Honestly, as long as nothing got smashed by a tree or was energized at the time of getting wet, they'll probably be fine. He does have a lot of boxes and things however but at the end of the day that's just cardboard. The hardware is what counts

@harvyt257Ай бұрын
@haiw72j you can drop computers right into the bathtub as long as they aren't on and you dry them throughly, they'll be fine. The boxes, on the other hand.... yeah. Now that reports say the deathtoll could pass 600, I feel a little bad crying over stuff, but if my collection got destroyed, I'd have to be on suicide watch.
@ZeOHKayАй бұрын
@@harvyt257 IIRC, his recent updates say that, while it wasn't completely destroyed, a big chunk of his tech collection has still been compromised due to the rain. Luckily, his big box game collection was on the other side of his house when it all happened, so that's completely intact.

Seeing the videos after Helene, it triggered all my Katrina memories. I too survived a catastrophic storm, one that devastated my community and communities for miles around. The flood waters, buildings damaged by falling trees, homes uprooted off their foundations . . . The damage is mental as well as physical. You lose your sense of safety, you're overwhelmed by the scale of loss, things that were simple become an epic. Do what you can to help, be there for these people, be kind to them. It matters

Thank you for posting this video, as many of us would have had no idea that this had happened to him otherwise. Also, to those subscribing to him on Patreon, you have the option to select not to receive the mailed benefits of the membership, as I'm sure he's not going to be able to send you out anything anytime soon. Selecting that option also ensures that he gets to keep all of the money that you're sending him, minus Patreon's cut; He doesn't have to worry about sending you a floppy disk that he may not have any of anymore.

Well said Jeff. I joined Clint's Patreon today with a view of probably staying on for a couple of months (so thanks for saying that's a legit thing to do!), but if we all do that then it's a tiny way to help out, same as the community did when Mark Fixes Stuff's entire collection was destroyed in a house fire.

I was part of this. I was lucky to not have too much damage. literally down the road a mcdonalds sign was ruined, and there's tree debris everywhere. I was super lucky that the only damage was that a tree branch put a hairline crack in the windshield of my car. also got super unlucky in that my car had just developed an interior leak that's not an easy or cheap fix. thankfully I had managed to tape the AC fresh air intake with duck tape vent before it became an issue. duck tape my savior.

My apartment caught fire back in May. My apartment was spared from the fire, but the water damage and smoke damage was extensive. If there's one thing that I learned through the experience, it's that it's just stuff. Whether sentimental, valuable, useful. It's all just stuff.

@@JeffGeerling Dealing with the insurance claim was mind-numbing, yes. But the important part is that everyone in the building made it out safe, including pets.
