Prayers go out to Christina Applegate who is now suffering from MS and battling for her life. She had to film the second season of her hit show" dead to me" pretty much sitting down and being held up but she wanted to finish it

That's horrible to hear, especially because I was just noticing how fantastic she is in this movie. Often the female "love interests" in these wacky SNL comedies (as I call them) are unsung, and this is a particularly great example. Her performance is one of the funniest in a movie filled with them and she never goes over the top (which is what everyone else is doing). Really sad to hear that. Hard to believe.

Growing up in the 60's and 70's this movie gets everything right about the era. Even the news team jumping into the bear pit is just like 70's tv shows.

Well, they used the Lee Majors / Bionic Man "I'm doing something superhuman" sound effect when jumping in. It's hard to get a more pointed audio reference than that! 🦿🦾

In a cartoony way, yes. I wouldn't call it a time capsule of the 70s, it's very much a movie of the late 90s/early 2000s. That's like saying Austin Powers gets everything right about the era. "Dazed And Confused" and "Boogie Nights" nail the era. "Anchorman" is "it's the 90s and we're all infatuated with the 70s so here's another movie that's putting on the 70s clothes and mustaches." lol. I mean I like "Anchorman", and yes they nail the 70s news team presentation but if I wanted to show people what the 70s were like, this movie ain't it. (And "Network" it ain't.)

My God. I'm simping so hard for Maple. On another note, Steve Carell stole the movie from Ferrell. Though my favorite line was Burgundy's "I immediately regret this decision", every scene with Brick was dominated by him.

I’m old and the kids are always sharing clips like this because they know it warms my heart to see young folks laughing at this kind of excellent foolishness or things that I like. I’m old enough to know the littering is a reference to how wasteful and careless of the environment we still were in the 70s. People were driving around in gigantic (beautiful looking) cars with massive V8s guzzling gas through their carburettors and it was relatively common to see certain folks throwing cigarette butts and styrofoam McDonald’s containers out of their widows while others would “tsk” or yell at them. I was born in ‘69 so I was 10 in ‘79 and some of my favourite memories were driving around because it was so much more noisy and wild on the roads and there were a-holes littering but a lot of other folks including my Mum and Dad and older sisters and “cool progressive people” would yell at litterers and they would flip us off and/or yell clever things like “Get f#cked” at us. I loved it when adults screamed at each other and thought road arguments and yelling drivers and roaring engines were so cool. It was a simpler time and these guys captured it pretty well in some ways. Like other GenXers I believe the 70s 80s and 90s were awesome and better in some ways but in many ways so much worse and it is SO much better now in many ways. A combination of now and then would be ideal. Old man rambling over now😁

There are 3 movies. During one newscast Veronica mentions a bank robbery that was cut out of the movie but had enough footage shot to make a straight to video movie. That cast had even more familiar faces and followed Veronica's investigative competence compared to the crew's lack of.

Here in Montreal we call them "Pogos" Since I cannot ever remember ever seeing one while I lived in Toronto I don't know if Pogo is just a Quebec thing or if the name exists anywhere else. Strange huh? it's like even regular world wide products have unique packaging here in Quebec. As an example Coke. Even though it is made and imported from outside Quebec, here we have bilingual packaging. Meaning that somewhere is a factory that makes specifically bilingual packaging just for our one province.

The first laugh out loud she got was Brick's "I don't know what we're yelling about". Which was funny as hell but I couldn't tell if she kept getting offended or just didn't get the jokes.....nothing against her but I'm just so happy I was single at the time I was because every girl I knew back in the day was laughing their asses off and still do as much as the guys. Good catch on seth rogen! People usually miss that, even now, for some reason. Another one a lot of people miss(a fair one though cause he isnt "on screen" much, ever.) is the guy who says "It smells like a turd covered in burnt hair!!!" is Judd Apatow, producer/director of many of the major famous modern comedies, and I like them. Suck a pee pee internet. The actors and writing are funny, they arent Hitchcock flicks, laugh every once and a while. Signed, your biggest cynic.
