If bird flu and swine flu is a concern, why would NZ import both poultry and pork from Europe and North America? Is this also some sort of climate change mitigation strategy? I understand that the flu can survive even in frozen products. Surely NZ could be self sufficient in poultry and pork without the need for potentially risky imports.
