You guys are both great. I signed up Udemy courses on art (several fundamentals etc) but there is too much fluff, not enough info I felt like on certain ones. Thanks for all the work you all put into your channels. I consider myself a 'novice' but still am getting my mind blown by you guys.

Speaking of eye reflectivity: My family has extremely dark brown eyes, and when i was seven(ish) i remember looking at my mom's face and saying "I can see myself in you!". I've never really seen someone paint eye reflections this way before, it's really interesting!

22:50 that kinda reminds me of a woman i met when i was a kid, me and my friends called her "beautiful eyes lady", and her name was "linda" that means beautiful in portuguese. She had the most crazy eyes we had ever seen, it was really clear the green, blue and yellow on it, even more visible than the painting. She said even she didn't know exactly what her eye color was, but we called it "brazilian color", cuz it had all the colors in our flag. Now i kinda want to draw it, if i can remember.

as someone who absolutely cannot apply things to my art unless i’m given an explanation to exactly HOW and WHY it is that way, this video was really helpful. never been a fan of tutorials or videos who just give one example and say ‘Okay, this is the right way to do it!’ with no further nuance so loved this vid and all the vids on your channel. been a silent follower for years but since i struggle so greatly with eyes this one in particular saved me lolol

I felt you stating how long each eye took you helps relieve this anxiety of feeling like my digital paintings should be super fast. I don't know what to attribute it to. I feel heightened sense of "need for turnaround" which steals the joy of playtime that I allow myself with traditional media. It's nice to have a reminder that even the best take time.

Hey so somebody else has probably said this already given that this is almost a two year old video but i got excited that i know it :D The reason why asian eyelids seem thicker is because they are hooded - a.k.a the skin is folded over itself so the edge of the lid is often almost completely covered by the fold sitting above it while the eye is open, which is also the main reason for the more angular looking shape. In fact one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries among asian people (i think mostly in Korea?) is the removal of the extra skin so that the eyes look rounder and more open.

You could consider the little blink at 25:03 as the good old animation segment tho! :)

Honestly, I came here from d’Angelo and I’m so glad I did! Im on younger side, but with enough knowledge that your everyday basic videos are too simple or more detailed one being too complex, so your videos are a new happy medium for me!

I check watched your face in any angle, how to draw a mouth and now this video has improved my understanding of the human face tremendously. Even when I draw a simple face sticking to your principles it looks far more realistic. 😂amazing. You don’t know how long I’ve searched for references for lips and your simple shape changed my perspective greatly. 🎉🎉🎉
