Good, now go figure out how to dry those slabs, I don't have time for another day of milling and gluing.

Matt, Andrew, what about using your 'thin slabs' cut with Andrew's drawer blade- like the table you and your vac kiln friend displayed... wrap the super veneer around a GluLam "core"- that leaves the bench with the grain and looks of the higher valued wood- with an uber-stable core of GluLam (finger jointed fir?) You've already shown door ideas, table ideas, and proven you can dry the thinner 'slabs'.

Can’t wait to see this build that’s one heck of lotta maple. Have you ever considered putting retractable wheels on the legs so you can easily move the bench when needed? Another option is to get one of those three wheel casters that are sold at Home Depot for moving furniture. Keep up the good work!

You should sell those dogs with the walnut heads already on the threaded pipe and with the magnets. I'd buy a bunch for my bench build. Mostly because I'm lazy and that would save me from the time and work of having to make the 40 that I was planning on.

I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great kzbin.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

Probably needs a storage space under(second degree retrieval) and the extra weight for stability
@AndrewKleinWW
@AndrewKleinWW 4 жыл бұрын
I'lll probably leave the storage to Adam. As for weight, I had originally planned on filling the 4x4 steel legs of my bench with Sand. That hads about 100 lbs of weight, and drops the center of gravity. My bench ended up so heavy that it doesn't need it at all, but with the smaller version I'm making for Adam it might be needed.

Just viewed this video Andrew (July 1st, 2021). It is great. Question? My workbench top is 8'L X 30"W X 3" thick (Hard Rock maple 45 yrs old but looks new). I only have 5" overhang under the top to anchor the screw blocks. I realize I will have to drill holes in the frame; for the rest of the screw length and that is OK. So should I purchase the 20" or 24" Twin Turbo Vise; since the price is very close? At first I jumped on the 24" but looking and studying it, it may be better if I purchase the 20" vise: because I might run into problems with the 24". What ye say kind Sir? Hope you will see this Andrew and tell me what you think. Thank you.
@AndrewKleinWW
@AndrewKleinWW 3 жыл бұрын
With a 30” wide bench you could go with either the 20” or 24”, with the 24” vise it would require placing the dogs a bit close to the edge like I have on my bench. I don’t mind this but some folks like them in a bit more and if you think you fall into that group then I’d go with the 20”.
