@ Mark Velo ...... I completely agree. I’m at least 10 years away (kids predominantly) from this sort of lifestyle and I’m already thinking it through. We aim to downsize, travel a lot and then come home. The ‘home’ will also be designed for airbnb so it can pay for itself while we’re away.

Mark Velo, you're spot on. If you're lucky, your van/camper will hold it's value, but in most cases it will always loose value like a car. Own a home but strive to be debt free so you can have the flexibility to job hop or live a mobile life part time.

I personally have watched you both for years, and feel quite close to you... I very much thank you for showing that blokes can live small, clean and responsibly. The love you show your dogs says a ton about your character. I too (in America) have vanned for 4 years. Met a girl, whom I adore. We went inside for winter, and will return in the spring. @Andrew Ditton. Your point about what if the caravan of a full timer is stolen? Full timers should all probably get a 2nd caravan, like a vintage that you design up, like you did, and can even be rented out, or have a home that you rent out, or stay with Mom (I'd have loved that, I love my Mom), and as a brick and mortar living person, it's great to have a caravan and vehicle, in case something happens to your home while you sort that out, as a plan B. I met a nice lady who got a 22' type C Dolphin motorhome because it fit exactly in a New York parking place, which she stayed in outside our building while she was getting new flooring installed in her condo. Yes plan B's are wonderful and great protection to have for everyone -- stuff happens!

Hi Andrew - I’ve spent the last year considering “what next” I’ve watched many, many KZbin videos like yours, particularly those where individuals or couples have decided to “do it” and take to the road (or water - love narrowboat vlogs)... I have recently decided to quite the rat race and given up the 2 hour plus (each way) commute into London and have decided to take my 25% tax free lump sum from my pension, pay off my mortgage and seek alternatives... I am therefore on the cusp and so your video couldn’t have come at a better time... Your advice is 100% on the money and has helped me refine my thinking... For your openness, honesty, from the heart Momentos. I’m in agreement, I say the best laid plans aren’t, and forget Plan B. Everything you mentioned is where I am right now as I am seriously becoming a nomad. I’m 33 weeks from retiring, I own my own house of course with the bank, and I thought of selling and I thought of renting and you’re making renting make so much more sense for me to do. I think traveling twice a month and spending 10 days somewhere in the west as I am in the Salt Lake area at some campsite or on BLM land Will be the answer for me. I’ve always had grandiose ideas, but now approaching 66 I’m realizing more quality than quantity. I hope to see you again sir, stay well

@@dorcaseatch4078 I've donated everything every time I move. Then I rebuild all the necessities. And at times I feel a bit off the normal path like travelling and seeing something unusual . I'm still lost in the world of material creation, consumption, marketing....Now I only get things that I use everyday and create as needs arrive. I feel much lighter and at peace. Excellent, sounds perfectly reasonable. For myself, I need a home base to return to and I “feel” that my dogs need that as well. Also, as much as I enjoy hitting the road and seeing new or favorite familiar places, almost everything takes a bit more time and effort in an RV/caravan, be that cooking or pooping and showering....

I’ve always been a traveller. Never staying at one job more than 2 years. Working as a freelance artist, I worked to travel. But i always had a home base. Either a house or an apartment. A few years ago i went on the greatest journey of my life when i donated a kidney to my brother. Transplant went well, and my brother was doing great. We talked excitedly about what we were going to do with the rest of our lives. My brother went back to school, and I was going to do vanlife. But when my brother passed away suddenly from a stroke, i fell into a long depression. Slowly coming out of it now. I still desire to travel. But since my brothers passing, I have craved a more permanent home base. Like you said in your video, stability. So instead of vanlife, I am thinking about building an off grid tiny home.

Yes, that was a really nice cup of tea! Your life is totally different from mine, but your reflections on life in general are one hundred percent valid for me too. The part of your vlog that I recognized the most was your thougths about "shelf life": Different parts of life have different qualities, and when one part of life comes to an end it's no big disaster. It is just a possibility to try something else! We are not supposed to be doing the same thing for our full lifetime. To end something, and then do something new (or different) isn't a loss, it's a "restart" - a new possibility! I don't know if I managed to explain myself, English isn't my language of choice, but i definitly did my best :-) Big thumbs up!

You were the first channel I subscribed to on youtube when i was considering a caravan/motorhome. My other option was a narrowboat, which is where I am as I type. I spent time on the road as a van and truck driver and I think that informed my view that nomadic life is not a bed of roses always. I move now between my boat often on a marina sometimes on the cut and my house and feel it is a good balance. I really admire your honesty and it is great to hear your enthusiasm for caravanning has returned now that there is less need to rush.

Hi Andrew, lovely to hear all your plans for the future as well as your reasons for moving on into a new phase. You are absolutely right, a lesson we often find hard to learn is that phases in our life come with a shelf life and when the shelf life is over, it is best to move on to new things. Sounds like being more settled is getting the creative juices flowing and we are going to see lots of interesting vlogs in the months to come. All the very best to you and Dougal xxx

Honesty and integrity 👍🏻 that’s why I love this channel. I love going away but, I couldn’t live in the van. It is tiring touring, especially in winter. Good luck Andrew and Dougal🥂🥂

You’ve been at it for a long time! Ya it makes sense to want to anchor down. I often wondered what plan B is for many van dwellers once their health failed or the vehicle died. Thank you for your balanced view. 🤍

Hello from Canada A great heartfelt video. I have very much appreciated all of your vids, especially the train ones, model and real. And, of course, all of your travels where you display your immense gifts as a tour guide and videographer. You have made new friends from around the world who eagerly accompanied you on your journey. All of us wish you every success and happiness in whatever endeavours you undertake. I look forward to going along on your next adventure. Fair winds, clear skies and never ending roads

Totally understand your reasons Andrew. I'd love to give living on the road a try, but circumstances (health issues etc.) don't allow it (I think my partner would hate it too), so it's been great to enjoy it through your channel over the past months. Look forward to seeing your future adventures once you're ready to set out on them. In the meantime, both of you keep well and enjoy the next stage of your life.

Hey Andrew. Many many thanks for all your videos. As an owner of an RV I have found your videos honest educative, informative as well as inspirational. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing journey with us and your legacy of outstanding videos for us all to relive memorable moments with you. You have helped so many people and similarly saved people from a lot of pitfalls too. Remember that even though you may not be doing full time living on the road anymore, among van dwellers you are still RV royalty. ;o) Looking forward to future videos. Take care and be safe.

Hi Andrew, I totally understand where you’re coming from. It was largely due to you and Mr Trudgian that my wife and I have enjoyed our caravan so much over the last 3 years. Although we have had it sited on at a different site in a different county and not traveled with it we have still enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately our pride and joy has been written off due to flooding, and now we’re both feeling it. Many thanks for taking us along on the ride. Richard.

Andrew this is one of my favourite channels and you come across almost as if you're justifying your decision to stop full time touring. You don't have to justify anything (if that's what you felt), it makes no difference whether you're a full time tourer or part time.. you speak with with a wealth of experience and knowledge, and that's all delivered with a huge helping of humour and humility, and of course Dougal. Look forward to many more vlogs in the future, no matter how frequent or infrequent they come. P.S. any chance of a review of the Wingamm campers in the future?

When you were setting the model railway up in the back of the van I thought something was up. I could never full time, I enjoy getting out on the road even on mammoth road trips but the comfort of a bricks and mortar home is too appealing. You can now start to build a model railway at home? Whatever happens, best wishes to you and Smiler! (Dougal).

What you are going through, I understand, bicycle touring will accelerate what you’re going through, imagine being on the road for 3 weeks and everything just gets out of hand . I had a meltdown and spent 6 days in a motel,I didn’t leave the room, ordered food from room service, and loathed the sight of my very expensive touring bicycle and kit . I finally got on my bike and rode home,so it was home again, home again, higgity jig. I’ve been on many bicycle and motorcycle tour’s and what I’ve taken from it is ,I’ve have had great and wonderful adventures . I still have adventures ahead of me, but I’m older and sorta physically wore out,but my past adventures make for great yarn spinning when spending time with friends, it starts with “ there was this one time” . Andrew these are our adventures and they make up who we are ,but having home and hearth to go to is good too. I’ve been watching your videos,I think since you started, keep up the good work,it’s just a new adventure

Didn't see that coming Andrew, quit an emotional vlog shedding light into the reality of life on the road, excellent words of wisdom. The good news for us you're continuing to make content. Another bonus your model railway now has the opportunity to have it's own permanent space - new vlog theme(?) could attract a whole new subscriber base. Wishing you and Dougal all the very best in your new home, hope we get a small tour at some point. Is there space to park two caravans and is it somewhere in the north.....😊

Mr. Ditton, your camping/touring vehicle videos are without doubt the most practical, comprehensive, and informative videos circulating social media. The filming quality is superb. The range of topics covers every aspect involved in wheel based camping. Being a seasoned motorbike traveler converted to a recent three year camper van enthusiast, I find your videos to be not only helpful, but entertaining as well. Your four-legged co-host adds the perfect touch. Thanks for taking the time and effort to deliver such a great product.

As an American living in the UK, I've loved watching your videos so far. Your series on the Outer Hebrides was extremely useful and helpful, not just in what to go see, but also the insight and in things to look out for on the way there (parking lot sign for the ferry in Ullapool as an example). It was a fantastic vacation, and not much that we didn't see on the Isle of Lewis and Harris. I eagerly look forward to more videos for ideas and more insight into what to go see and do while I am here. Totally agree that it's time to change things up when it no longer is fun (been there, done that). Change is good and needed sometimes, and only you can decide when to make that change for yourself. Take care of yourself, and see you on the road!
