I would have to say the word that has the most coverage of the friar throughout the play is supersticious. He believes that he alone could bring peace to Verona, end centuries of feud between the two families, and bring Romeo and Juliet together again even after Romeo was banished. I am currently writing an English Coursework Essay on the friar in Romeo and Juliet and this video was great to get some good quotations from and you explain it very well and in a concise way. Thank you very much!!

Id like to say "self-centred" you have given me a new outlook on the friar and i want to say alot of his actions and advice can have ulterior motives he wants to be a knight in shining armour for the families by helping romeo and juliet however when he fails to do so he ends up trying to run away he tried to take no responsibility for his actions, also from his very first quote about the flower it could also reveal himself to be somewhat duplicitous having a positive medicine exterior but rlly being a poison with his own selfish goals in mind

I think Friar Lawrence would be described as misunderstood. He is prejudged by the Protestant Elizabethan audience only because of his religion. He truly does want to end violence which suggests he could be a pacifist. He is only doing the lesser of two evils by giving Juliet the potion.

I'm not sure what you mean, as that's what I think I'm already doing for R+J (and have already done for AIC and ACC). Could you give me an example of what you mean, please?

Does this complement with the AQA exam board?

I try to make my videos apply to as many exam boards as possible! Given that AQA ask you to write a critical essay that uses quotations, analyses language, form, and structure, and show an understanding of texts and their contexts, I'd say my work here definitely applies to AQA! 😊
