@@JuicerNation "Forced wealth redistribution." You mean VAT on big tech? Sounds fair to me, since it prevents them using loopholes to avoid tax. Amazon tripled its profits last year while paying zero tax--causing massive retails to close down along the way. The UBI forces people to forego welfare, which is fantastic. We're already paying for programs that benefits a small group of citizens, and illegals. Illegals getting food and shelter, while citizens eating from the trash. Do you see the homeless people in sanctuary city? Those are aways citizens, rarely illegals. "forced gun registries" You still get to buy and keep guns. Assault rifles are still available, as well as handguns. Only silencers are banned. So whats the problem? 1 month wait is not the end of the world.

@Tor Teo He was accepted early to Brown where he studied economics. He then got a law degree from Columbia but decided to start a company with a 200K loan which he grew then sold for megamillions. He has good friends in the tech industry and researched and studied the economics of the actual Americans in the rust belt and wrote a book about it all while using his business profits not to buy a gold toilet seat but to start a non-profit to help create entrepreneurship in the those places in America falling between the cracks in this century of automation. He was on the debate team which reached the championships in London. Yeah, he sure is dumb. : D

@whispers from my arse say A 10% VAT on consumer goods is how the freedom dividend will be funded. That's how Amazon, Google and others will be taxed, not on their back end. They can't avoid VAT, no matter where their HQ. All foreign traders will also pay it on US sales. Yangs dividend will be rolled out slowly, perhaps starting with folks who's sir name starts with Z and working through to A, sorting problems as they arise. I think that's the only way to construct a program that works, is stable and is budget neutral or positive.

Before people start asking "how do we pay for this" without doing research let me just leave this here. " The means to pay for a Universal Basic Income will come from 4 sources: 1. Current spending. We currently spend between $500 and $600 billion a year on welfare programs, food stamps, disability and the like. This reduces the cost of Universal Basic Income because people already receiving benefits would have a choice but would be ineligible to receive the full $1,000 in addition to current benefits. 2. A VAT. Our economy is now incredibly vast at $19 trillion, up $4 trillion in the last 10 years alone. A VAT at half the European level would generate $800 billion in new revenue. A VAT will become more and more important as technology improves because you cannot collect income tax from robots or software. 3. New revenue. Putting money into the hands of American consumers would grow the economy. The Roosevelt Institute projected that the economy would grow by approximately $2.5 trillion and create 4.6 million new jobs. This would generate approximately $500 - 600 billion in new revenue from economic growth and activity. 4. We currently spend over one trillion dollars on health care, incarceration, homelessness services and the like. We would save $100 - 200 billion as people would take better care of themselves and avoid the emergency room, jail, and the street and would generally be more functional. Universal Basic Income would pay for itself by helping people avoid our institutions, which is when our costs shoot up. Some studies have shown that $1 to a poor parent will result in as much as $7 in cost-savings and economic growth. "
@mikejohnson9606
@mikejohnson9606 5 жыл бұрын
Where did you get your numbers from. There are 330 million people in America. The freedom dividend isn't going to everyone the money. Because that would be about 4 trillion dollars. The Roosevelt institute said that it would grown 2.5 trillion in 4 years. That is about only 650 billion a year. If you spend 3 trillion dollars to make 600 billion that isn't a very good return. The millionaires and billionaires like this idea because they get to keep more money while the poor and middle class will have to pick up the tab.
@LilRedRasta

@mikejohnson9606
@mikejohnson9606 5 жыл бұрын
@@LilRedRasta yes, also you don't get any benefits if you opt in. No unemployment benefits, no social security benefits, no VA benefits. They're 170 programs to help the poor. What about the ACA benefits will they go away too. The cost is high because if no one takes the dividend then it doesn't save any money. If it does it just shuffles one side to another. That cost is still real.
@LilRedRasta
@LilRedRasta 5 жыл бұрын
@@mikejohnson9606 The point is, the people who opt in to UBI will most likely be making MORE than they are currently. This is why stating that the average welfare payment is 404 is relevant. Also if no one opts in to the dividend it SAVES money as they are no longer counted as part of the population. Its the exact opposite as you claim. The more people OPT IN, the more expensive the UBI program is. But again, part of their 1000 is already accounted for by redistributed welfare funds, while the other part is covered by new revenue. OH and Yang's plan does not touch healthcare, so ACA is not considered part of welfare. Besides, Yang wants free heatlhcare, so that's really a non-issue.

I don't know his main promise of a dividend is a big gamble. As the dividend is clearly an investment within the citizens believing as this theory will lead to greater economic stability and growth. However that dividend for all Americans(18+) is a lot of money(2.4 trillion each year to be approximately). My question is whose paying for it? It won't be the wealthy elitist 1%, because even they couldn't cover it on their own. It won't be the poorest of Americans, because they don't generate enough income. So it will be the middle class picking up the tab. And his promise is bases on the theory this will boost economic growth as everyone now receives a minimum income of 12,0000 a year(which will affect inflation). There's enough to be skeptical about, also UBI is forced wealth redistribution(which personally I'm not a fan of).

Marc Bernard well there is many policies that CAN be done simply by the President alone, like marijuana legalization, and pardoning... if he wants it done he gets it done by himself alone, many other policies that can be done solely by the president, but yeah the whole national atmosphere would certainly be better with someone like yang in office

The Freedom Dividend is a great way to strengthen our democracy and move us a small step towards the Star Trek society which has only been science fiction thus far. Finally, some of our laws can join a list of others features of our society that already meet that criteria.

@@JuicerNation I get what you're saying. Here's the money that's coming & why it won't trigger inflation: Currently, we have been the "unofficial Tech investors" while Big Tech has been paying ZERO to Near ZERO in taxes (shouldering their load). AND their profits are about to EXPLODE additionally in two more stages: 1) Hyper-efficiency via Automation. 2) The Space Industry. The 10% VAT/Tax can easily be absorbed for our Freedom Dividend to go straight into our hands as the Stake-holder Citizens of this great nation. Tech is quickly becoming compounded & concentrated & more AFFORDABLE for its producers, DIMINISHING the trigger-effects of Inflation. 😉 Think Quantum Computing, Neural Networks, Blockchain, 5G enabled Internet of Things (IoTs) & so on. Not left or right, but forward! The reason why he has mass appeal from democrats, independents, and republicans is because of his intention to help ALL Americans! He is uniform in his treatment of all Americans regardless of economic status. Just like every American, the white nationalists support him because he could improve their quality of life, not because he supports their cause. His policies address the underlying issues of compassion and humanity which is the reason for his mass appeal - and certain media stations should understand this point instead of jumping to conclusions about him. We need to give him our support because he is the only candidate with solutions as opposed to others which can only provide platitudes.

So far my favorite candidate. 1) he wants to forgive student loans. This is logical. The US owns 90% half of them are toxic assets and have inflated. There are 19 lawsuits against Navient. This was a disastrous neo-liberal policy. 2) UBI makes total sense. Americans subsidizes all major corporations. This is corporate welfare. The original idea was the money would trickle down but they just rebuy their own stocks. So if the US is subsidizing, the US citizen should be earning income from our investment. You can tax them, but they find tax loopholes. So UBI as a dividend makes more sense and provides the maximum freedom. 3) Thank god he is not interested in playing identity politics. Bernie and Warren play lip service to it, not realizing it is a no win game and reinforces US identity tribalisms. This US identity tribalism has a very real very negative fascist potential. The fascist potential may not hit us tomorrow or even ten years from now but could eventually be America's downfall. Don't feed that beast.

Whose going to pay for student loan forgiveness? Are people who already paid all of their student loans and had to work for years going to be reimbursed?
@matthewkopp2391
@matthewkopp2391 5 жыл бұрын
Kalvin Martinez You obviously don't understand this issue. Yang wants to restore bankruptcy protections to student loans and an actual workable service forgiveness program. What has happened with student loans is predatory lending, unconstitutional, and now Navient has 20 federal lawsuits of fraud, the Dept of Ed recently had 15 and lost, and more are on the way. The Corinthian college settlement makes it so that any student who was defrauded by their school through false advertising or false promises of any kind can have their loans discharged. The government owns 90% of loans they were already bought back at a low price from SLAB holders during the recession. The government has turned a profit from this but now they are toxic assets. They can't be resold because no one wants to buy them. Bankruptcy functions as a market correction. By not having bankruptcy protection half the SLAB assets are subprime. Furthermore their are a series of other problems. The mismanagement of the loans include loans of dead and permanently disabled borrowers. And another mismanagement: loans whose origination banks no longer exist have missing origination papers which means they are legally not collectible. In order to sort through this paperwork would need to be reviewed for over 40 millions loans. If we do the administrative audit work we merely spend billions and hand it over to Navient. Navient's fraud accusations included adding additional fees and compounding the interest. In the meantime the inflated and unpayable loans are slowing down the economy and will ultimately create long term stagnation. Last the previous service forgiveness program had over 400,000 applicants and only less than 300 were accepted by the US government. Even though the rest worked 10 years fulfilling their end of the bargain. To fix the mess the government would need to buy the remaining public SLABs and 10% and create a workable forgiveness program. For 90% the government could write of and it would cost the taxpayers nothing and save the tax payer admin costs. There is another problem. If bankruptcy is restored it turns the remaining loans, all loans in good standing into a high risk asset class which turns them into toxic assets over night. Bush, Obama passed forgiveness programs. Trump proposed one but not only never followed through with his proposal he and Devos stopped 400,000 people all of whom can sue the government. Whose interest does it serve to continue the loan program? The taxpayers (nope). The 40 million student loan borrowers who were potentially defrauded (nope). Then who is served. Namely Navient. Navient has made so much money on this scam that the CEO built the largest completely private golf course in the world. I am sorry I don't feel much sympathy for Navient. And so you know the US government created Navient which then became a private corporation. This is how corporate welfare works. Instead of the government providing affordable education it created a mult-billion corporation with our tax money so students pay four times as much for a loan which will cost them another 3 times the principle to pay back. Every former student in the USA should talk to a lawyer. As far as I am concerned I filled my complaint through Lisa Madigan's office in the State of Illinois Federal class action lawsuit. If it goes through court I and other defrauded borrowers will likely get an adjustment to our loans but it will hardly solve this problem. Any candidate who is not seriously trying to address this issue in one way or another has their head up their ass.
@kmartins5604
@kmartins5604 5 жыл бұрын
Matthew Kopp you wont fix inflated costs and predatory loans by forgiveness programs but by getting government out of college loans. Anyone can take out s loan through the government for education, but not for anything else. This is what inflates the prices because everyone can get them and in turn colleges increase their prices because they know they’ll be getting paid no matter what. College isn’t for everybody, can’t afford it, don’t take out loans. Be accountable for signing the dotted lines and agreeing to go into debt in return for an education, something that you can’t give back and why you cant file for bankruptcy on student loans. If people were “discriminated” on school loans like we are for car and house loans which you need to prove yourself financially capable, than people who can’t afford to pay for their loans wouldn’t be in this mess. A mess started by government involvement. Another question that needs answering, what happens to the millions who have paid their loans, reimbursement?
