Its so weird I heard this song for the first time in Louisiana in the 1980s. I was 7 I didn't know the name and when I asked Ms. Lindy what it was all she told me is that it was a song of her history. I never heard her play it again then again I moved away 6 months later. As I got older I looked up the words on the internet and eventually found out the story behind it by accident by watching an episode of Touched By an Angel. I am so glad the story is being told.

I'm not sure how an emotionally functional human being could listen to such a beautiful and devastating song and not be brought to tears.

Omlola Otekunrin I can’t stop. Looking at my three sons and thinking back to such a difficult time for my ancestors... Makes it all burn deeply in my soul.
