Some very interesting points as always, and instant good mood too 😉 One of the things that I have learned from training in self defence that would generally be overlooked in wresting/sports of that nature, is "Inserting Strikes to the Technique". Meaning where I would absolutely study the life out of this, I would always add a "Softener" to the Technique. Where? Initially when you are looking up to defend against the grabbing, I would do that and at the same time strike the groin with my closest hand - to discourage him from pulling your neck up and pressing with his hips. You could also insert that strike as you grab his wrist with your other hand, if he has the hold, and then put that arm over the shoulder and continue the technique. "Inserting" "Softeners" can really go a long way in self defence. Just thought I'd add a bit of my own advice. As always, massive respect to you and your channel, and your teaching.
@dannythorne71435 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Adding strikes always helps, especially when hitting the groin area. It causes your opponent to flinch which creates space.

When I transitioned out of the USMC. Ended up in Santa Barbara California. Ended up becoming homeless. There was this dude named Ron Pedersen (another homeless person). Who didn't like veterans too much. One day. Ron decided to confront me. Ron. Came up to push me. He was obviously trying to fight me on his terms. He attempted to push me again, and received a judo throw over my left shoulder. Ron, unfortunately had no judo training and was slammed down on the concrete sidewalk. Fortunately.Ron did not suffer from anything other than complete humiliation. As things turned out. I gained the reputation of giving people a flying lesson. Being trained in basic hand to hand combat techniques. Learned some very important facts. You evaded before you block. You block before you hurt. You hurt before you maim. And you maim before you kill. Why? Because life is precious! I'm definitely not a billy badass, even though I have been actively training in the martial arts since 1975. What I have learned is that you de-escalate before you employ martial arts training. Use your brain first slick.

@annoyed7074 жыл бұрын
If you can stall the choke and get the arm draped, you could use that weight on the shoulder to pin the choker while you circle toward the opposite side enough to sweep the far leg at the knee, breaking their structure. Somebody, probably a BJJ guy, has a video showing that counter somewhere on YT.

Grab his arm with the left hand to ease the choke on your neck. With the right foot step to the outside where arm is holding you. Make sure right foot is now behind his right foot. Now uppercut your right hand, with a forward motion, to the outside. Your shoulder will drive a point breaking his grip if not his hand. You should now end up on the outside holding his arm ready for a follow up.

If the guillotine is already locked in tight you can also go for a double leg takedown and pass his guard into side mount (make sure your head and feet are on the opposite side of his body) that way he wont be able to choke you out anymore. You can then 2 on 1 hand fight his grip / stall and wait for his arms to gas out or go for a von flue choke (look it up for more details) and choke him out yourself. This is the standard counter against any beginner in the mma gym or on the streets that try to get a (standing) guillotine on you. Good luck and have fun!

The science to getting out of a guillotine is to make the elbow joint go up against the waist hinge. The hand over the back to stop the arch is correct but you don't want to stay standing. This is the technique that I was taught. Sit down and roll into them so you get side control. Put your forearm on their neck with one arm and use the other arm to control their hip and arch your back up while forcing your forearm on their neck. You arch with your back and waist. Your waist is going against their elbow and they are forced to let go of the guillotine. Just like an arm bar is elbow joint against waist so is the escape from the guillotine that I've just described. This guillotine escape works. Give it a try in sparring. Once you have it you will laugh at how easy it is and you won't be frightened of guillotines anymore.

We use this as a potential ad on technique… It doesn’t always work of the guys got a longer torso is putting you in the guillotine then go back to regular BJJ style, there’s two that are very effective the arm hang getting to the side of the body with the back trip take down or… Krav Maga has a good answer when you punch the guy in groin ( with your forearm) and then punch out of the guillotine if it’s not deep water tight.

Rip open the flesh. 6: use dead weight and go straight into a double leg tackle, it may or may not break the grip depending on what grip he is using.

Real life fight advice. Just got put in one of these some days ago on the street. That was the third or fourth time it happened on the street to me. My fists rocked his face before and after he head butted me, and I went easy on him to not break the glass when he fell and held on to my shirt and ripped it. But, it was hard to get out that guillotine at the end this time, lol. My neck and back are injured, if I were normal I’d be stronger and would have gotten out of the hold. But, I did pop him up real nice many times and he didn’t hit me once (except the headbutt). I had two people holding me and not him. I hate it when that happens…

Prayer and pain together! 😄 I like your tip to keep moving. If you freeze, you’re dead. Thank you, my friend!

The best way to escape this is for the guy in the choke to finish a take down to side control it instantly relieves the pressure.

Very well done, explanation AND production values. Sorry about that chipped tooth though! Ouch! Shows it even happens to pros. You've always gotta be super careful.

Biting or hitting someone in the balls may hurt them, but there is no guarantee that the person is going to let go, especially if they’re full of adrenaline. Maybe you take a chunk out of them and crush their nuts, but they just have to hold on for a few more seconds to knock you out, at which point you’re as good as dead. Good video, escapes are way more important than cheap shots!

I have the same reaction to each and every one of these self-defense videos. If someone attacks be from in front or from behind I automatically assume that they don't like me and want to do me bodily harm. therefore I am under no requirement to play nice or to fight fair with this person, be it male or female. I ALWAYS carry a knife and the very instant I am grabbed as shown in this video I will pull that knife from my front waistband, open it with the press of a button, and drive the blade into whichever body part of the attacker's is closest to me.

4. If you find that you are strong enough to get a little relief from #3, be patient as you pray and he will burn his arms out and be so exhausted that you can whoop him good, unless you burn yours out too.
