Obi: Control your insolence. The count is concentrating! 😏 Anakin:😏 Priceless🤣

Amusing as that scene was, those two episodes make no sense as they can use the Force and could have used it to remove the bindings since it is shown the bindings don't impair the use of the Force. It's poorly written just to put the heroes and villains into a situation to work together. It also makes no sense at the end for the Jedi to say that the pirates didn't do anything to them...since they killed a Senator sent to bargain for their release...which is never even addressed. The CW cartoon has some good moments...but it also has some really badly written and nonsensical ones too, that pair of episodes is certainly in the lesser camp.

Almost couldnt believe how short this battle really was until I revisited it last year. I love your take on how the emperors plan was to use anakin as a vessel until mustafar happened, makes VI more cohesive thinking that the emperor wanted Luke for his vessel and the same for IX with Rey/Ben having failed with Anakin and Luke. Makes you wonder why he never tried to turn Leia..?
@kungolaf44994 жыл бұрын
He never knew about Leia. Vader just learned that Luke had a possibly force sensitive twin sister on the Second Death Star. If that was news to Vader, Palpatine must have not known either. Considering that Palpatine and Leia cross paths many times, even in Canon book "Princess" where Palpatine doesn't realize she is force sensitive. Yet she feels "cold" around Vader but immensely cold around Palpatine.

for a duel this is actually a pretty long fight. the mustafar fight is almost comedically long, and the duel of the fates is long because Maul is drawing Qui-Gon into an area where hes disadvantaged and tired

I always love the bit after this duel when Palpatine tries to convince Anakin to leave Obi-Wan behind. Anakin replies that Obi-Wan’s fate will be the same as theirs. Seeing as all three eventually perished on Death Stars, this line always gives me a chuckle. The novelization made the scene much more powerful. I wish the movie was as superb as the novel. Aesthetically speaking, I wished Anakin kept Dooku's lightsaber as a side arm. So when he intervened the confrontation between Mace Windu and Palpatine, he would draw Dooku's lightsaber to severe Mace's arm, and for the rest of the movie, he is using Dooku's lightsaber to carry out Order 66, execution of the Separatists, and his duel on Mustafar.
@lapplandkun92734 жыл бұрын
that wouldn't make sense in the context of the perspective orders, relatively speaking. If anakin kept dooku's saber, then obi wan would have noticed, informed the jedi council, and the jedi council would likely have ordered anakin to hand dooku's saber over to them, because dooku was a sith lord and anakin was a jedi. He would have no use for a sith lightsaber

I feel like Dooku could've been a greater Lord Of The Sith than Palpatine was. While Palpatine was more powerful, he was also more ruthless. Dooku knew when a less violent solution would've been better, while Palpatine would prefer to make an example out of more stubborn opposition.

@@ATATChat Well, Dooku wasn't too good at choosing apprentices. Ventress was a good choice, but Dooku should've faked her death instead of actually trying to kill her. Savage was powerful physically, but far to weak in the force or in tactical decision making to be a Sith Lord. And Krell couldn't even take out a few clone.
@thewarner21394 жыл бұрын
@@ATATChat A good analysis but you made a severe error. Nothing in either continuity indicates Palpatine interfered with the fight. To say otherwise is baseless and personal speculation. Nothing in the film or the novel, the latter of which only applies to legends anyway, which is largely where you pulled your info from and use for this breakdown. And as the current lore has shown, Palpatine wouldn't want to taint Anakin's victory, as he was only interested in having the most powerful apprentice by his side. Your view that Kenobi could have taken Dooku is accurate with regards to canon, as he is stated to be evenly matched with Anakin in RotS. Both of them individually were already at Dooku's level, so if he didn't separate them, he knew he wouldn't be able to keep up like he did throughout TCW.

While I hate how weak obi wan seems in this fight and the goofy moment of the catwalk pinning him down, this duel is pretty great. One shot I love is anakin right as he goes dark. We see his angry expression as he swings downwards from above his head onto dooku, releasing a flurry of attacks that dooku can't handle. Eventually anakin overpowers dooku and has him right where palpatine wants him. The decapitation is gruesome and awesome. Also dew it.
@lapplandkun92734 жыл бұрын
how was obi wan weak? Is it because he was force choked and rag-dolled by dooku in the climax of the duel? Obi wan had his force defenses breached multiple times if you actually watched the clone wars show. Was thrown with the force by maul, force choked by ventress, and dooku was actually one of the most powerful force wielders of his era, behind Palpatine and yoda. It made sense dooku choked obi wan. If you think somebody is made weak because his or her opponent was also strong, then you got it all wrong

Fun fact: In the script, when Dooku was at Anakin's mercy, he was supposed to say "Chancellor! Protect me!" But Christopher Lee felt that line sounded too corny and thought it wasn't in Dooku's character to beg for his life. As such, he felt it would be better if Dooku was in too much shock (over the loss of his hands) to say anything at all and let his face show the fear for his life.

Star Wars had always operated reliably under a fundamental, basic formula. A very particular, consistent combination of thematic elements and tropes continuously colored and enhanced by each new installment in the franchise. It became a kind of, "comfort zone," it felt like we were safe, like we were Home. Take any of those fundamental elements away and you're suddenly thrown into an uncomfortably overwhelming sense of exposure and vulnerability. Change or alter the established formula and it just doesn't feel like our trusty Star Wars anymore. The once maligned Prequels made efforts to distinguish themselves a little from the preceding films, each one contributing its own mysterious Planets and epic locations, stunning environments and advanced technology, all populated with their own unique creatures, inventive Droids, and inspired characters and their designs, while strictly adhering consistently to those same foundational standards. But beyond that, the prequels had entire new vehicle and Starship designs of their own, in addition to the Clone and Droid Armies and the intriguing depth of the conflict for which they were created, building significantly upon that essential Star Wars foundation. The sequel films don't even share a property line, let alone a foundation, with the Star Wars that we call, "Home." Getting Ian Mcdiarmid to reprise his role in service to the story about his rise to power from Senator to Supreme Chancellor and ultimately becoming the Evil Galactic Emperor we all knew so well from our childhoods was arguably a necessity for that particular set of installments. Getting a chance to witness as Palpatine orchestrated the primary, overarching conflict in the Galaxy, masterfully driving the events with expert precision and patience behind the motivations of all the main characters, all while simultaneously grooming the so-called "chosen one," Anakin Skywalker, largely believed to have been the most powerful Jedi ever, and who had been prophesized to be the Jedi who would bring the Force back into balance, to choose the Dark Side becoming Palpatine's Sith apprentice and Imperial enforcer, all from the shadows RIGHT under the nose of the Jedi counsel, was an indispensable aspect of the prequel trilogy, that any subsequent stories would be hard-pressed to emulate. His appearance in the Rise of Skywalker was unfortunately hindered by its inexplicability and subsequent execution. It's like installing a state-of-the-art security system on an empty hunting shanty way back in the woods that you and some buddies slapped together with recycled pallets over a weekend lol like trying to increase the value of the rusty old station wagon that's been broken down in the back yard with a couple thousand dollar paint job. No amount of "Palpatine-brand Bondo," is going to mitigate the damage to the structural integrity caused by the corrosive effects of such inadequate, lazy, or just uninspired storytelling. What should have been celebrated by the fandom for representing a return to form and substance became one of the Saga's biggest points of contention, making it one of the more devastating of the many missed opportunities. Coupled with the obvious lack of any clear vision, or attempts at cohesively tying the three films together in any semblance of overarching narrative makes the Star Wars sequel trilogy a disappointing tragedy more than anything else, and that's even if the delicate wisps of a tether to the source material wasn't somehow doomed to remain tenuous. Being so apparently devoid of even the most basic, fundamental creative concepts, presented to us with mostly re-used or derivative vehicle and Starship designs, and the reliance on so many long-existing aesthetic elements showing little to no evidence that even any attempts at considering making potential improvements speaks volumes about the forces motivating the entire endeavor. When remembering the reactions people had to the Prequels, all those years ago, what stands out more than almost anything else, besides the wooden dialogue, is the overabundance of Galactic Politics, which is fairly understandable. But I don't recall anyone not knowing who was in charge, from the Republic to it's transition to an Empire, everyone knew that Coruscant was the Washington D.C. of this story. However unpopular the political themes were, their complete nonexistence makes it virtually unclear to the audience who the powers that be even are. I mean, our only glimpse of the, "New Republic," government in the Force Awakens consists of a few scant seconds of people staring terrified at the sky before being literally, (and figuratively,) obliterated from the story completely by the First Order's TOTALLY original Solar system-destroying Superweapon. It could even be credibly argued that the factors motivating the First Order to seize power in a violent coup were the same feelings of oppression and subjugation that inspired the Rebel Alliance before them. Besides having amassed a fairly sizeable military, the Force Awakens begins with the appearance that the First Order are some totalitarian-inspired, "freedom fighters," struggling under the oppressive weight of the New Republic. Of course, they were actively working towards the overthrow and eventual destruction of the current Galactic government, and a systematic return to Imperial rule, but the inability, or unwillingness, to clarify to the audience the current state of the Galaxy at that macro level further illustrates the contextual inadequacies plaguing this, "Age of Resistance." Despite the many deliberate differences introduced in the prequels, each new addition still managed to maintain that fidelity, in deference to the underlying source material that was established back in the beginning, allowing them each to contribute more color, and an absolute wealth of further meaning and context to the Lore. For these reasons they were all unmistakably, "Star Wars." Even the few less-than satisfied fans could feel, despite their supposed disappointment, how neatly and snug each one comfortably inhabited its place in the wider Saga. Before George Lucas chose to hand Lucasfilm over to Disney in 2012, he had been busy constantly refining and further fleshing out his vast Universe, some of which to the dismay and resentment of thousands of fans, but for every misstep, whether actual or just perceived, he added plenty to his long list of brilliant decisions, as well. Some of the successes, like the Clone Wars series, have continued adding emotional weight and further enrichment of their own, even as Disney continues struggling to find its footing with their recent offerings. These are just some of the few, (long-winded,) reasons this last trilogy doesn't feel like it should qualify as a Star Wars, "sequel," to me. But, I'm not unrealistic about it, at all, and I realize it's what we got, like it or not. An unintended consequence of the Universe becoming so expansive is that the aspects outside my own, personal tastes and preferences have grown right along with it. There's a hollow, empty, and unsatisfying undercurrent that persists beneath the experience of watching the sequel trilogy,. I tried with every atom in my body to force myself to appreciate and enjoy them. I even discovered I had been lying to myself, convinced they had to have been amazing while trying to ignore that incessant emptiness the entire time. For a while there, I was one of those annoying people constantly defending the movies in forums and in KZbin comment sections. Only realizing later that I had been aware of the truth the whole time, i had just buried it deep down beneath the rosy picture I had created to support my denials. It wasn't until I finally sat down and watched them again, in order and as objectively and intellectually honest as possible, that I finally came around to the inevitable conclusion that I could no longer deny what had been gnawing away at me to recognize, accept, and admit. Now, I think I've made peace, and although I know the sequels are okay movies, in their own right. They're all arguably better than the vast majority of recently released movies out there. But, as the conclusion of the long-running, "Skywalker Saga," I had been investing my time and energy in for over four decades now, I cannot say I honestly believe they are equal to their predecessors. I'm not even able to say they're in the right region, let alone the right ballpark. I take absolutely NO pleasure saying I have seen better, more interesting and entertaining fan fiction here, on KZbin. Fortunately, there's still PLENTY of fresh, new Star Wars that exists safely within those parameters, with more and more being created all the time, for fans disillusioned by Disney like me to enjoy. 👍😊

Dooku would have torched Kenobi. Remember, Obi-Wan only held his own against Anakin for two reasons. The first was that their forms cancelled each other out. They are literally the polar opposites of one another with Anakin's relying on parry/counterattack combos and Obi-Wan's specifically designed to master defense and offer almost nothing in the way of attack. Furthermore, Anakin and Obi-Wan had history that Dooku and Obi-Wan didn't have. Anakin and Obi-Wan knew each other intimately--like brothers. They could sense and anticipate each other with near mirror precision. And it is just that history that led to Anakin's defeat: he wanted to prove that he was every bit as good and better than his former master and so fell for the "high ground" trick trying to prove that anything Obi-Wan can do, Anakin can do. Left to play out without Anakin's hubris, Darth Vader would have defeated Obi-Wan on Mustafar.

Possibly! Full Fatt Videos did an AMAZING review of that duel however...it would be fun to step through the mental anguish each one is going through while walking through the duel too.

Really interesting video. However, I completely disagree on your point that Dooku couldn't take down Obi Wan. The novel makes no suggestion that it is anything other than Dooku's very strong power in the dark side that takes him down. Obi Wan has proven several times that his force defences can be breached and Dooku was powerful enough to ragdoll him. Further to this, just because Obi Wan beat Anakin on Mustafaar doesn't mean he was more powerful, the circumstances aligned for him.
@7632ios3 жыл бұрын
Obi and anis MF versions would smash Dooku lol kenobi. At that point anakin was much more powerful than Dooku and kenobi after letting go completely equalled anakin.

I have never seen any piece of lore that says that Palpatine somehow interfered and took out Obi-wan during this fight. The only thing he does is give Anakin verbal encouragement in the script and novelization. The RotS novel clearly states that Kenobi was caught off guard by the speed of Dooku's Force attack. It was all Dooku, no extra help. Kenobi was able to beat Anakin later because his knowledge and skills make him a better match up for him, not that he was superior to Dooku. Having trained Anakin he knew his fighting style intimately, and his Form III was better suited for tanking Anakin's Form V. Add to that Anakin's blind rage at the time and it paints the picture as to why the fight turned out the way it did. Kenobi didn't beat Anakin so much as he survived long enough for Anakin to beat himself.
@thewarner21394 жыл бұрын
There is nothing in either continuity that states Palpatine interfered, so you are correct. He was giving an incorrect view made with personal interpretations. It is important to note that in current canon, Anakin and Obi-Wan are confirmed to be evenly matched throughout RotS. Obi-Wan triumphed on Mustafar through a combination of knowing his opponent, and having more combat and tactical experience to take the high ground, which broke their stalemate.
@Darthpsychonis4 жыл бұрын
@@thewarner2139 Well he said up front that this was just his opinion, which is fine but he literally gives nothing to back up his clam and vaguely suggests it's mentioned in the novel when it isn't. Anakin and Obi-wan are not on the same level. Nic Gillard the stunt coordinator who designed the saber duels in the prequals had a rating system for each character and had Anakin/Vader at a level 9, the same level as Yoda and Sidious while Obi-wan was at a level 8. Kenobi's knowledge of Anakin's style and his defensive form kept him alive until Anakin made a mistake. Instead of focusing his anger, Anakin let it control him and clounded his judgment. Had he kept his mind clear he would not have made such a foolishness mistake. A lot of the duels in Star Wars are as much about the circumstances of the fight and the terrain, as it is the individual person's skill level.
@7632ios3 жыл бұрын
Dooku actually had to cheat to breach Kenobis defense. He says it himself in the novelisation with. He deploys the droids. Otherwise kenobi could have protected himself.

@@7632ios There is no "cheating" in fights to the death. Changing tactics when one is working is the smart thing to do.
@7632ios3 жыл бұрын
@@Darthpsychonis the argument was made that obi couldn’t take Dooku in a 1v1. Which he can esp at the end of ep 3. So no ur wrong we are discussing a specific power of one of the characters not the fight.

I’m curious, you mention a couple of times that Palpatine interfered in the duel. I’m not quite sure I understand. I know that Palpatine kind of grunts a bit, which seems to serve as a cue for Dooku to get Obi-Wan out of the picture, but what’s the other time you were talking about?
@ATATChat4 жыл бұрын
So it seems like in the novel it points out that Palpatine was aiding Dooku noticing his fatigue with Obi, so he does some minor force assists if you will. At least this was my understanding of it.

The other scene I give it to Hayden on is in AotC when Shmi dies, and all the emotions that cross his face. Blame a lot on bad directing and bad script.

@@ATATChat I personally and more of a fan of the precools because it gives context to the originals as well as the fact that as a sociology major in college made it fascinating. I do completely understand why Anakin was the way he was from the whininess to the entitlement to everything but that's a whole Nother conversation that I believe warrants a video of its own because people were way more critical of that in terms of him as a character than they should've been. I feel like they wanted Aniken to be like Vader; when there were two totally different beings that Occupied the body at different places in time.
@danielcooke38004 жыл бұрын
Actually Anakin Skywalker uses form V with offset of form IV - Ataru Form V shien : Anakin's opening stance Designed to ward off blaster bolts. Djem So : Anakin switches his form v in order to redirect Dooku's attacks and overpower him...combined with his secondary form Ataru...which is aggressive and known for using for incorporating martial arts and Force-fuelled attacks. (Yoda uses form IV) Darth Vader is known to incorporate makashi techniques into his lightsaber combat form...his main style remains form V as always...although it was modified to compensate for his cybernetic body.
