Based on personal experience, I see a lot more accidents involving rental cars nowadays. The 10k excess is consider low for non frequent drivers. It should be reviewed higher to 15 or 20k. This is to keep them off road or to ensure they are much much more careful when driving. But at the same time, if the driver have gain enough experience driving frequently and accident free for a period of time, the excess should also come down significantly. 10k is considered ridiculous if you have previously owned a car and converted to rental.

The real value of private hire or taxi is the outsourcing of liability to a 3rd party. With rental car, if you do meet in an accident or damage the car, the excess or repair invoice will come to you since you were the one who was commandeering the vehicle during the incident. With private hire taxi, you are covered by ComfortDelgro or the company’s insurance if something happens, as they are obliged to have certain liability insurance policies to operate legally in the country. And it should go without saying that since you were not the one driving the vehicle, you would not be liable for anything that happens in most cases. Yes, it’s marginally more expensive, but the margin between is really just used to pay the driver for his time and effort and for the company to cover you with insurance

The only thing that I try car sharing platform is to test different cars before buying one. From japanese to korean to continental cars. Diesel to petrol to electric vehicles. Always mindful not to get into accidents when on trial.

clearly you dont drive to town for work. Town parking easily is $30-40/day Not to mentioned, risk of losing 10-20k from having accident when driving rental car, risk is not worth the reward
