Special note: The artifacts I was getting randomly on core load and the one time it dropped to 480p were both the result of the cheap HDMI splitter I used to break out digital audio. So it wasn't the fault of the Noir. Going straight into the capture card or display does not have any problems. Also I apologize for the vertical centering being off in 5x NES scaling, I've updated the text file with the correct vertical position of 45. Cheers!

What's the process for saving game states on ROMs running on the NES core? I've yet to find a way to save and load game states for NES games with the Jailbroken NT Mini Noir. It's super easy with the EverDrive N8 Pro Flash cart but seems impossible with only the game running on the NES core from SD card. Nothing I have tried gets my progress saved. As is, my EverDrive N8 Pro is just as valuable to me as the Mini Nt Noir. Unless there is a way to save progress that I'm overlooking the EverDrive N8 Pro is an absolute must have accessory.

I don't believe there are 'save states' in the Noir. It can save battery saves as long as you back out to the games menu to give the machine as chance to save your battery save. But as for save states, I do believe you need the flashcart for that.

@RedArremer4 жыл бұрын
Did you try one of the integer scale profiles? If so, then the shimmering may be because the game doesn't scroll one pixel at a time, and that will cause shimmering on a digital display. I'll look into it myself and get back to you.
@RedArremer4 жыл бұрын
Okay I checked it out and that's just pattern shimmer rather than pixel error. One way you can confirm is to turn on 'normal' scanlines. if they look nice and even, then you know the shimmer is just pattern artifacts on a digital display.

Any settings advice for people using a Krikzz (Everdrive) N8 Pro? MANY of us use those since you can save at any point, unlike the jailbreak. I'm interested in the expansion audio - I have the USA size cartridge (for nostalgia) and NOT the Famicom N8 Pro. Think I'm limited on the extra audio channels when I use the N8 Pro with the Noir?
@Izquierda4 жыл бұрын
Noir does not take cartridge expansion audio from the NES slot, so you'll need a Famicom version of the N8 Pro, or use the Noir's simulated expansion chips.
@RedArremer4 жыл бұрын
Just turn on expansion audio in the Noir menu and leave the cart audio at default of 45. You will need to use a Famicom N8 or N8 Pro. The N8 Pro's defaults for expansion audio are much closer to a real cart.

@@RedArremer That's what I unfortunately thought. Wasn't going to get the Famicom version as I've never even seen a Famicom cart in-person, and didn't want that unfamiliar form sticking up out of my Noir. I thought the N8 Pro (and the regular non-pro too) used the FPGA to do the extra Japan/Famicom audio channels - even when you used a USA cart on a real NES - all that's needed on your NES is a single resistor added bridging two pins... but I guess that's not possible on the Noir. Oh well, I'm finished going through Japan-only ROM's and only a dozen or two games I would ever want to play (so far at least... it's a big library to go through ;)

@RedArremer4 жыл бұрын
+1 is a safety measure as the manual for the Noir states some displays may have issues with instant data being sent through the HDMI cable. The hard powering off was due to my cheap HDMI splitter causing artifacts (which still happened a couple times anyway). I pinned a notice about that.

So I noticed you said to leave Horizontal Interpolation on due to the settings for the other cores, but aren't these settings core specific? Does the NOIR not save an individual set of settings for each core as far as the Interpolation goes? If not then that seems like a rather poor oversight that is hopefully corrected in a future update, as it very much should save your interpolation settings for each core since you are of course going to be using different aspect ratio settings for each.
@RedArremer4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe I ever said that, but if it came out that way, that wasn't my intention. The Noir does save settings not only on a core basis, but output basis as well. So there are six different settings lists for each core based on output resolution.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
@@RedArremer Ah ok, good to know. At the 5:59 mark you mention leaving Horizontal Interpolation on because you will be needing it for other cores, however if it saves on a core by core basis then there would be no reason to leave it on in that one instance if you don't want to, as it won't affect those other cores anyway.
