Before you give up on a watch that you think was a mistake or that you've gotten tired of and sell it on for a big loss, try changing the band. It may transform the watch, and if it doesn't work, you probably can salvage the band for another watch. Btw, you're the best in the business Andrew, but you'll just ignore this comment.

Collecting is a journey, not only consumerism. Each customer I meet has a different reason for why to sell/trade and why to buy a new watch, some reasons are hilarious, some are tragic. Enjoy your watch and the memories attached to it as much as you can. We are not eternal and watches remind that to us daily. Buy a watch for what it means to you, never what it means for the others.

Andrew, your perspicuousness (is that a word?) never cease to amaze. IF you find yourself thumbing a lift having been pushed off the horology highway, you always have a budding career in stand up comedy ! Notwithstanding the humor in this video, the tips are spot one except for getting rid of a watch. Just keep it. It (any purchase) represents a point in history when a decision was made whatever that was. It may not appeal today, but your view will change when you look back at it 10 years from now.

Contents. Also spoilers, but you should watch the whole thing like I did: 1) 0:16 - don't show it to everyone (oops) 2) 1:57 - don't talk to her for the next three hours about your watch. 3) 3:44 - don't buy a watch you're not 1,000,000,000% sold on. Corollary: don't keep doubling down on it, just sell it. 4) 5:19 - don't screen your watch online (oops) for clout. 5) 7:07 - don't scour the internet for validating opinions re: the watch you already bought (commenter note: if you feel an itch for this, see #3 & consider selling) 6) 9:11 - don't buy beyond your means, you'll sweat it each time you look at it. Relatedly, see #3. 7) 10:55 - don't buy assuming you'll make money on it (or relatedly, assume it'll lose money the second you buy it) 8) 12:27 - don't worry about keeping the watch scratch-free. relatedly, if you know you'll worry about it, see #3 and #6. 9) 14:00 - don't assume this watch will be your forever watch, you'll get bored of it eventually and that's okay. 10) 15:25 - don't treat it as more than just a watch. It's just a watch. It just tells the time. (but it does help you connect with other people who also like watches)

I’ve seen so many times in the past that people who have a water resistant watch like 100m or more avoid water, I can tell you this is because you’re avoiding water and washing your watch regularly you’re risking not only to potentially making your watch no longer water resistant but also corrosion and damage to you watch case Sweat and dust and other foreign elements are the worst enemy for your watch, just like computers hate the dust and heat so does your watch hate your sweat and such… Just a friendly advice, wash you water resistant watch often in warm water and some hand detergent, I do it everyday and my watch is sparkling clean and water tight…

Watches are very highly personal items hence should definitely be kept under wraps and not be shared with others unless these others are well known trustworthy individuals. Along the same lines I buy watches which impress and or please me individually never to seek others approvals or impress anyone anyway. They would do different spending their money, they have different aspirations and tastes in everything which is great. I have yet to sell a watch away, I don’t think I’ll ever do it though.

I had a Tissot Seastar for 49 years, I wore that watch every day, in the shower, swimming in pools, and even swimming a lot in the Pacific Ocean, it never had any signs of rust outside or inside, no moisture ever got into it, and it wasn't even a screw down crown. It did fatally fail 3 years ago when the rotor bearings fried and it couldn't be repaired, my jeweler told me to send it to Tissot which I did, but they could not fix it either, so they offered me an exchange, my watch for a new PR100 Powermatic 80 and $220 which would have been the cost of the repair, I took the deal.

The tip don't read comments after buying the watch I usually ignore. But I like to be out of mainstream. So much that after I got my review from Spotify my songs are to mainstream I made the new year resolution not listening to artist with more then 5 figures accesses. Negativ comments proof I'm not mainstream, positive prove I'm right.

I think one of the regrets i've had was to get a watch because I was offered one, and I knew was pretty coveted. I'd worry if I didn't take it. At the end, I realised it wasn't a good fit, and I'd be stuck "holding the bag" because I didn't want to sell the watch and enrage the brand.
