Whenever they compete Itoje has got the better of him every time. Etzebeth is closer but still comes second. The media haven’t over hyped him, they have given credit where it was due. As for penalty count, how many offsides did McCall give away? Yet he is still rated as one of the best and not just by New Zealanders.

Looking at posts below , what is it about Itoje that triggers Bok fans so much that they constantly have to use it as an opportunity to praise and extort Eben’s physical attributes over Itoje. Everyone knows Eben is a fine player so why is there amongst Bok fans this desperate need to constantly post about his perceived superiority over Itoje . They both play lock, they are athletic, they jump and hit rucks , tackle . They have different roles for their teams, Eben is a decent carrier whereas Itoje does his work as a jackler. Their playing stats are pretty similar with Eben carrying more and Itoje winning more turnovers. Jumping they have similar stats. I get Eben represents what’s great about South African players, powerful, courageous, skill full etc. I think he is a great player as well. But this constant need to affirmate his status whenever another player is even mentioned is just wierd. Nobody else does it. You don’t have to acknowledge that there are good other players from other countries that are also good if you don’t want to. Nor do you have to like these other players, it’s up to you. But use some perspective, you may not like him but Itoje is roundly considered a pretty good player as well. Either view you take on Itoje it doesn’t reflect Eben’s status as a world class player at all. Therefore constantly posting on any Itoje thread about your view on Eben’s superiority over him just comes across as desperate affirmation and that isn’t good .
