God bless Andy Anderson! Watching Andy skate is like watching waves crash or fire burn it’s something biblical. His skating seems so natural and flows so effortlessly. His balance and mixture of style and tricks is very creative. It’s obvious that he skates with passion and great love for everything he does. Hope to skate with Andy someday.

Pretty Rad that Andy moves down to Venice Beach and is so emerged in the scene. He's becoming pretty much a regular on nine club, also the area artist and surfers, all just taking him in- good shit Seems like the perfect place for an old Vancouver B.C. retread, your a perfect addition to the Venice Beach vibe. That's not to mention your career appears to be full steam ahead in several differnt areas that you've ventured into. I personally can't wait to see where this goes for Andy between the art projects and the skateboarding, something to look foward to. - Keep Creating-

Street skating is about focusing on the parts of a trick where the momentum and direction changes. Freestyle is about the "in-betweens" of the momentum/direction changes, and thinking ahead to the next trick, so you can smoothly transition from one trick to the next without stopping. Just watch the Rodney Mullen part on here and you'll see that it's one smooth set of movements and tricks. Intuitives will gravitate towards Freestyle, because intuition is about thinking ahead. Freestyle will help strengthen any individuals intuition, when it comes to skating, because it's about thinking ahead. I think skate schools should teach Freestyle first, so the students can learn board control, balance, and flow; which flow involves thinking ahead. Then at a certain point the students can move into another style of skating. That is the "actual" way skating progressed, and the individuals who start there first "always" have a major set of advantages compared to the individuals who just start with another style. Even if you've skated for a while I'd highly recommend learning Freestyle for a period, and go back to whatever style you usually skate later. You won't regret it! It will help you hone the most basic, but potent, aspects of skating; which are board control, balance, and flow. You'll wind up being exponentially better when you go to or back to another style of skating. It's so worth it if you put the time in. Like with Science, going back to "first principles" (basics) helps tremendously. This is true with all sports too. Covering the most basic aspects from time to time really affects your understanding and progress for the better. Very noticeably too!

Awesome comment, I just wrote something vaguely similar before I read this (although yours was ahead of mine by several hours). Unfortunately the improvisation/intuition aspects of skating are still the most dormant and forgotten facets of old skool skateboarding. Even in certain circles of freestyle today... there is more emphasis on parroting "tricks" rather than dancing intuitively, and improvising or creating new tricks/movements. Similar to street-there's nothing wrong with doing the same tricks over and over *(and over)* but then style and 'scale' become the artform i.e. we've all seen somebody 50/50 a huge handrail a trillion times by now. It's impressive but it's not (r)evolutionary, and it's most impressive when somebody does it with a unique style or goes 'bigger' somehow than before. It took me forever to discover freestyle because street skaters thought it was best left buried in time, like neon knee pads. As soon as I went "back to basis" with my balance and flow...every aspect of my skating grew exponentially. I no longer even care if I "land" tricks during a session, as long as I am evolving and enjoying the artform. That part isn't for everybody; but learning balance, gravity, and flow is.

Anybody else who just like me thinks the ollie after the 50/50 ff impossible is the most impressive? it's floaty as fuk! Joy that defies gravity, and he's just flying over that curb section! ♡♡♡

I like his answer about which he would pick if he could only choose one: street/freestyle/transition... Have you ever noticed how abstract these terms are? Freestyle is literally free*style, street is literally in the streets, and transition is literally going from one state of flow to another. Why do we place so many divisions between them mentally, other than the fact that humans like to compart*mentalize?

@@MikeArpeggio345 I'm a little skeptical how he says george likes to push innovation and that its product>sales but if andy gets a freestyle board first that shows its more about sales>product. Because thats the reason the others don't have a pro FS board and they've been on the team longer. Unless they're content with what they have.
@MikeArpeggio3452 жыл бұрын
@@_Maxten I'm sure they call all work together to make a board for all 3. Or give them their boards first while andy slings his new board for a bit. I can see why he would give andy a fs board first though since his board is one of the highest selling boards ever.
