Ananias and Sapphira never agreed to give 100% of the money, the bible never specifies why they kept it, much of whats shown in this video simply didn't happen, Sapphira did lie, but like most of us she was put on the spot and most likely panicked, after all her husband didn't lie and was killed anyways. please read the bible acts 4:32 - 5:10 and tell me if am wrong.

@@jump6065 Peter is then lying about that then, the Bible never mentions an agreement of the full amount, you say “ he lead them to believe he would” this is the worst reason to murder people, an assumption made, at best a warning from Peter would have been allot more preferable.

Let's be clear: The issue wasn't that they kept some of the money. The issue was they LIED to Holy Spirit who knows all things. Unfortunately, they didn't know or understand that they were under NO OBLIGATION to give. None. All they had to do was propose in their hearts to give what they freely and joyously wanted to give, give that amount and be blessed. Instead, they lied. Please. All watching this. Prayerfully read the scriptures and ask Holy Spirit what is the lesson to be learned. This was not about the money but the condition and motivation of their hearts. Blessings to all🙏.

The issue is that they were first deceitfully and then untruthful.. They were ORDERED BY GOD to give ALL of their earnings from the selling of their home..and they decided together to keep part of it and to lie. God made an example out of them of how serious it is to lie to God and the HolyGhost.

@joshua james the bible says that the multitude of them that believed were of ONE heart and ONE soul and that's why EVERYONE decided to sell their possessions so that everyone had what they needed. Ananias and Sapphira agreed as well but were deceitful and kept back part of what they sold and lied about it...and were punished by death...God made a very strong example of the two of them for a reason...because people are so quick to commit to God halfheartedly..always want to hold on to things that they shouldn't and only deceive themselves in the end...

After listening to a sermon on Acts 5. There are a lot of different interpretations. Some say they're not believers or Christians. Others say they denounced their faith. My takeaway is Ananias and Sapphira were being a hypocrite. They desire/pretend to look more mature than they actually are. Ananias envies Barnabas who sold his land and gave away the money to the church. Instead of asking God for a generous heart, he instead craved the applause of men and sought glory for himself. This was a reminder for me that we're sinner, we need a savior and grace. Thank you, Jesus!

I read someone’s comment who seems like they really understand this scenario. That if Ananias and Sapphira got away with their deed it would show that 1) Dishonesty is profitable 2) People would think you could truly deceive God. This event set a strict precedent in the early church and warned against trying to purposefully deceive the church or God. (My own personal comment which seems a bit labored in comparison to the above) This whole scenario reminds me of two things. The Exodus/Wanderings sins and also the story of Achan and his sin. I think when God starts new “projects” he is involved in them in very outward and obvious ways. Like the Exodus and Wanderings, and the Taking of the promised land, and in the New Testament the building of the baby church. In the Exodus/Wanderings when the Sabbath was broken or some other major wrongs were committed God acted swiftly, obviously, outwardly and came down strong. And fear would strike the whole camp to never do such things again which would hurt the camp/Gods plans/Gods people. So that a pattern of that sin and destructive disobedience would not develop or be considered an option. Achan in the battle for the promised land also took objects from the city where everything was supposed to be burned in the name of God as a complete shun of their society and evilness. He was dealt with severely, even after confessing, which Anias and Saphira didn’t even do (though Achans sin had caused the deaths of his fellow soldiers and Israelites). In the New Testament the church was just a baby God was developing and so he was with the church in major ways of observable displayed powers and even dealt with people at times like this. It, possibly, is in part to show how serious this new Gospel spreading-church venture and the church’s integrity was, just like in the start of the Exodus and the start of the battle for the promised Land. And also to show that he is not a joke, and messing with him/his people, trying to manipulate them and their serious mission is not a game in the slightest. As hard of a pill as it might be for us to swallow, the message also possibly seems to include -> Do not lie to God, especially the Holy Spirit when it is in your presence and active among you. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on Holy Ground” “Take heed because of him, and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgressions, for my name is in him.”

Please where does it say they were not allowed to keep anything and still a part of the church? It shows they were of one mind and shared what they had with each other freely and voluntarily. What caused the issue with the couple was that they lied, period.
@indchild2002
@indchild2002 3 жыл бұрын
@De Lacey that wasn't the issue, it wasn't that the money wasn't enough. It was because they lied. If they had kept some for themselves and told the truth about it, they would have been fine. See what Peter said to Ananias in Acts 5:2-3 - "But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the land to yourself?" "While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God". So you see, the issue was the lie not the money.

"Ananias & Sapphira sell a piece of property, as the others had done. They show up and they lay an amount of money at the apostles’ feet minus what they had kept back for themselves. The sin is not that they didn’t give everything. In fact, they weren’t commanded to give anything. God didn’t command them to sell their house, sell their land. The selling was voluntary. *The sin was not that they kept back some of the price, that they could sell the land if they wanted and keep some of the price.* They could sell the house and keep some of the price. It is a sin to lie about it. and that’s the hypocrisy. *They had vowed to the Holy Spirit to give everything, and this was a pretense before the congregation and before the apostles while they were secretly holding back some of it.* They wanted spiritual status. They wanted to be elevated. They wanted to be honored and appreciated as others who had done this. They wanted to be thought of as great and godly and generous and sacrificial, but they weren’t willing to give up everything. They just wanted to appear to be giving up everything. It’s not wrong not to give everything you have. It’s not wrong to hang onto your property, to hang onto your house. That’s a choice God allows you to make. The Lord has given us richly all things to enjoy. It’s just wrong to lie. It’s wrong to create an imaginary image of yourself. The Lord is serious about the church. What do we draw out of this? God hates the sins of the saints. They corrupt His church. God hates hypocrisy. God hates lying. God punishes sin. People died in the early church and people died at the Communion table. There was a sin unto death. Purity is critical to the church, and critical to the power of the church and the testimony of the church. Now, we’re not perfect people, but we don’t want to hide hypocrites, and we don’t want to be hypocrites. The Lord was designing a church that non-believers would not want to belong to. The Lord had designed a church that non-believers would not want to belong to because it’s so pursuing purity. It’s a place of judgment on sin. It’s a place of confrontation of sin that we all desire because we have holy affections and divine aspirations, and we want to honor the Christ we love and glorify Him. But it can’t be a place where non-believers are comfortable. None of the rest dared to associate with them. They didn’t have a church growth strategy. They didn’t have any model to follow. The pastoral epistles hadn’t been written yet... " _When Sin Entered the Church part 2_ by John MacArthur I encourage any one to listen to Pastor John MacArthur on the sermon of Ananias & Sapphira and the early church.

Oh Lord, forgive us and increase our faith. We all deserve what Ananias and Sapphira received. Lord, this was a fearful thing to watch the words of Acts 5. Acts 5:1-11 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

If both admit when Peter asked them and confess had kept a part from what they had sold.. does that keep them from the wrath of God? That bestowed upon them? It's an eye opener for us that God is powerful and all knowing, sometimes we have fear of surrending earthly treasures in exchange for the kingdom of God, I myself have thought the same and I forbid to give a little amount to the Church I was being selfish not to give, what happened was all that I saved and kept from working had taken away from me by scammers and I grieved all of that and have thought what I remembered had did to God, from that on.. I repented and I promised to give cheerfully and heartly to the Lord for he knows our hearts and thinking... This is tested based on my experience.. Do not test the power of God... He justifies everything and will judge us accordingly.. Amen !!

In the biblical story; Ananias’s does not say anything, his thoughts are not depicted, he makes no statement, he lays some of his money at Peter’s feet and his reasons for keeping some of his money are not stated. Peter indeed seems to miraculously know Ananias has kept some of his money, Peter gets angry about it and without warrant accuses Ananias of lying to the holy spirit. Peter then, without hesitation seems to miraculously murder Ananias. Not being content with murdering one person, Peter a few hours later, mocks and then murders Sapphira in the same miraculous fashion. Scripture says To blasphemy the Holy Spirit is the ONE Unforgivable sin. This is NOT that sin. The One unpardonable sin is to take the Mark of the Beast. It is a SPIRITUAL Mark that only God can give. They were ignorant of what they had done against God. This is not the unpardonable sin. These two will still go before God on Judgement Day to be weighed in the balance for their sins & their blessings. This was a sin of unbelief, lying and idolatry. They did not worship the BEAST. *** The thing is that they made a covenant to serve the Lord & trust in him for their needs & they did it half-heartedly. They did not have pure intentions or true FAITH to be acceptable apostles for the Lord. **Judas did sell his soul to the Devil for 30 pieces. He KNEW what he was doing when he did it because he became Satan in that moment ( totally possessed by Satan). He didn't struggle to fight off Satan's possession & that IS the One Unpardonable Sin-( Mark of the Beast).

If they were not 100% committed to the cause, but still felt strongly about it, they should have said to Peter that they are donating only part of the amount as they are yet to be fully convinced. Peter would then probably have replied that he will not accept their gift as it was coming from someone who was not fully committed. The couple would then take back their gift and go back home and ponder about the whole situation. This way nobody would have lost their life and perhaps in the future their faith would have fully blossomed for them to donate everything they had. Chances are, though, they would drift away and never come back. That would still be o.k. as they would still be alive.

Ken Albertsen that is the most twisted reading of scripture I have ever heard! 1) murder can never be justified because murder means an unjustified killing. 2) St Peter did not kill anyone. Read it again. He did tell them what the Holy Spirit revealed to him that was going to be their end. 3) how could you possibly believe St Peter could get God to jump through a hoop like a trained dog? God doesn’t take orders from anyone. God does however reveal his will and future actions to people by means of prophecy. Even then, if the people repent, the action he said he would take against them stops. Read the book of Jonah. It is really bizarre that you think God gave the power to kill people with some supernatural force. How did St Peter die? He was crucified by the Romans just as Jesus was. He didn’t then or ever have the power to kill people by some supernatural force. How much time have you spent reading the Bible? I’ve never heard anyone draw such a flawed conclusion from this passage. Have you read the Gospels? Did you read about the rest of Peter’s life?

It's astounding that so many Christians can not only justify the murders of Ananias and Sapphira, but can find joy in it, saying 'Amen' to each other with smiles. St. Peter, using God as his justification, was a double-murderer. .....all for the telling of a small lie. If everyone who lied was killed by the Christian God, there would be no people on Earth.

Just for the record folks this video but more in line with reading with Scripture in Acts 5:3-11. Is very useful in terms of apologetics as Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe the Holy Spirit is God. They believe it's God's "active force" an impersonal force. Also the Holy Spirit is God in Hebrews 3:7-11. God who speaks! As you will need more than one verse to convince them, ultimately it's through pray, that we ask our Lord to guide them. We show love and respect.

I'm not claiming this to be Holy Spirit connected but at one point i was staying in our previous small hut house before standing on wood in water , it was a time the typhoon odette was to landfall, and i remember writing a prayer forming a sigil, at night when i stayed and my family went to the other house for shelter my wife came to fetch me saying i need to go with her as it was safer on the other house, my confidence got ahead of faith and myself and asked her to go as i'm fine, but then some time just staying on our hut house i could hear this wind , scary wind like a whistle of death.. and getting ahead of myself it was kind of me making a response in confidence that somehow it was as if i got to test The Holy Spirit or made an offense in the process, and the immediate reaction i felt after the entire body and soul of me confirmed what i did, it was like a sudden pain in my guts so painful and hard to breathe same time, then this feeling so scary as if i was stripped with everything spiritual i felt inside being so vulnerable as if i was already in a belly of a beast full of negative darkness, but same as with the magician on the other scene of this movie, i repented and admitted of how foolish i was , i never thought my over confidence at that time would really be switched into a confirming death and the experience so scary i was sure i would have died, i was a fool and by feeling, being sorry asking forgiveness, this pain in my guts stopped and i was able to breathe again , i stood up and got to the other house and cant say more of how i dwelled alone in a room i stayed but the awesome thing was in the morning we found out that my father's banghouse got totally destroyed and fell down on water and we even got to live there before being much stable and stronger than our hut house standing on old wood and it remained with just a window pushed over on the other room that was harder to push back, but it was okay and where i placed my paper that time was on the side of this division'd hut house where no one lives and it got totally destroyed also. If only you could see how fragile our hut house was you would say it's a miracle😅 both wood standing where our house was placed was even standing on small stones. Whether related or not, i don't care to say that i personally believe death by ananias and sapphira and the magician's experience is not that hard to believe for me. And i have to stop now cause my demonic radar is acting up hehe it's when my neck stiffs and has this pain i've experienced many times in the past that i had called it such way. Pbwya.

I’m a believer. This passage of scripture & these events greatly confused me. Nowhere is it recorded that Jesus willed the Holy Spirit to kill anyone. Rather that Jesus’s ministry was to save & not to condemn. This passage in acts seems extreme to say the least & contrary to what Jesus taught. I would not want to follow God out of fear but rather because God is good. I have lifted up prayers to Jesus for an understanding of this event. They were not offered forgiveness. The idea that lying to God or the Holy Spirit portends death does not seem consistent with the message of redemption for a contrite heart. They were not given an opportunity to express if they were even convicted in their hearts for the lie they told. Forgiveness??? 😔

In Acts 5:3-5, Peter said that the value of the land they held was theirs before it was sold and after it was sold. So, they could have given any amount they wished and kept back any amount they wished. The problem was they lied and said they gave everything they received from the sale as evidenced by Peter's later question to Sapphira "Did you sell the land for so much?" And she said "Yes, for so much" in verse 8. These movies that bring the Bible to life are amazing, but we must read the Bible for ourselves because not all movies stick to the script or to the doctrinal message.

I am reading all the Bible and this moment is a slightly mysterious story to me; so, I am glad to have this as an aid to my understanding. Is there any earlier scenes involving an honest man named Joseph who sincerely donated ALL the proceeds from his sale of land to his fellow Christians. Perhaps Ananias and Sapphira wanted to appear to be like Joseph and they were willing to lie to achieve higher status as Christians?
