HR will get tons of candidates, and a lot of those will have the required skills. So the hiring will be driven by "who looks like it will be more comfortable working with", and that's how you end up with a homogeneous. workforce. Therefore, without a company policy enforcing inclusivity, you end up discriminating against anyone that doesn't look like you.

And you can replace in that example "only hiring men" with women, or white men, or young men, pretty much any criteria.. any place that has a homogeneous workforce can benefit from DEI policies. The terms ‘woke’ and ‘dei’ have been weaponized to bring in divisive arguments. Woke meant people thinking outside of their bubble. DEI is to ensure there is diversity - does NOT promote unqualified employees. You still have to be qualified - but it emphasizes diversity to bring in different perspectives. Please stop adding to the divisive culture. We’re all about riding and being inclusive. I’m HD but ride with bikers from all brands and all walks of life. Just because a company tries to include all people as riders, doesn’t mean they require a backlash. And the comment about the bud light going ‘full american’ seems to indicate that only the white Americans are the only true Americans… we’re all Americans and the fact that we have to continue conversations like this means that there really is a need for DEI.

Reading as a European, it is really hard for me to find the "divisiveness" in any topic about human rights. We all know it's marketing, you don't have to explain it to me or others, but it is really difficult to find the harm in a company supporting _equal_ (not more!) rights for its workforce and its riding base. Whenever I hear "this is political" arguments to an expansion of rights to include other human beings, I can't help but think that it is certain specific, fear-mongering networks (which plight the US of A particularly) which conveniently turned all this "political" to stoke fear, engagement and action from a certain susceptible base. You can disagree, and we can agree to disagree. It is another thing to analise this move from a branding and business management perspective, where considering HD riding base, it might have not been the most riskless choice from em. But maybe, just maybe, they are tryin' to reach other demographics of customers who normally wouldn't imagine themselves as a typical HD customer, and addressing that by these little harmless campaings should be a nice thing, one you should rejoice for, not whine about or undermine. Any other "non-LGBTQ" HD rider should be glad about this kind of base-expanding campaigns, if only _they_ weren't the ones who cling onto these things, whine about em and, thus, make em "political". Just my 2cents.

@casey11033 ай бұрын
I see your point, and im replying respectfully to show you ours. It's one thing to try to advertise to crowds outside your typical customer base to bring in more riders, and it's one thing to support diversity and equality in your company. But the way it's being gone about is atrocious, especially in the United States. I've never been to Europe and I'm not sure if you've ever been to the USA but many of us were brought up with certain values. Values like: skin color doesn't matter, sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you, we may disagree on certain things but we are all still Americans, judge by character not by appearance, right is right even if you're the only one doing it. I can go on and on. But now, all these initiatives and DEI and whatnot has flipped the script. They're saying skin color matters. They're saying words are violence and not agreeing with what they say makes you racist, and bigoted, and a terrible human being. White people are being forced to attend seminars and trainings about the crimes of the white race and the dangers and privileges of whiteness. They're more likely to hire a black lesbian than doesn't ride and knows nothing about bikes than they are a white straight guy who's been riding for 30 years just to get the diversity points. That affects quality of service. And it's not just Harley Davidson. They're just the most recent in a long line of companies hopping on this bandwagon cramming this stuff down the throats of people that don't support it, cramming it down the throats of their original customer base despite the fact it going against the vast majority of our personal views and values. And here in the USA it has been politicized. There is one party heavily endorsing and supporting and pushing this stuff, and the other party fighting back as hard as possible. It's causing division in our country to the point where a lot of people not only believe there will be a second civil war but where many are starting to think it's the only way to solve the problem. The message being pushed now is left is right and right is wrong. How am I supposed to feel about a company that I've been loyal to my whole life that now openly supports policies being pushed by a group of radicalists and a political party that says I'm inherently bad for being white? That the color of my skin is offensive? That my skin color matters more than my character, skills and abilities? Not only that how am I supposed to support a company who openly supports and pushes the policies of a radical political party that says I'm evil for being a conservative and a Christian and because I don't agree with everything they say I'm a racist and a bigot. How do I support companies that tell me I have to say a man is a woman and a woman is a man or else I lose my job? That's not freedom its tyranny, and it goes against the very foundation our country was built on. They drew a line in the sand and told us to pick sides and then they hated us for standing on the opposite.
@jhonnydumeny98163 ай бұрын
Well said. I’m not sure what’s wrong with equity in this country? DEI does not mean the people that are not Caucasian are not qualified. Nowadays people on the right think that every Black, Hispanic, middle Eastern or woman in a position means that they only got hired because of the lie skin color or gender. So every doctor, lawyer, engineer, and astronaut that’s Black or Hispanic or woman means that they got the job not base on merit? It’s offensive. So no matter how hard I work if I obtain a position like Doctor, lawyer or engineer it means that I got not base on merit?
@eduardocorrea5303 ай бұрын
@@casey1103, have you ever considered that for so long, it has been people of color and LGB communities that have never been given a fair opportunity to be hired? So when companies look to diversify their employee population, it’s not so much “we don’t want White people” but more, “we need to finally give other people an opportunity”. Yeah, I understand that may make “White people” FEEL like they are unwanted, but that’s not what’s actually happening, what’s actually happening is the unfair advantage of being White is being taken away. The other issue is that you are working under the assumption that people of color or members of the LGB community are not qualified and/or not qualified more than a white person. White people here are getting all worked up because people of color and gay people are getting hired or being advertised to, and yet want to claim it’s not prejudice or racism🤷🏽♂️ your action in fact proves that it’s about skin color or sexual preference, because if it wasn’t, you wouldn’t care who gets hired or advertised to.
@casey11033 ай бұрын
@@eduardocorrea530 of course I have, and I see your point. If there were two similarly qualified candidates for a job and one was white and the other was black or LGB then I would consider that fair enough. BUT thats rarely the case. What we are seeing is severely underqualified candidates being hired for jobs based on skin color and sexual orientation over more experienced and more qualified candidates who are just straight white men. I'm not saying that's every time. But I'm going to say it's the majority of the time. And I'm watching it happen at my job which is in an industry where you really don't want someone underqualified performing the work, you know? Everyone should get the opportunity to get the job Regardless of sexual orientation or skin color but whoever gets the job should be the most qualified candidate, not the most "diversified" candidate. Also, it's not that we feel or perceive we are unwanted. When I have to start taking mandatory trainings about the privileges and dangers of "whiteness" that's a pretty clear sign of where the powers that be stand. I grew up poor white trash. I didn't have any "privilege" and I worked hard to get where I am now. It wasn't being white that earned it and it wasn't being straight that earned it, it was effort and the ever present Grace of God. When I'm told that I have to hire the man dressed as a woman and wearing the raccoon tail on his pants that just graduated college with an unrelated degree over the construction superintendent with the 20 years of experience for the heavily laborious factory job that requires mechanical inclination, knowledge of hand tools, and strict adherence to safety standards then it's a problem. And that's not an exaggeration.

I am a 50 year old gay dude, riding for over 35 years. I know that corporations who sponsor pride are doing it for the same reasons as they do for any advertising. Making money. The LGBT community has and always will be a target, we are mostly DINKs duel income, no kids. We are usually educated and have good paying jobs. Bottle line, we usually have a higher percentage of disposable income. I don't buy into the pandering. I don't buy products because they slapped on a rainbow flag. I am a consumer like everyone else. I want a quality product at a reasonable price. Whether it's a chocolate bar or a motorcycle. I don't look at the politics of a company or their internal policies. Some companies have been really supportive of the LGBT community for many decades. Gay Pride in Toronto was sponsored by Labatts Beer since I was 16 years old. The president at the time had a gay son, it was a really big deal for them to do this. It was unheard of. However, I drink Molson. But I am thankful for Labatts being a pioneer. I live in a very religious town in Alberta, Lethbridge. I hate it here, can't wait to move. Pride in Lethbridge is sponsored by Theoretical Brewery, disgusting beers and Barefoot Wines, also disgusting. I wish they didn't sponsor so I could get something better to drink. I just don't go to any functions. I do know lots of families go to the parade and celebrations in the park. I guess it's a very big event for the city. I don't care that people go and enjoy themselves or drink the swill. Their choice and it sounds like it a good time is had. I choose how I spend my time and money. My sexuality doesn't factor in. So, don't waste your time or money on policies or politics of a company. They change constantly and never really reflect on the personal views of people in company. The only thing they care about, is getting cash from all of us. Don't think for a minute that Harley cares about anyone. All companies exist to make somebody rich and it's not the customers. Also, you guys are using the term woke wrong. Just stop saying it. I only ride Japanese bikes. I am back on crotch rockets after being on big cruisers for 15 years. My riding has changed and I am not interested in big rides or anything like that anymore. It's daily transport and weekend fun. I can still pack for a week trip if I want to. I am horrible person, I just buy new cheap shirts, socks, whatever and throw them out as I go. I don't actually pack much, I just keep running into Walmarts along the way. Anyways, please don't get hung up on who sponsored pride, you might miss out on a product you actually want. As far as trans kids, I will keep it short and sweet. It should be between parents, doctors and psychologists, not governments. Call a kid by whatever they want to be called, as long as they are actually engaged in school. Teachers have a hard time reaching kids. Use whatever tool you have to get them to let you in. Personally, I think clothes can make you look like any gender and puberty blockers should only be used in extreme cases where the child resorts to self harm. Most of the time, it's just kids trying to find their tribe. And it is also trendy. Puberty blockers are only effective as long as they take them. When they stop them, homeostasis takes over the body and development happens as it would have normally. No permanent solutions to temporary problems.

I began saying back in the late 80's and early 90's that Harley Davidson was trying to move beyond their customer base. My father and 3 of my uncles all rode Harley's and I grew up tearing down nuck's, pans, flat's and even Iron's. We even had a few Harley dirt bikes that were just a lot of fun. My 16th birthday came around in January of 1990 and my Dad traded up a 76 sporty with bi-centennial stickers on it and a lot of anniversary stuff. I rode through that summer and the next and then a friend of mine showed up on a brand new Honda Hurricane and offered to trade me for it, being young and dumb I did it and my Dad was mad as he could be. wasn't even 3 weeks before he came home with a bright orange set of full racing leathers and told me if he ever caught me on that bike without those on I would never see it again. About a week later that bike almost killed me but those leather saved me a whole lot of skin. I left home about 6 months later and the first thing I bought with my adult money was a 1993 Harley Davidson Softail custom, cost me 11,500 from my deployment money and was shipped to me from Honolulu. I rode that thing all over Germany in the 2 years I was there and a few other countries that the US carries SOFA agreements with and it was the time of my life. An unfortunate turn of circumstances prevented me from being able to ship it back although I did take off a lot of pieces and start mailing them home. I ended up selling it to a friend for 6000 and came back home with all the intentions of buying another, but I never seemed to have the money to get another one. Couple years home I made some strategic moves and came up with an 883 and this was where I learned much more than I ever thought I would. Even having had wrenched on them as a kid and worked with the old stuff I knew the innovation within the sportsters and it showed me a whole new life. My uncle and I turned that bike into a road ripping monster of a machine that actually dyno tested at Darlington at 97 HP and 112 FP of torque which was big for the time. I lost that bike because of some other unfortunates but as I looked around I began to see that the motor company was just getting out of hand with pricing and customer service was in the drink. I spent a lot of years riding a 75 Honda CBR 1000, a GSXR 750, a 1983 Honda Goldwing, a Shadow 750 and a Vulcan 800. Then my Dad passed away and I gained his 93 Goldwing which I will keep till I can pass it to my grandson. In the last coupe years I actually got the nerve to buy another bike from Harley and I kind of regret it but I love it too. I ride a Fatboy Lo that is currently sitting on 25K miles but rides like a dream. I have done oil changes and made a few upgrades but every time I get close to a dealer it never costs me less that n $100 and has gone as high as as $1000 when I had tires changed. that bike has cost me right at 17000 so far but it was only 11000 when I bought it. My point is that I have been waiting for someone to finally agree that Harley needs a rude awakening but instead everyone just followed suit and in some cases even doubled down. Now here we stand with the most American motor company in the world now and they are turning their backs on all of us to try and fit in with a political agenda. All I can say is I told you so, but then who listens to some kid ( now 50) who has no experience? Now I am just a conspiracy theorist living in paranoia, or so I am told. Be prepared and remember, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS NEXT \, DO NOT COMPLY.

Nobody should stop or give anything up in their lives because a major corporation supports other Americans. It shouldn't affect your life that much that you feel the need to give up certain things in your life. Be a true American and learn to accept that different people, who may not be like you, also live in this country.

Maybe I’m not getting the real issues here, but HD has been fleecing their customers for decades now, I remember when you had to pay a premium fee just to be considered a potential customer to THEN be able to buy a Harley. These bikes have been overpriced and under reliable for decades now. And all that was ok, but now if the company wants to branch out and fleece people of color or someone who is gay, now THAT is a problem, and oh boo hoo I’ve been treated like a cheated wife?!?!?! I ride Hondas, because they are reliable and a good value for the money, I don’t care WHO else is riding Hondas, it’s none of my business! Other riders don’t affect WHO I am! My motorcycle doesn’t make me who I am. What’s wrong with people!?!?!

If anything, he should’ve ditched Harley when he bought a brand new one and it had so many problems it wasn’t even rideable and made multiple videos about it simply not working. But the brand loyalty is so strong you’ll never see true criticism. Even with this, this is just going along with the Harley fanboy community talking points.

You’re hurting the wrong people. The dealerships are not part of the Motor Company poor decisions. They are franchises, some family owned for years. Maybe your friends and neighbors just trying to earn a living. Let’s direct our energy where it belongs. Harley-Davidson upper management, not the hardworking employees.
@bryanstaten55853 ай бұрын
@@jagjr6772 partially true but these family owned dealerships had to bend over and kiss corporate ass to upsize and remain a dealership. So if they are bowing down to corporate wholeness does that not make them part of the problem? It's like being a govt employee knowing damn well how corrupt the govt and ALL its agencies are yet choosing to remain their pawn employee. Makes them complisate to the corruption.

Here's the problem... Some CEO's and hiring staff do not see color and seriously only want good, dedicated and skilled workers. However, there is a huge chunk of America that still, won't hire people who are gay or of color or they lean toward the white folks. So, unions and the Gov steps in to try and fix it, but that doesn't work. Just like you can't force me to have a band member of color, I'll give push back if that's not my choice. It's not out of racism, it's out of what works for me. If they are of color or gay and they do a great job, maybe I'll make that decision. However, forcing companies is another thing. But, with unions and shareholders, etc, etc. there is expectation and pressure for inclusion. I would not say they went, "woke". They more or less have to work within the bounds. So, what's the answer? We would hope that by now people are automatically inclusive, but they aren't.... some, certainly not all. It would be nice if people acted out of their own conscious, but we aren't there yet. Indian? They are owned by Polaris. Who the hell knows what the policies are there. However, I bet the majority of people boycotting Harley aren't even the market for a bike right now. And... what about all the shirts and apparel that they make in China? Can we talk about that?
