Agreed. I appreciate how they are making the imps more human and relatable. Instead of evil robotic monsters this is a far more believable and human look at everyone in this story. I also like that not everyone necessarily has the same motives for finding their own way into this rebellion even if for just a mission or two or maybe they don't even think they are a rebel but they are acting against the empire and thus a terrorist in the eyes of them none the less. This is the sort of writing and depth we only get in novels, until now.

I said before going into the episode, if it's half as suspenseful as the Mandalorian episode when he and Bill Burr break into the Imperial outpost to get the info on Grogu's location, we'll be good. Man did this deliver. Lt Gorn having to stomach listening to the Imperials degrade the indigenous people the entire episode and the Commandant having no clue why he'd turn sums up exactly what Andor said about the Imperials being fat and satisfied. There's parallels to the Roman Empire where outposts are so far from Rome that the local prefects or whomever just abuse their position and power and no one from Rome is the wiser. So good.

@@MassiveHappyClapper I'm not the best person to explain it but essentially act 1 is the beginning phase of the show where everything is established like characters, places, events, etc., the groundwork. Act 2 is harder to relate but it is the development of the crisis or drama or conflict of the story and it's the bulk of the show typically. Then act 3 is the climax or bringing all that to a conclusion resolving the conflict (the end) often with a big battle or such. It's the formula used in screen writing for film, TV, stage, etc. rooted in the history of live stage plays where they would have intermissions between each act for the audience and for the cast to get a brief break. At least that's what I have read about screen writing.

I think the reason the mission leader was so hesitant to start the mission is because she knew she would never see her lover again because she is an Aldhani. I imagine the Empire is going to find and kill her on planet after this heist. I love that this show is the grown up grounded Star Wars I’ve been wanting since Disney bought LucasFilm. I think this show excels because Gilroy tends to save money by using the 3 episode arc model. They save money by building a set for the entire 3 episodes and sticking to it. They don’t spend a lot until the 3rd episodes of each arc.

I'm loving this show almost a much as I love listening to the 3 of you talk about Star Wars! The way you 3 bounce off each other is A+++ Nothing in this series has seemed boring to me. I think another reason it sounds so cool when you hear an effect - whether it be a laser, or more impressively, a TIE Fighter - is because the show is relatively, and appropriately, quiet (I mean, it is centred around espionage). Sci-fi and fantasy spectacles constantly bombard us with noise, and so awesome moments easily get lost in the cacophony. Not the case in Andor. The same calculated restraint can be said for how this show deals with the visuals and the overall narrative. This show IS fun, because it's so damn rewarding as a viewer to be treated with such a well devised and executed piece of art. Thanks Kristian, Steph and Mike, I always look forward to your insightful reviews and am never disappointed!

For the people who say it’s boring or it doesn’t “feel” like Star Wars: I would argue that it has very similar pacing and tone to Empire Strikes Back but the difference is that it’s split up into 3 episodes so you have to wait weeks to get the payoff instead of it all being wrapped up in one two hour movie. I’m really enjoying spending time with the characters so when the action happens it actually means something. Like all the time Luke spent in the cave talking to Yoda - it makes the events at the end of the movie that much more impactful.

Before I start Kristian, Steph, and Mike...I want to say that I love this show #Andor, and #RogueOne is my favorite of all the Disney #StarWars films. That said, this show has been a "VERY SLOW BURN"! My teenage son was ready to "tap out" because it was all dialogue. I had to explain to him what it all means after each episode. The Gilroys have written a superb show. It has done what Feige successfully did with the #MCU, that is add a sub-genre to the #StarWars universe. But my favorite two episodes have been the ones where there were "laser gun battles". So I truly get the folks who say this finally feels like #StarWars. C'Mon Mike, the first thing you see in "ALL" of #StarWars is a laser battle between the ISD Devastator and the Tantive IV. Then between the Stormtroopers and the crew. So it is what we have grown to love & expect over the past 45 years. That's like being mad that all the movie episodes had dealings with the #Skywalkers within the "SKYWALKER SAGA". Just my two pennies.

As for what's next, pull back from the mission and it seems this heist is the beginning of the Rebellion. The beginning of the Empire taking them seriously, of Mon Mothma and Luthen gathering the funds to start the Rebellion on a larger scale. So imo the next episodes need to be about that, how the Empire reacts, how the Rebellion uses the 80M to build on their momentum. Luthen will need to find Andor, mentor him, and plug Cassian into the Rebellion in a real way. I think the second half will be two steps back three steps forward with Empire wins, but rebel progress.

The heist was actually probably the best action scene, for me, in all of Star Wars. I know that's a bold statement and maybe I am forgetting how good something else was but this was just so much more real and wasn't just there for the sake of excitement. So many action scenes appear to be just a vehicle created to serve an idea a director had that they thought would "look cool" and they shoe-horned it in for the sake of only that. Personally, I don't need action, space battles, light sabers, the force, Jedi, etc., in this show at all as it's, for me, a great show that happens to be in Star Wars and not great BECAUSE it's Star Wars. Andor could have been set in a different place and time and still been a great show and I also attribute that mostly to the writing but the directing and performances also have been really solid, except the boy that played Cassian as a boy. To me I just thought they could have cast that better.

Do you think Skeen let the one guy get shot down? He was supposed to cover him and when he left for the ship skeen hid again and that’s when he got killed. Like maybe it would be easier to take the money without that guy there. Maybe I’m just reading to much into it just thought it was weird when he was supposed to be shooting at the soldiers to help him get there but didn’t.

He keeps bringing up House of the Dragon and I can't help thinking I'm surprised so many people gave the GOT universe another chance after they botched that finale.

On the topic of Rogue 1 cameos we've seen Saw Guerarra (sp) in trailers and Jen Erso was with him until she was 16. They could easily do meeting between Luthen and Guerarra and have a young female follower in his group. They wouldn't even have to name her.

I had another "impact of Andor on the SW franchise" thought that I haven't personally heard a lot of talk about so I'll relate it: The entertainment industry as a whole has always been really "nerd friendly;" the TV and Movies subfield is no exception. I'm quite sure that there are big-talent writers, directors, and producers who loved SW as kids and maybe still love it today BUT haven't ever seriously considered pitching anything to Lucasfilm because, love or not, they've never seen SW as a franchise for "serious" or "adult" or "sophisticated" story telling.... ...but Andor is a real thing, right? And if we did/DO actually get a second chapter of Boba and it actually IS a mafia story and it's not crappy? Kathleen Kennedy is going to start getting a lot of serious mofos with serious vision and talent blowing up her inbox: "Heyyy...I've always had this idea kicking around...."

Wonder if we'll hear Ezra's speech in this series at some point?
