Too many people have been reinforced in their thinking that cash relief makes people lazy. IT DOESN'T. This was a fascinating and important conversation between expansive and open minds - we need more like this for sure. Some say that the root of our problems is more 'spiritual' than 'physical' (by which they may mean 'ethical' rather than 'practical') - what strikes me here is what appears like self-censorship; (you can note this everywhere in the political space) - the one single word that is not spoken (verboten) is 'corruption'. Corruption is the axis upon which all our sorrows hinge. It is not spoken about, investigated, reported on, prosecuted or punished - thus it flourishes. Corruption is endemic (now that we all know that word) in modern capitalist culture, and like vultures prey on the weak & near dying, the greedy know how easy it is to corrupt a person, and they do it with glee. Every single elected 'representative of the people' sees this and knows it thoroughly, especially anyone who's been in the oval (offal) office - but to a person no one will say it, because most of them are in on it. Whatever you may think about what moving 'Forward' means - we got some overthrowing to do!!!

Alaska is the closest model because the permanent fund is given to everyone even though it’s not a consistent amount. Yet Alaska is one of the most red states that instituted the fund. Sounds very immature to label people who are against government hand outs as being on some drug. My logic is very rational and supported by informed economists. When you give humans money it always harms them. Why? Because they no longer have to make something of their life. Many ignorant people, like you, hop on board these types of ideas to virtue signal and claim they care about poor people. You don’t. Bc creating a bigger welfare state does not help poverty, it increases it. In the past 20 years global poverty has decreased at a rate never before seen. It’s not gov’t handouts that is causing that. I’ll let you do your research on this topic and see if you can figure it out. Gov’t handouts are just like your parents giving you $ after you move out. @hugomarquez31892 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the actual crisis is about party polarization, but about the existence of a big chunk of our population that truly doesn’t see the big picture, either because they’re extremely individualistic and don’t care about how their actions affect other people/animals, or because they just haven’t learned to think in a systematic manner, and only see and care about what’s right in front of them. The politicians that govern us have been voted by the people at the end of the day. The big issues we have to face, short and long term, are big picture systematic problems that require that we all make individual sacrifices. Covid, climate change, the economy, you name it. Everyone wants things to get better, but few seem to realize that they need to contribute with their actions to the solution and not the problem. You care about the climate? Adjust your thermostat, buy a hybrid or electric car, go vegan, recicle, stop single use plastic bags. You care about the economy? Vote, don’t just vote for what benefits you, see what the country needs. If the deficit concerns you, vote to pay more in taxes, or if you have a libertarian ideology, vote to cut spending, but don’t keep voting for spending without raising taxes (or giving tax cuts) and then complain about the deficit, math doesn’t work that way. You care about COVID? Get vaccinated, wear a mask, combat misinformation. Everyone wants to carry water to their own mill, and want the politicians to solve the issues as if by magic. We have to solve the issues ourselves, take responsibility for what’s going on, it is up to each and every one of us. I don’t think either Party has been particularly good about these issues, but I also don’t want to fall in the easy false equivalence that Rich and Yang engage in (Yang in a very disingenuous way). It is clear that one Party is a lot closer to actual solutions to these problems than the other, which wants to pretend they don’t exist.
@henrygustav79482 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what divides people, the idea that one side votes to get tax cuts, other side votes for tax increases, both sides still want to reduce the deficit in an never ending propaganda campaign which has lasted for at least 70 years. Economists right after managing the WW2 economy understood that taxes are not necessary to fund the Federal government. Its not about ideology, deficit spending is good and necessary for the economy to function correctly.
@desireegreen6532 жыл бұрын
Often the left is more educated and more articulate. But look around at broken cities, broken families, broken minds, broken trust in every institution. Talk to teachers, nurses, social workers. Maybe your party IS truly the "one party closer to actual solutions", but I highly recommend reading Yang's story. I have found the left, which I've always been as well, I have found the left of late to be completely unaware of itself and it's fruit. When Trump got elected I thought, Holy Shit, I need to listen to "the other side" and understand what's going on here. And it's led me to see what I value more than believing my side is the one side.
@henrygustav79482 жыл бұрын
@Chishio Chishio You can only do this if you are informed otherwise you don't know what is true what is not. People need a serious education in macroeconomics and Federal finances. The Federal government can pretty much afford to pay for anything it wants for sale in USD. There is no debt problem, no prob with national debt, no problem with social security, can fund healthcare without raising a penny in taxes. Can do many many things.

The problem is that a majority of people in this particular democracy is uninformed/disinformed. The solution is NOT to make fun of those people. That does nothing, but enrage those people, and make them dive deeper into their ideologies. The only possible solution is to engage and educate those people. Which is not an easy or short term thing.

How can you be a numbers person if you don't gather and share new data? Excellent! Even though I don't fully agree with everything said in this discussion, like the idea of offering politicians a bonus for not taking a job with any lobbyist organizations - (btw military veterans can go to jail for taking a job with a military contractor within... used to be 5 years) - I think that there is a tremendously urgent need for a third party. However, I would call it an INTERdependent party rather than independent party and explain what that means. It refers to achieving the "public victory" that Stephen Covey explains in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. People who have declared their independence by switching registration to Independent, which I have done, have achieved their "private victory." They did so by developing the first 3 habits (1. Be proactive, 2. Begin with the end in mind, and 3. Put first things first). Now it is time for us all to work together by 4. Think win/win, 5. Seek first to understand others & then be understood, and 6. Synergize. This is an extremely critical time for our country and we really need to get serious about it. Thank you Andrew and Rich!!!

Odd conversation when it comes to rank choice voting topic. I say that because if anyone Googles the rank choice voting effort is already a giant complicated state by state movement. I find it odd the Forward "Party" isn't a ***coalition*** working with the established rank choice voting movement that is and has been working the issues.

@@blackout2430 one type of food? There's hundreds of thousands of varieties of plants and mushrooms that are edible in the world that we know of. You must be talking about people on the carnivore diet, and I would agree with you there.

Capitalism is by definition profit centered. Human-Centered Capitalism is a contradiction like Human-centered slavery.
@SR-lh4rm2 жыл бұрын
No capitalism is value-centered. The profit is simply a measurement of the value created by a good or service. Getting rid of all profit whatsoever results in slavery since in that case you have to use coercive means to get people to do things.

Nothing that cannot go on forever, simply won't. UBI is a horrendous idea because it'll just cause the same old central banking system to continue and will cause a collapse even sooner. A currency collapse is the greatest truth never mentioned and is the biggest systemic problem coming. It's COMING. You won't be able to run away from it. We need a society based on sustainability on the most local and responsive level. Besides that, this was a great convo.

Andrew, I heard "moderate Democrats and sensible Republicans" and you did not correct it. Your outreach to Republicans will fail as long as you let such biased language stand.

My only problem with Andrew Yang is that he went and worked for a billionaire propaganda machine which encouraged people to vote for a republican running as a Democrat....

Ah yes, finding the middle ground between forced births and access to healthcare, or the middle ground between allowing people to get married or disallowing it. Just what the country needs lmao, a "middle ground" party.
