A friend just told me that the Shell RFID card they give you enables free charging at any Shell partner: that includes IONITY! Given how expensive IONITY is, that's actually a great deal for anyone who needs to do a lot of public charging.

I needed to hire a car for 10 days, in the end I went with onto as I get a car for a month at about the same cost as it is to hire one and I get to try an EV at the same time.

Great video Andrew. Have to say, I've had a Zoe ZE40 from Onto since July 2019 and the app has worked pretty much perfectly the whole time (I have no key). Just a couple glitches which just required me to log out of and back into the app to sort. Other than that, just perfect and excellent car! +++++

Have you had the same car the entire time? If so, has the monthly cost gone down or are you paying the same monthly charge for a 2 year old car?
@cbromley5623 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, at these prices, car ownership will be with us for some time. The secondhand Leaf seems more appealing.
@matpat26363 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a Zoe coming. Was thinking about buying one, but thought I’d see if I get on with it for a month or two first. It’s not exactly cheap, but a good way of seeing if a car fits in with your lifestyle, and better than committing to a car for a number of years that you might not like.

Looking at the examples given on the Onto site their selling point, contract length aside, appears to be a saving of roughly £100/month compared to a lease. That, however, doesn't include the £99 delivery/collection fees, but I suppose "save £1.00 a month by choosing us" isn't much of a strapline...

2022 Calculations: Peugeot e-2008 GT Just Add Fuel: £0 Deposit - 36 Payments of £730.66 £10 per charge x 4 = £40 per month Tyres £320 / 12 = £26 per month Total: £796.66 Onto Peugeot e-2008 GT: Base cost £589 Reduce Excess £20 Add driver £9.99 Total: £618.99 Saves £177.67 per month, so over 36 months that's a total savings of £6396.12. Even if you minus £200 for collection and delivery it's still over £6k savings over 3 years. Obviously that would mean sticking to the same car for 3 years. Although you could switch each year and still save a lot of money.

Hi Andrew - we've got a Zoe with them at the moment and can confirm that you do get an Instavolt card now, which has been great. Our delivery driver told me they were issuing keys now due to problems in underground car parks, etc. - which does make some sense. So far we have found them great, and as for the cost, how many ICE car rental firms pay for your fuel? - I think that makes up for quite a lot over a month (as long as you drive more than 140 miles...

Using Onto with a Hyundai Kona at the moment. They have been great. One issue for us is the App has never synced with the car at all. They are sending someone to check the link in the car (presumably some connection not working purely to do with the Onto kit). They were good about that though - asking for a convenient day for us when they could come.
@MartinReedWorded3 жыл бұрын
We’ve got a Kona with them at the moment too. The app syncs but there’s always a lag of several hours. Having said that, if you haven’t already it’s worth installing the Hyundai Bluelink app. You can use it for unlocking, pre-heating, checking mileage, setting charging schedules, checking charging levels while you’re away from the car, etc, so it’s a bit more functional than the generic Onto app.
@kiteless13 жыл бұрын
When I last used Zipcar (which was a while ago) they had a RFID reader fitted at the bottom of the windscreen that you used to unlock, then you got the keys out of the glovebox. I’d trust that over an app!

Got an e208 on Thursday (used your referral code!) only got BP and Shell cards. Tried to use a shell charger and couldn't get a charge so had to pay at an instavolt charger (which worked like a dream). App has been mostly fine which is good as I didn't get a key.
@MrEV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for using the code! You should have had both an Instavolt card and a physical key though. Worth asking them about that.

I got an E-208 as well, (and used Andrew’s referral!) should have been delivered Friday, eventually arrived Monday with Key, and InstaVolt, Shell & BPpulse RFID cards. The app won’t open the doors, they did send an e.mail to say it wouldn’t work. The app also doesn’t show the charge percentage, just miles remaining. I installed the My Peugeot app because that’s supposed to show charge percentage, but the app thinks the car is petrol!

Eye watering £1000 for a model 3 too. The fees to buy one are £600 a month for 5 years via the tesla loan.
@tubularG3 жыл бұрын
@@Lewis_Standing Yes, exactly. A 5 year commitment to a £600 monthly payment Vs a minimum of 1 month at £1,000. What if you don't need a car that long? What if you don't like it? What if you want something different for different purposes?
@britguy29993 жыл бұрын
Also how much of that £600 (if any of it) includes servicing, insurance and other running costs. Onto does feel pricey still but having all costs rolled into one payment is quite handy for a brand new car and if you prefer the flexibility around ownership.

Hello Andrew can you please provide me with a referral code that actually works Is the code long enough p.s. thank you for your video's .... I Wanted to rent a Nissan leaf for a month then I was going to try some other cars out

I’m sorry the code isn’t working - others have told me the same. Apparently it’s because I don’t have an active subscription with them, but that’s not mentioned in their terms and conditions. It’s frustrating - I’m discussing with them.

£628 / 144 = £4.36 a mile plus charging costs i think a taxi would have been cheaper. and you would have saved the cleaning the car i would not spend over 600 pound just to lease a car if you lease for 12 month that would be over £6000 pound a year
@hnguk2 жыл бұрын
Based on my 2022 calculations comparing Peugeot Just Add Fuel and Onto. Onto is cheaper per month (by about £177 a month!) If you kept the car with Onto the same period you would with Just Add Fuel you would save over £6000. So overall you do save money, you equally get the flexibility to change if you want. Even if you changed once a year you'd likely still save £4000 minimum (as long as not going for a Tesla or Audi 😅) See my calculations below: Peugeot e-2008 GT Just Add Fuel: £0 Deposit - 36 Payments of £730.66 £10 per charge x 4 = £40 per month Tyres £320 / 12 = £26 per month Total: £796.66 Onto Peugeot e-2008 GT: Base cost £589 Reduce Excess £20 Add driver £9.99 Total: £618.99
@onlineo22633 жыл бұрын
So you would have been spending an extra £100pm to try a new car every month? Onto is great in theory... But in practice for most people it is just too expensive. On top of that they have very little availablility of different cars, and an id3 is probably the largest car under £1000 pm, which is useless for mid to large families.

The problem is people write negative reviews when they have a negative experience. People only write positive reviews if they are encouraged. For a company with so many cars on hire the negative reviews only make a small portion of the customer base.

Have been with onto for 2 years now. Me an my partner have a car each and have always been looked after. Great choice of cars. She has the 500e and I have the e208 Gt. I highly recommend even just to try them for a month and see what you think. They are always trying to improve. Use code 46880 for £100 off your first month.
