Have been using a 29" ultrawide for a year or so but I'm getting a 32" "normal" monitor and turning the ultrawide into portrait orientation for my coding workflow. 29" was too small for me, as I still was left lacking for screen real estate while working, also there was not too much media that supported the ultrawide aspect ratio, so I'd prefer to go back for now.

After seeing the comparison, wouldn't the best way to go is just to have an ultra wide and another monitor on top? This way you get the amazing gaming experience while also being able to still full screen videos on top.
@Chiramisudo10 ай бұрын
5:57 That's an easy one. Just use multiple Desktops and toggle between them. I often have at least 2-3 desktops, one dedicated for screen sharing with only the apps / folders that I want to share for daily Scrum, meetings, screen recording for documentation, etc. You can also set zones, and even crop in post-production in the latter case.

As a programmer, having a second screen in portrait mode is a complete game changer. Unfortunately, my wacom cintiq takes up wayyy too much space, so one of those monitors had to go. Once I get a dedicated illustration setup going though, I'm heading right back to the double monitor setup.

I use a drawing tablet for illustration/painting, and wondered why it felt SO unnatural drawing on my ultrawide monitor compared to my normal monitor at work, then I finally figured out: Most if not all drawing tablets are made with 16:9 aspect ratio in mind... Ultrawides are at least 21:9! Due to the mapping distortions, horizontal strokes will translate slower than vertical strokes i.e. Circles I draw on my Wacom Intuos become ovals on the ultrawide... This shit bothered me so much after I noticed, that I straight up went back to my 24" lmao. Definitely something to consider if you plan on doing any digital art at all.
@Xargantuan Жыл бұрын
You can adjust the active area of the Wacom in your settings to reflect the 21:9 aspect ratio. But you do end up with a smaller active area but it should solve your problem. I usually set mine to a bit smaller than full size since the edges of Wacoms usually have issues activating the system popup menu.

As someone who will soon get a gaming setup, I think dual screens is better for productivity while gaming if a have to choose one. If you're busy with your game on one screen, you can turn your head to see Discord on the other. If playing a game while it's not in fullscreen is not bothersome to you then an ultrawide would be better for you; also if you're strictly gaming with apps opened in the background if you prefer the fullscreen gaming experience. For things like producing music and even video editing (content creation), an ultrawide is ultra useful but if using one screen to edit isn't a bother, then you'll be fine with dual screens. Dual screens will also work for you if turning your head from one screen to another makes you feel sophisticated. Anyone who uses a laptop will know it's better to have two screens than one. For, let's call them "dual gamers", just make sure your screens aren't small. They should be on the larger side (27 inches ateast sounds proper) so that you don't feel constrained. Personally speaking, I believe you should get the best of both worlds once you can. Ultrawide dual screens will be excellent for gamers and those who work on their monitors. Thank you for the video, mate. I'll definitely come back to purchase some things from your links.

I use a gaming PC and an M1 Max Macbook with shared peripherals on a smaller desk than I'd like so being able to swap between them with a single cable (via the TS4 Thunderbolt dock) is perfect. I will probably upgrade in six months to a larger desk and may split the configuration and am strongly considering the 57" samsung for a dedicated PC monitor and splitting the setup but I'm not sure yet. The swapping is a little annoying but the laptop and the desktop are a bit out of the way so I might just get them closer to me so I don't have to get up lol

I realized that distraction for me it's not ok and I can't focus If i have in front of me 2 monitors for example 1 for work and 1 for video or something other. For my best focus I just use 1 monitor and If I want to chill and have a break I just play games on another one. This psichologically just easier for me.

I started with a a dual 24" 1080p x 1920 set-up but it was a bit too bulky for my snug home-office space and a hassle if I had to move my desk to another room or area of the house. I 'graduated' to a 34" ultra wide 1440p x 3440. The ultrawide set-up is amazing. Sleek, portably convenient and plenty of multiple-window space for my work. The picture detail and font clarity of 1440p is superior to 1080p. I'll probably never go back to dual monitors.

The drawbacks you mention are why I have stuck with my 10+ year old triple monitor setup: 1920x1200 in the middle, two 1600x1200 monitors on the sides. I will only run Windows at 100%, as the scaling feature is still to buggy with software I use - so some higher resolution monitors are out for me due to being too small for their pixel density. My needs are only productivity related, not gaming. Sure my setup isn't as elegant as an ultrawide, but it suits my use case very well - and I"m finding it difficult to justify making any changes.

I seriously miss the 1200p monitors. I work primarily with text and a ton of open references, and 1080p is too short. 1440p works well, but becomes too costly for a dual monitor setup and too big when in vertical (27" being the minimal size for 1440p to be comfortable for my eyes). Was really bummed when companies started moving away from 1200p.

IMO, say you have a budget of $1000 for either one ultrawide or 2 normal monitors. A 34" ultrawide is 3,440 x 1,440 at probably 60/75hz, while one 27" 2K monitor at $500 is 2,560 x 1,440 at potentially 120/144hz. So basically for the same price, with two 27" monitors you will be getting 2.4 million more pixels and a higher refresh rate. Unless special need for ultrawide (e.g., film editing, racing games, FPS?), I'd always recommend dual monitor setup 🖥 🖥

Sticking two 4k res monitors now, I have tried a super ultrawide and normal ultrawide and really wanted to like them but there are just too many things that interfere with gaming/production. Remote desktop app launching window size along with the inability to play a game on half the monitor and use the other half to do whatever. Some ultrawides have that ability now but still if you split the screen you split the resolution which sucks! Sometimes I want to play games at max res AND watch something on my other screen, that does not work awesome with any ultra/super ultra. Yes it works but there is always something you have to give up. Then when it comes to my work which requires me to RDP into servers etc. the ultrawide always causes RDP to open apps in weird locations (other users might be opening them in a second monitor and it remembers where it was last launched) and its off the screen or just a weird size. This never happened with two monitors. Overall I just found streaming games, playing games and production/work was just way easier and uniform without having to give anything up (like playing games at lower res because you want to use the other half to watch something). But yes, two nice monitors is much more expensive than any single super ultrawide.

I think a 42 inched OLED panel is the most enjoyable for productivity. Plenty space both horizontally and vertically and an amazing quality of picture making even visual studio code pleasant to spent time lol

I have a stacked monitor setup, with a 27 monitor at the top and a 22 monitor at the bottom. Im okay with the setup it allows me preview my renders while Im 3d modeling. I also used the bottom to watch movies and youtube videos without angleing my head to much.

Really, I think this is just a very personal thing, and like you said there's no right answer. Most of us are cramming multiple use-cases into one setup, and there just isn't a true ideal. My setup consists of my MacBook Pro and a gaming PC. There's a 27" 1440p monitor connected to the gaming PC, which I'll also use occasionally as a second screen for my laptop (I prefer to work mainly on the laptop screen for many reasons). Then there's a second, older 1080p 24" monitor connected to the gaming PC, almost entirely just so I can have KZbin/Discord/iTunes/a browser open while gaming. It's a situation where I can't even think of a way to make it work better for my needs, no matter how much money I could theoretically throw at it. A super nice 4k or higher display would be great to plug my laptop into, but would push my already quite capable gaming PC (3070 Ti) to its limits.

I’m looking to get into a Laptop setup for school/gaming since I am beginning to travel more and the PC I built in 2015 is on its last leg. I mainly game on my PS5 so I want a dual monitor setup so that I can have the PS5 playing on one monitor and be able to the other monitor for my laptop. Is there a way that I can have it setup so that I don’t have to mess with the buttons to change the input every time I want to switch to the PS5? For reference the laptop I’m buying is the Legion pro 7i
