Leslye Headland (born 1980) is an American film and television director, screenwriter, and playwright. She wrote and directed the play and 2012 film Bachelorette and 2015 film Sleeping with Other People. She co-created the Netflix series Russian Doll, along with Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler. She also created the Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte (Which was absolutely terrible, and is a crime against humanity)
Show Description
The Acolyte, also known as Star Wars: The Acolyte, is an American science fiction television series created by Leslye Headland for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise, set at the end of the High Republic era before the events of the Skywalker Saga, and follows a Jedi investigation into a series of crimes.
Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, Margarita Levieva, Lauren Brady, Leah Brady, and Harry Trevaldwyn star in the series. Headland expressed interest in working on the Star Wars franchise by the end of 2019, and was developing a new series for Lucasfilm by April 2020. The title was announced that December. Filming took place in London and at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire from October 2022 to June 2023, with location filming in Wales and Portugal.
The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with its first two episodes. The following six episodes are being released weekly. The series received positive reviews from critics, who praised the cast performances, action sequences, and darker tone, while a few criticisms focused on the quality of character dialogue, logical fallacies, and characterization. (All criticisms minus the fire in space thing are valid)

Then there's Lando Calrissian, who has been charming the Galaxy and the audience since 1980. I don't believe any creator can be held up as "sacred", I am in the camp that Lucas made more than a few mistakes with the prequels. Episode 1 is largely based on a fanfic written by Thomas Knoll (founder of Adobe) and presented to Lucas in the mid 90s when Adobe was contracted to add new digital effects to the 20th Anniversary Editions of the OT (I went to elementary school with the Knoll kids in the 90s and they wouldn't shut up about it). To be fair, there's interviews with Weinstein's other personal assistants that knew what was going on, and just looked the other way. I'm sure like them, she knew what was going on as well, but not only did nothing, she continued to work for him. For The Acolyte, one of the biggest problems (and there are many), is that there's no hero. Who do we root for in this show? Osha and Mae flipped sides so many times, I couldn't keep track of who was who. Not to mention that Torbin AND the wookiee did absolutely nothing wrong. Plus... whyyyyy did the witches all die?? Oh yeah, plot reasons I guess. Either way, the writing feels very much like a first draft script.

Her & everyone else who worked on this show have proven they Lack even the most basic understanding of the source material. This is who is getting hired for these jobs? It feels as if they give zero F*cks about respecting this widely beloved story that they have been given the opportunity to be in charge of? They don't comprehend how much they don't understand Star Wars. So much so that IT HURTS! (They also don't understand anything about quality storytelling/ character building & world building as a whole) Yet these people act like They deserve these positions? They don't just Not grasp Star Wars. They don't understand the creative process as a whole.. There's genuinely talented people out there who haven't gotten a chance to work on projects such as this and I really think it's time those people get the chance to work on these projects. Random Honest question: When it comes to the Acolyte, What is so SPECIAL about Osha and Mea for them to be the Main focus, the Main characters, etc. She has ZERO personality, 0 depth, 0 intricate aspects to her character.. Yet we are supposed to believe All off this is occurring around the twins as the main focus...? She has the personality of a cardboard box. There's so many things that are very wrong with this sad attempt at telling a star wars story.. There's so many issues with this story tho.. None of what they have made actually portraits accurate star wars, accurate jedi, etc. etc. How did this cost $180 million..? It seriously does not make any sense This show comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show. It's so far from Legitimate Star wars movies that it feels as if this whole thing is a big parody.. A very expensive parody..

Watching that finale made me believe that Leslie Headlamp knew what Harvey Weinstein was doing and maybe helped him as well. This show basically made the good guys the bad guys, and vise versa. It tried to justify the point of view of murderers, while making characters that were previously good complicit in the Jedi's crimes. The sith are the heroes of the show. Even leaving aside the absolutely atrocious writing, it's amazing that Disney green lit this. I think Walt would B slap the entire staff and fire everyone if he knew what they were doing now. I'm kinda sad it ended though, it was great comedy.
