I think the aspect that you were trying to express with the term "tasty" is what we in Trinidad and Tobago call "sweetness" when playing steel drums. It's about the way the music and/or performance makes us feel, rather than measurable things like technical proficiency or speed. And , frankly, I think it is what makes a piece of music or a performance great to listen to over and over again, or to sing along with, or dance to.

Your silence as you gathered your emotions and thoughts back together said as much as your review of the experience afterwards. You know those weightlifters that put an extra 60 Kilos on the bar after everyone else can't handle another Gramm? He's the drumming version of that. To do the near impossible, to raise the bar to unbelievable heights, to teach the professors something new. That is what pushes mankind to excell. That is what the 3,5 million followers come for. To see an Olympian at work.

Hey Andrew! A great reaction to El Estepario Siberiano's take on A=Ha's Take On Me! Well done! Your analysis at the end of the video was spot on in my opinion. He serviced the song and wasn't all "Hey! Look at me!".

it's like he's unlocked the cheat codes for drumming, he's just light years ahead of everyone else. Perhaps Larnell or Grayson could give him some competition but not much...

I remember when A-Ha released the video for “Take On Me”, & it was very well received w/the cartoonist drawing of the band members performing & telling the story of his love. AWESOME!

i saw the original vid when it came out, loved it-(it's one of my fav songs🥰) (and yes im a metalhead and yes i still love a-ha). Anyway, is it flashy and a bit of showmanship? yes. of course. But its also still musical and fun. You can tell he really appreciates the original song and he's having a blast. Love El Estepario ❤ (ps, if you havent checked out his previous band its great-its not english but the music comes thru)

Love the shirt brother! Love El Estepario too, man he is a total beast on the drums! Beautiful concepts in that man's head and he has zero problems taking those ideas from his head and putting them into our heads. Such a gift to us all. What a great guy!

Totally agree I've already seen the video of him playing this prob a dozen time's. He is a beast, his reaction video's are priceless, his band the Cost is awesome and he helped me learn Spanish b4 he started doing his video's in English so fuck yes sir! Plus he seems like a legit good, kind hearted person who wants to spread love and positivity (I'm not a dirty hippy) but the way he's anti negativity on his channel. He's like the total package. He kick's ass and then some.

You'd think you'd get used to this level of skill and yet every song he drums up is mind-blowing. This is not at all a knock with such an enjoyable performance but was a pretty aggressive take for a relatively mellow tune. First-time visitor to Mr. Rooney's channel- he's a natural-born critiqueologist.

Depends on how you define better, but I couldn't imagine any or my favourite songs sounding better with him at the drums... Sure he's a skilled drummer, but it is always overplaying. Too much. Like a guitar player doing a solo for the entire song.

You hit on it with the idea of it sounding kind of respectful towards the original. This feels like a track he really loves, because other than the 2 parts where all the hounds of hell were released on his kit, the other adds/him having fun really amplified and accentuated the original instead of running it over. The brief high-speed phrase on the high hat, and for me in particular, that bass triplet that sounds like Steve Harris riding out on the E string, added to the song right down in line with the mix. With enough natural talent, dedication, and practice someone can play insanely technical compositions or remixes of things. The next level of flex he's taking it to her is to take all that and work it into something in a way that aounds coherent rather than sounding like someone publicly auditioning to be in a better band.

El Estepario's drumming is a combination of athletics, mathematics, rudiments, and Zen. I weep tears of joy watching his drumming. Like it is just not humanly possible. I would compare it to a person being blind for 50 years and then being given sight in full color. And he just says "practice". Not quite my friend. There's some divine intervention going on in there. a spiritial gift has found it's fertile destination. horaaah! And he's young.
