Aces are bait. For straights you want to aim for the high middle instead, like J,10,9,8,7 and then trim the cards at the edges. Smaller decks are more consistent and hand size is king.

@@slimeboy3 aces, kings and 2s have only 2 combinations to make straights instead of 5. Also you'll find yourself fishing for 1 specific card instead of 2 when not able to go both higher and lower. If you have ace, fibbonaci or face synergy you can try to force it, but sometimes you'll use 2 discards just to make 1 straight.

If you're going for straights, you want to add cards of rank 5-10. Cards of this rank can be in 5 different straights, whereas anything else can only make 4 or less straights

One tip if you want to craft your deck for a straight build: Try to cut cards from either the top or bottom of your curve. So start by either removing kings or 2s and work your way down/up. It takes some time but it makes your deck a lot more consistent if you manage to get some iterations of that.

The best way to focus a straight deck is to center around aces, aiming to remove 7s and 8s first, followed by 6s or 9s, and play it depending on your luck from there. Aces can be played high or low, so they're very safe to prioritize regardless of which other cards you happen to get. It even sets you up if you want to build into a royal flush deck. You want to try to keep total size down to cycle through your deck easier. (All of this information doesn't really matter if you have the shortcut joker)
