I really like this down to earth channel! As a Finnish person, I find it difficult to relate to "american minimalism" and feel like most of the channels don't really know the true meaning of the word frugal :D

I find that minimalism and frugality are two different things. Minimalism is a lifestyle but also a trend in interior design, minimalists are not necessarily people living on low income, frugality is applied more to finances and how you can live on a low budget. Idk if I explained correctly what I meant☺️

This channel it's a breath of fresh air, I'm so glad I found it, often I watch American minimalist (because there's a shortage of European/African youtubers that are minimalist) but I have to say, as someone living in Europe it hard to relate to American minimalism, everything is still over the top. Hi Ana, I am a minimalist by necessity, I guess, because I live in a small house which I love, and I have to be careful to not overfill it. When something comes in, very often something must go out! Almost all of my clothes are thrifted. I find that I appreciate my personal things so much more when I only have a few of them.

I am from the USA and also air-dry my clothes . I live in an apartment and airdrying my clean laundry saves money on my electric bill.I cut my own hair, color it, and give myself home perms. I also live in an area where many apartment dwellers throw away good "stuff". Last night at my apartment dumpster I found a working vacuum cleaner. Last summer I found a working 40 inch TV there on which I have been watching your videos. I pay cash (or I don't buy.). My mother, who grew up on a farm during the depression of the 1920's taught me a lot about being frugal. I am old now, but was so blessed to learn from her how to survive. Now I am a widow and very grateful that I watched how she survived. She made all our clothes, cooked, and cleaned. (On the farm she even made her bed's mattress as did all her neighbors.). She always said, "A penny saved is a penny earned." And more advice from her, "Save money for a rainy day." Thank God, for her advice. From Texas, thank you for your video. I appreciate learning about your life.

When I retired three years ago, I decided to let my hair go silver. It was an awkward process but it has saved me a lot of money! (I get a lot of compliments). I have bought very few new clothes; I wear very casual clothes; workout pants serve me all the time and they are washable. Prices where I live are also going up and I look at the flyers from the market before I go shopping.

Hi, I've been thinking a lot lately about how I'm not able to live up to western standards (even minimalistic) and it started to make me feel a bit sad. Thank you for being so down to earth and sharing your lifestyle with us. Your videos make me remember how my parents would always say that only rich people can afford low quality clothing and shoes. They would always make me change into some "at home clothing" when back from school so that clothes lasted longer. I always try to fix my clothes whenever there's a hole too. I'm glad there's more of us :)

Another really interesting video Ana 👏🏻. We are very similar in many ways. I gave up my car a few years ago as the public transport in my area is excellent and of course it’s better for the environment. I air dry my clothes too by putting them on coat hangers on a rail I installed over my bath, that way I have almost stopped having to do any ironing either 🎉. I buy generic non brand foods when I can, and also medicines and skin care which is so much cheaper. I go to the “reduced” section of my local supermarket where they have half price food because it has to be eaten on the same day and I cut my own hair. When I need to buy clothes or kitchen equipment my first stop is one of the many charity shops, it’s cheaper and again better for the environment, I got a beautiful winter coat last week that looked as though it had never been worn and it cost me £12 instead of around £70-80! I love hearing about the things others do to economise (as long as they are practical ideas, which yours are). 😊💛💐
@anagoldberg2 жыл бұрын
So good to see you here again, my friend! 🤗 Haha, I also often use hangers for my shirts because I HATE ironing and don't have a proper iron anyway😄And the "reduced" supermarket section is my go-to as well! Hi, Ana, thank you for sharing! I do almost the same like you, not really to save money but because I don’t need most of the most wanted things. I’m not interested in wearing uncomfortable clothes or shoes, that’s why I can go outside even if the weather is dull. I try to support fair clothes companies and my clothes are partly very old. I make a lot of things myself, almost everybody of my family and friends has socks, hats, scarfs, gloves from me and every baby will be welcomed by a set of woolen clothes. If you design and create things yourself, you’ll repair them, I’m sure… I’ve ONE GUILTY pleasure, too…my small old car 🚙. During my whole job time I used busses, trams and subway, but now I’m older, and I like to support young families with babysitting, I like to explore my sourrounding, going to paint classes or meetings and I allow myself this support. We always had a car, mostly used by my husband. After his retirement he’s even more active as an ice speed skater (competitions in Russia, too!), so we decided that I’ve a car on my own. We’ve a gym in our living room😂 and in the basement. The family kids love to do 'sports' immediately when they arrive, of course they like my spinning wheel as well… I don’t have problems in public if it’s a cosy atmosphere, like in YOGA classes, I even can feel more energy sometimes, or like in painting meetings, we're inspirations for each other. But I’m very sensitive for 'bad vibes' and disappear at once, if I feel them and if I can. I’m a SILVER HEAD since it became difficult to go to the hairdresser and I can’t believe how many compliments I get since then. Haha: all the money I COULD have saved! Thank you for the snowy views, I enjoyed the snow men! If we have snow, I go around and make little snow fairies and women wherever I go… to entertain the neighborhood and the children and to give them ideas, that snowmen can be very different… Stay warm, healthy and happy and share more about your daily life and thoughts. Love from far away, Monika❣️

Oh la la, another à propos video :) I do save money in so many ways, making my own cosmetics, lotions, soap, laundry detergents, etc. I ask my mom to keep the little remains of the soap bars, and when she has a certain amount, i use it to make another soap bar. But the biggest game changer for me is a place here, it's like a food bank but it's not. They are fighting against food waste. It's a socially engaged group that goes to all the grocery stores here and pick up the unsold, close to the expiring date or damaged items. And it's for free to anyone, no questions asked. The office has like 7 fridges, and it's self served. Bakeries are giving too, groceries, farmers, and even ordinary people who want to share. It's such a great place, i get plenty of vegan food there, they're all perfectly fine, there's often tofu, plant milk and stuff i can't afford, because the health store ( that i used to work for) also gives their unsold items. And that health store sells expensive organic food.... I never buy there anymore. So it's a bag of surprises, you never know what's gonna be there:) You open the fridges and take whatever you want, only what you need, so everyone gets something. Still, there are groceries who prefer to dump perfectly fine items in the trash instead of giving it. We see pictures of that sometimes, taken by dumpster divers ( those who go right into the bins of grocery stores after they close to forage perfectly fine items) and it's a complete shame. Other than food, i walk or take the bus, i save on cellphones because i do not have one. I have a landline only. I save on cable tv, don't have it. I save on books because i use the library only. And i buy my grains in bulk. I also stopped buying organic ( that was hard for me) cause i can't afford it anymore. I wash it all with vinegar and it works fine. I'm sure there's many other ways i'm saving but i am already writing too much AGAIN lol. Au revoir!

One of the restaurants in town has a free book stand in the bathroom, -- I am OK with it. Library books can be very dirty, and people handle those happily. I'm the third owner of a sweater that's been handed around, this will be it's last season, I may take it apart and knit something else with it, because it is unravelling, no matter what I do. My hair is long so the transition was long but it looks nice. I also watched lots of videos of people who transitioned to gray and I loved how they looked. Or you can leave a big part gray and colour a stripe or two to a funky colour like purple, bourdoux, orange etc

Ana, I LOVE your channel! (Like everyone else!!) I get so calm when I listen to you. I love the details of making things and 'making-do'. There is so much creativity involved when we have less, and it is ao much more worthwhile and pleasurable. (Oh! By the way... International Cat Language: Stick with String).

I would love to see videos on frugal, plant-based Russian recipes, and how to do collage or simple creative art projects. Thanks! ❤

You are such a fresh air 🙂 I am latvian a and our understanding of meaning "frugal life" is really similar to yours because of similar background. This is why I understand you really well. So - I subscribed to Your channel and I am now waiting for Your's new videos. Maybe there will be a video more about your plant based diet? I am interested because of similar situationa as well. For example - long and cold winters. How you are dealing with this. And - do You buy any foreign products or you use only locals? I find to live all winter only on locals could be really chalenging. 🤔 But I also dont want to support long distance food transportation because of the environment.

Hi, my friend! Aww, cheers to Latvia! 🤗 Thank you so much for being here❤ And for your suggestion! Yep, it's a bit of a struggle to be plant-based here. I try to use as many local products as I can, but not always. I'm fortunate to live near the Altai region which is the main supplier of all kinds of cereals and legumes. I cook a lot of soups and stews, lentil patties, potatoes, porridges. It will be fun to make a more detailed video. 🌸

I enjoy so much your videos. You are such a talented person! I enjoyed watching the kitty play; he is such a darling cat. I glad you have him. A pet can bring so much joy one's life. Do you make any New year's Resolutions? I write a long list every New Year, mostly about self improvement. I know l am not going to get done every thing on the list, but it will keep me from procrastinating. I keep the list on the friged door so I can see it every day. Warm hugs from Florida.

I live in a 30 square metre, off grid cabin in New Zealand. Having a dog, I walk through the forest for miles for exercise (and gathering wild edibles) and only go into town once a week for 'essentials' shopping. I am retired so don't need to commute and try to grow all my own veggies plus have chooks. I've embraced my grey hair and it is way past my shoulders now - but I am 66 yrs old so can understand why you may want to colour your hair. By the way, I Love your channel Ana :)

And I meant to say, I used to be very self-conscious attending yoga classes when I was younger, in spite of the fact that it's not meant to be competitive! I restarted classes in my mid 40s, after a serious illness. I could barely carry the equipment, let alone hold the poses at my first class. But the upside of this was that it completely liberated me from caring what other people thought about my performance, as I was so weak I was simply not in the running. I became much, much stronger over time, thankfully. I think I also matured and realised that no-one really cares what I look like, they are too busy worrying about themselves!

Your videos are so relatable. I live in the UK, am self employed and work from home - the big difference in monthly income and expensive software is universal! I also cook from scratch, walk/take public transport, workout and do self-care at home, never go to dry cleaners etc. Good luck with your channel, it's really interesting and enjoyable. I've only ever been to St Petersburg, so it's nice to see 'real' Russia.

Your videos are very inspiring! Since moving to my hometown I started saving money on transportation too because it's a very small town and I can get everywhere on foot :)). And it's the same for me, I use walking as a form of meditation and for recharging my batteries. Indeed, food has gotten so expensive, feels like it's getting harder and harder to purchase good quality produce at a fair price. I wish I could save more money on that but I order food frequently. It's also for saving myself time when work and life gets busier. I am thinking of doing a one month minimalist challenge for myself in January and see where I can fix stuff. Sometimes I feel suffocated in my own house, feels like I have too many possessions even though I am not a huge spender. I love going to thrift stores and getting vintage kitchen and decor items, that's a guilty pleasure, but that way I know I have unique and interesting pieces. Sorry for such a long comment and thank you for this awesome video! ^_^
@anagoldberg2 жыл бұрын
Love your sweet and thoughtful comments! 😍 And it will be great to know how your one-month minimalist challenge will go if you decide to have it. Oh, kitchen decor.... Love it too! Even just looking and touching, it gives me such a comforting feeling. Thank you for being here with me! 🤗

Really agree regards the gym, but I don't need any special weight equipment. Loads online and you can do it all in your pajamas if you want, although may get sweaty. I also love the mixed dishes and also deep colours. So smart to good to buy good quality and mend, although I find it tricky with socks...but keep them as rags or patches. I also relate to dying hair, although much older than you, I gave up trying to dye with my grey hair with amoniak free. Felt ready to go fully salt and pepper grey. Just cutting hair is expensive here in Sweden. Thanks for the motivation. Hej då just nu.
