I just imagine two players in the distance watching an entire building crawl across the desert seeing splitsies rover come into view. "That's gotta be the best damn pirate I've ever seen." "So it would seem..." Side thought. I don't suppose it would be possible to build or find small or large grid grinders? I'm not exactly sure what blocks you can't build but I know it's most of them. Was thinking you could build a grinder pit for dropping wrecks into once you're done picking specific blocks off them.
@Zarder108 ай бұрын
Grinders can be built! how ever grinder pits tend to fling grids around alot
@Kodasa_Sinclair8 ай бұрын
@Zarder10 would it fling the grid around if you had it attached to a secure system? Say a large gantry arm or something that locks onto it at one or multiple points from the top and holds it secure as you lower the grid into the grinders? It wouldn't need huge amounts of stress points for manipulation like a crane arm. I'm just spit ballin. It's been a long time since I played SE, and I'm definitely not sure what the physics are like these days. Could be it's just too complicated or unsafe.
@roadtrain_8 ай бұрын
@@Kodasa_Sinclair IMO safest way to do it is make a hydraulic press style grinder pit. Pit at the bottom, and at the top a 'lid' that pushes down via piston with mag plates. Adjust the maximum length to be JUST above where grinders can reach and voila you have a 'safe' grinder pit... until a friend trolls you and turns it on whilst you're inside doing something. For bonus points: Build glass right across the grinder pit so blocks don't get stuck inbetween grinders.
@Kodasa_Sinclair8 ай бұрын
@roadtrain_ I guess the real question now is would that be viable and worthwhile on a world like this? It'd certainly make rapid scrapping of the wrecks easier, and it would definitely win the rule of cool and fit thematically. I've been playing with this mod for a bit and I always grab everything! Small batteries? Chuck them on my rover. Railings and scaffolding? Grab all the small steel tubes that you could ever want! I've been building spare tyres and strapping them to the side of my rover to make sure I have extra wheels when needed, sticking merge blocks all over and even installed an armoury locker so I can loot any guns and ammo without taking up valuable storage space. My inner loot goblin is very satisfied. Oh, and if you ever need to shove something heavy, pick up a block with grabby hands and walk it into the object and you can even move a parked rover. Just like Skyrim and Fallout physics.

Small battery charging idea. Large grid rotor facing horizontally with small head attached. Spokes on the small head (example 4) at 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock positions with small merge block on. All positioned so the "spoke" facing straight down is level with the ground. Each small battery being attached has also a merge block. This configuration will then allow you to drag small batteries and attach to charge them and then rotate the rotor round (90 degrees in this example perhaps with a button press) to the next spoke to be able to add a 2nd, 3rd 4th. Easier ways to charge batteries but could look cool as a battery charging station.
@hippyhappyhippo8 ай бұрын

I dont know if someone wrote it already or if you know but im gonna write it anyway. To perfectly hack a large grid battery you need a tier one grinder (the one with the one thingy upgrade sign). Than you just grind the steelplates away so that you have all twenty construction components in it (you have to fill them back up). you should now grind 5 construction components per tick. The tick for the last 5 construction components will grind all the computers perfectly away without losing a cingle cell. I hope this is understandable as one can see english is not my motherlanguage😅. Anyway love the series and thank you for making it! ps: i just randomely got it right while playing your scenario. An idea for your pallets, and a way to charge small batteries. 5x5 grid small blocks, about 2 blocks high. Underside can just be a row at the front and back for your forklift to grab, and you can merge block as needed. for merging or locking to a grid you can just have some floor panels and an associated light for working out what does what, or use the button panel for blocks of 4. For things that want power, you can add small connectors to the back to connect to the base, or if you wanna be real fancy, have a small grid storage system using connectors to lift and store special pallets on the one wall (no need to make it too big, just a row with a lift and place piston array) that way you can store a few H2 engines, and drain/fill H2 tanks whilst charging up a few battery pallets ready for trade.

When I found one, I made a GPS Mark there and flew back home to bring my Transporter to that Point. As "Landing Gears" I only used normal Steel Blocks, and made Landing forks like on a real helicopter. Sure, you have to connect them with Magnet Plates, if you like to take it with you on a Mobile Base, but mostly you can let it stand around and it won't get in motion on it's own... at least not if you deactivate the Atmo Engines and set the Batterys on Recharge if not needed. ^^

I think for me that's true of a lot of games, slow them down enough and it'll give you enough time to find the fun if it's there, if it's not, you'll feel that grind and lose interest anyway

@@Splitsie Your videos inspired me, and I'm giving the game another try. However I'm currently cursing your name, because it's impossible to keep the converted-pod-to-mining-ship upright! I just want one good mining trip to the cobalt and then I'm scrapping this damn thing

Gonna be real... I'll be using that cabin design for the next time dabble in survival. that cabin looks cozy AF!

splitsie, if you use the plugin loader, there is a plugin that removes the forced camera. it might make using your crane for picking up large things a bit easier

This is such a wonderful series, it feels so improvised in the best way possible, the slow progress makes every single step seem like something special. It is wonderful indeed. Thank you for the entertainment, sir.

Turn the helicopter into your flyer an "Air crane" it is a transport chopper after all. See if you can fit a small grip winch in the centre that you can raise and lower to lift things and pull stuff closer to the centre of mass. I had a similar transport vessel a long time ago it had a winch in rhe centre that would pull stuff into a landing gear to lock it down and prevent things swaying.

I really hope SE2 will have large grids be tilable, so you can put 4 decor things on one large grid block for example without them beeing subgrids. Soo many possibilities
@toastymctoastface75328 ай бұрын
you need to fix up that helicopter. It would be great for scouting, far better then your current vehicles. If you see small buildings, land the helicpoter and put the goodies on magplates inside. And for bigger buildings, with stuff like large grid cargo containers, you can simply carry it out slung on your underbelly, like what the chinook does irl.

You should add some Hydraulics Crane Support to get some stability. Or maybe some ballast (batteries?) on a piston in order to create a counter weight that you can push out when lifting.

Too bad we did not get to see that flip. Oh and i tried out that idea with a box on the rover to put small stuff in. It worked astonishingly well. So far nothing has even taken damage. Though that is in single player so no clue if it works as well on the server.

An outrigger on your crane may have helped you lift that building without tiping making it easier to build the wheels

It's pretty awesome to see how people's designs have been made. They all look pretty unique, and far more complex than the pickup truck I found in my solo run and fixed up (Doubt they can go 120m/s across the dunes though)

I do find it fun seeing the different ways people approach the same sorts of problems, there's a lot less convergence than you might expect :D

I'd like to see a scrap survival like this on Argus with the water mod. Building boats to raid the coastline, capturing abandoned boats and dragging them ashore to build a better boat or amphibian vehicle . It'd be a lot of work to put it together, even for solo play, but it would give a little of that space feeling before making it into space properly.

If I ever do a series with the water mod, I think there's a high chance I'll have made a scrapyard mod to use for it as I think having to make cranes work in that environment will be a lot of fun :)

Don't know if anybody said it but compass shows the direction your vehicle is facing when you are in the vehicle, Even if you look at the blink it still shows it as such.

Very good episode. I love all the vehicles and loot level in this episode. Specially that Chinook helicopter. Would be awesome with 6 o 4 wheels (not too big), attached to the side pontoons. Just an idea. I'm excited for the next ep. Great job, Splitsie!

Is it just me or does anyone else have the intro music remind them of Firefly for some reason lol Also, got say, listening to you basically giggling your way home with the building was hysterical and a great way to start a Sunday. Thank you, I needed that.
