"I'm da Boss". You tell em Chris. In actuality though a good boss will have great employees and it seems to show in these videos you produce. With what you have shown the technology being implemented within the Ebike realm is like an explosion. I haven't seen anything like it in the manual bicycle world.

Excellent post! That 24K gold plated Rohloff was cool. I noticed a red anodized one in the background. I've always wondered why Rohloff never got into the color craze on their hub shells like Chris King, Hope, Onyx, and Industry 9. *

I am a career cyclist and am not in that "give me the manual, non-electric mode". I think you are on a good point here that it is not just about adopting or gaining cyclists to ride this "new bike" but there is a new consumer who wants to bike to work or take the kids to the park. Great points made here and excited what more you will share.

I fall into the catagory as "new cyclist" I think. I'm 72 years old and I've rode bikes since I was 6 years old, but the ebike scene is fairly new to me. I just ordered a Gazelle with the enviolo drive and now 3 days later I've read hundreds of comments, with a smattering of negative in there. Specifically: Some indicate that I'll lose a % of power and the natural "feel" of a traditional chain drive. What are your thoughts? At this stage in my life I would like to have simplicity, and I do have memories of annoying derailleur fussing. Thank you

Loving your Eurobike presentations , re: Rohloff e-14 , i have a 2019 R&M Supercharger , gates drive and unfortunately within a space of 24 months have experienced two major oil leaks on the e-14 side , the first one being the e-14 side oil seals , the new leak, is once again all over the e-14 and brake rota etc .The Rear wheel is now back with my bike dealer (UK) and being prepared to be shipped back once again to Rohloff. I have used Rohloff hubs for years, with no oil leaks and swear by them, but this issue is now seriously testing my faith in them , maybe its a rogue hub ? or just the E-14 ? note some of the guys on EBR have also experienced the same problem .

Tandem looks ok as a cruiser, but lacks the synchronised pedals (front and rear)(pilot and stoker) of a traditional tandem. Could affect stability, setting off etc, I’ve a Moustache that has a clever engineered chain ring added. (You’ve covered it in previous vids!) Great vids as usual Chris and team.

Have you tried kindernay? Im interested in kindernay or rohloff for my emtb. Id like yo get rid of long cage derailleurs , cassettes and constant adjustments. Kindernay is lighter than rohloff and has a new 7spd thats even lighter. Mayne rohloff is devdloping a 7, 8 or 9 for the emtb market that will also be lighter with similar gearing?

Thinking about buying an ebike with the Enviolo CVT, and was wondering how much it costs to upgrade(?) to automatic shifting? Is it just the Bosch cable and Enviolo controller, and are any required firmware updates free of charge?

Great to meet you today. I would estimate it’s about 600 between parts and labor but it could be a little bit more. It would be ideal to get the OE to reprogram the Bosch motor but I look forward to testing the system without the Bosch programming.

I don't see any use for an automatic shifting bike . Unlike a motor driven. I get tired and need lower gears when I want them . That is what gears are for.

Please please please when building these automatic transmissions try to put an accelerometer or some kind of altitude detection system to these motors to automatically help you out and select less stiffened gearing when travelling up hills. Often times when riding my fathers e bike with a internal electrified shimano 8 speed it changes up when going up hills meaning it gets too difficult to pedal upwards due to straining and means sometimes I either have to get off or slow down and try to re-train my cardiovascular system to cope with slow pedalling of a slightly heavy e bike up hills. E bikes are wonderful, though, and not every e bike is like this. Please don’t be put off by my problems when looking to buy an electric bike, use them as lessons to learn where to guide yourself into the best purchase

I’m not sure if I’d want the automatic system. I never like to shift my Nuvinci N380 under any load. I always want to stop pedalling for a second or so at least. I would be concerned that I’d be able to feel it awkwardly shifting constantly. But on the other hand, it can also be frustrating when using the N380 how you end up making the tiniest changes to get the ratio perfect, and if it eliminated that and worked the same way then that does appeal to me.

Longtime cyclist, the fitness, roads and paths e-bike I'm shopping has Automatiq. Whoa, Trigger, are you wanting me to give away control? Have tried the manual Enviolo but not gotten the Automatiq yet. Should this longtime pedal guy have serious interest in the Automatiq?

Quick question. Is there any point to crossbar bikes anymore with ebikes? Aren't the step-throughs rigid enough given the wider frame on e-bikes?
@tuunaes
@tuunaes 2 жыл бұрын
For same weight/amount of material classic "diamond" frame with top tube forming triangle is always stronger, that's just basic physics. Because of high leverage multiplying bending forces from rider's weight step-through frame needs very strong structure around motor. (forming weak spot into structure) Also down tube is under lot more stresses without top tube. Though bigger diameter to house integrated battery might increase strength automatically enough.

I am lucky to have ebikes with Enviolo (packster 40) and Rohloff (homage). For the time being, I don't see the point of automatic shifting, for both technical and practical aspects. Main difference between cars and ebikes (for this topic) is that all power is generated by motor for the cars; that is not the case for ebikes, and gear system must work correctly even when users ride them without assistance. * with the Rohloff, even with the link with Bosch motor to reduce power when shifting, gear shifting is not pleasant when you continue to push on pedals (nevertheless, in such cases, it works slightly better than the full mechanical system that I have on another "muscular" bike). You still need to ease pedalling when you change gear in order to have fluid gear change. I cannot imagine how it works when gear may change anytime... Rohloff should rather work on a more ergonomic shifter. * with the Enviolo, I suppose that the automatic system can change demultiplication continuously, without being affected by pedalling. But with Enviolo, I cannot see the utility: I am not changing "gear" as many times that I do with Rohloff; maybe because I use the Packster far more often with assistance (80 to 90% of time, but it is a personal estimation) than I do with the Homage (about 50% of the time). A positive aspect must be the removal of the gear cable (disconnecting an electric cable is mainly far easier to perform when you have to fix a flat on the road side). So, if the automatic system provide a practical manual system, then it may become very interesting.

@@Propelbikes I would like that. We are on a week long bike vacation now up the coast and 17 mile drive later this week. Any ideas or thoughts on how to transport a bike that long, it’s my only major concern?
@Propelbikes
@Propelbikes 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like fun! Transporting it can be a little challenging. I’ve seen some racks in the past, but I think the move is a roof rack. I’ll have to research it but there’s one which allows you to pivot the rack off the roof then move it back once the bike is loaded. I’m in CA until Wednesday, but we can figure something out

I use an Enviolo City 380. Everyone knows all the reasons it's great. Although I will say the "infinite gears" cvt aspect is so massively oversold, I couldn't emphasize more about how unimportant this is. Gear spacing on most all other systems is just fine, and having actual gear numbers is nice. But I cannot respect Enviolo as a company for refusing to publish their efficiency numbers (per wikipedia article reference at least). They know it's BAD even compared to other IGHs - but I guess they do win on durability and basically no maintenance.

No Helmets?
@kippywylie
@kippywylie 2 жыл бұрын
I'm seeing too much of this on Chris's videos. Does he know that in some areas of the US there is movement away from road biking altogether because of so many car vs bike crashes. My wife was hit in the bike lane on her ebike last year.... No helmet.... Unconscious for 8 minutes, 2 nights in hospital, months of concussion recovery. Now she is %100 all helmet always. The US is NOT Holland, maybe if we all lived in NYC it would be a different story, but out here in Tacoma Washington the automobile owns all pavement and we are a distraction. And.... Try pleading your case in a liability claim after the cyclist was unconscious at the scene. At that point the only "witness" to the crash is the car driver. My wife was goofy for many weeks and has zero recollection of the crash event.
