Good blind. I typically get red berry notes from my 107 and tea notes from my Four Roses SB. I prefer the 107.

Huge fan of the 4R! Every single store I visit has it on the shelf too which makes it a huge winner for me. 107 I only see at museums asking museum prices. Cheers and great review!

The only caveat I would add. Some of the 4R SBs are extraordinary, some are good. None are bad. You know what you're getting with Weller.

This is true. Batch vs single barrel can always be a gamble. Most of the Four Roses single barrels we’ve tried have all been pretty cherry forward but some can get minty or herbal.

I will have to try this blind someday. I love both bottles. That said, Weller 107 is definitely over-rated (and I'm very grateful to have found mine at msrp) and Four Roses SiB and Four Roses small batch select (imo) are severely under-rated bottles. Cheers!

Hard to get Four Roses SiB in BC, Canada, but had a relative bring it up from California. HOT DAMN! If I could get it locally, I would always have a bottle of that sitting on my shelf. Nothing that utterly blows me away but everything it does, it does right. Absolutely delicious!

What I like about Four Roses is my ability to test some variables. Even though the standard off the shelf single barrel is always the same proof, yeast and mashbill, you get to know the side of the warehouse and the tier. I've tried enough of single barrels to know that I prefer tier 1 barrels. Because of this, I usually only drink bottles from tier 1 and I feel like I get a just ok bottle much less often than I do with something like Kentucky Spirit or Henry McKenna. With the other distilleries there are so many floors in the warehouses, it would take a lifetime to taste enough to know if you preferred a specific location. I'm not 100% certain that tier one would be my favorite the majority of the time, I don't know how many bottles I'd have to try to make a real conclusion. I do also try to figure out which mashbill is my favorite. So far OESO and OESV are the front runners, but I know I'll never get to taste enough to make a real conclusion. It's fun to try though.

Recently, at a bar, I tasted Four Roses single barrel vs. Blanton's. Four Roses easily won that match-up. The same bar has Antique 107, but it is a barrel pick, so it might be a bit different from the standard version. Maybe the next time I visit that bar, I should try Four Roses single barrel vs. Weller Antique 107 and see what happens. It is nice that Four Roses performs so well against hyped-up, hard-to-find bourbons, since it is inexpensive and very easy to find. Four Roses small batch select is good too.

I like Four Roses. The yellow label is good and the small batch is even better. I'm currently in my very first bottle of Four Roses single barrel, and I honestly prefer the small batch. Of course a different bottle, from a different barrel, might be better. 🙂

The 100 proofer here has been $40 for ages in our market (Nashville, TN). Conversely the Small Batch Select seems to be a lot more here than elsewhere (almost $75).

I generally like 4R, and I REALLY like that it is readily available just about everywhere for very reasonable prices. I just wish I could find OWA107 in my area AT ALL to compare! It's not like I live the boonies where nothing shows up, but the taters always beat me to what seems to be the 5 bottles of OWA that land here twice a year. Is it too much to ask for just one...? Nice work Erin picking up the wheated mashbill funk - LEVEL UP!

I would never buy Weller on principle
