Joan Blondell was such an awesome actress. Her and Shelly Winters as they aged they gain weight. They didn't hide away from the world. From Wikipedia: "David Ross was an ex-convict, who spent six years in prison for a murder he did not commit, then became a private investigator in Los Angeles. Though he received a governor's pardon, he is constantly harassed by police partly for his alleged past crime and partly because he is a private eye. He only resorts to violence when forced to, and his carry pistol is a tiny .25-caliber semi-automatic. *Many of his cases involve eccentric Hollywood or Southern California types, with whom he copes in a bemused fashion.*" Sounds like a Jim Rockford prototype.

It's two episodes of The Outsider, edited later into a movie-of-the-week. That's why it seems confusing, with scenes going back and forth between the cases of the missing child and the tell-all book. I think they did alright splicing it together like that. I kept thinking I recognized the teenager Marcie - turns out she played the wife of astronaut John Glenn in The Right Stuff. It was a difficult role, portraying a woman thrust into the limelight while suffering from a debilitating speech impediment. Both Marcie the teenager and Annie Glenn had the same wide-eyed look of actress Mary Jo Kennedy (who is the real-life mom of Zooey & Emily Deschanel). I really enjoyed this movie.

This 1969 made for TV movie was created by pasting together two episodes of a weekly TV show that was called, The Outsider. The series ran for two years, 1968, & 69. It's interesting how much of this show's DNA was picked up for the Rockford Files which first aired in 74. The reason for the similarities is that the producer of The Outsider, was also a co-producer of the Rockford Files.
