@chickenpasta73592 жыл бұрын
Ok, but do you think it's worth $2000? Don't you think they're taking advantage of an already niche community? Let me remind you that the original OP-1 first sold for $1,299 (which at the time was severely overpriced)... Nobody cares about the point of a device when the people marketing and selling it increases the price 40% over its original value while adding almost nothing new to it all because the used market was vastly overestimating this toy. A better alternative would pretty much be an iPad, a device that is just as portable but can do so much more than this thing. But keep simping for Teenage Engineering

If I was an OP-1 devotee, and it had really helped me create songs, and/or I had a stupid amount of money in the bank, then maybe I would buy one. It is not just a toy, and many people love it and can make some excellent music with it. However, the most troubling things are the myriad anecdotes of TE’s appalling customer service and the apparent contempt they have for their high-spending customers.

Yes the price is insane, but in terms of inspiration and immediacy it’s hard to find anything similar. People are happy to shell out $3000 on a Moog, but I would go out on a limb and say that in recent years the OP1 would have inspired or made it’s way onto more tracks than most synths out there. And so who knows, even with this crazy price tag, maybe $ per inspired track might actually not look too bad? Jack seems more excited about this than any other synth I’ve seen him demo and that speaks volumes.
@dcpayne5264 Жыл бұрын
I can attest to this. I have quite a few analog synths (Moog and Dave smiths / sequentials) but I play my OP1 more than anything. I’ll be upgrading to the op1 field. It’s like a Leica camera, the cost doesn’t make sense until you click with it

My feelings exactly. Great little device but the elitist pricing decisions are, frankly, insulting. I can buy two or three great sounding synths and a couple effects pedals, or a very nice vintage synth for the $3000 this little gizmo costs here in Canada. I know the material and manufacturing costs don't warrant such a high retail price. It's all about marketing to a specific buyer. That buyer is clearly not me.

Iphone/Ipad and nanokeys pro runs circles around the Op-1. That's if you only use GarageBand. Endless possibilities with AUM and huge library of cheap/free music apps. There's no denying it's expensive. It's the price of a very capable laptop. But, like many products from Teenage Engineering, whether it be their Pocket Operators (which are insanely good) or their smaller OP-Z sequencer, they make great portable music gear. Yes, a lot of this is from a brand with very strong minimalist aesthetic and high Apple-esque prices, but their products make great music and have a lot of thought put into them. I have not owned a OP-1 original, but experimented with it when it was first released and it was apparent it's a very capable, feature rich machine. It appears that the OP-1 Field is a very worthy successor/update to the original in every way.
